patched already. Well worth it to continue using IE. I keep trying to get used to Firefox and I just can't do it.

I tried FireFox today and uninstalled it after an half hour. I couldn't take it anymore.

you must be kidding ?

IIRC they moved to a monthly schedule so this could be their monthly release

Windows always needs patching because MS doesn't want to do the job right.

Now a special patch for windowsupdate?

Bah! I should switch to linux. :p

hehe I have to patch my linux system at least once a month for security vulnerabilities in various application. Linux is just as bad (or good depending on how you view things) as Windows

FYI, Microsoft doesn't release patches weekly and it doesn't release them on wednesdays.

tried it too, didnt uninstall, but the lack of plugins and weird downloading options makes me prefer ie if it wasn't for the lack of security.

HAHAHAHA! LMAO! Cough, hack, wheeze...

The thing that really gets me is the sheer staggering number of critical updates that have been released for IE over the years. How many remote root exploits can a web browser possibly have?

In the past year, the Redmond, Wash.-based company quietly changed its procedure for releasing security bulletins and software patches for security vulnerabilities in its products, creating a carefully orchestrated process that predictably releases bulletins and patches to the public on Wednesdays, according to senior Microsoft security personnel.

Give Mozilla 1.7 a try instead.

That's weird....I don't recall having automatic updates turned on b/c the only update I see that Windows Update is throwing in my face is SP2 RC2. (I'm still using RC1 I think) I'll just wait till the final release of SP2 comes out in a month.

That article is outdated. The new schedule has been 2nd tuesday of each month, and it's been in place for months, though I can't recall for how long. You'll notice that these security updates were released on July 13th, which was Tuesday. It's not because MS couldn't wait another day.

So use Firefox. I do. They key issue is that they fix the issues. And last I checked, NO ONE makes a better desktop OS than MS, though many have tried.

And MS' customer service is proven awesome. Their hardware RMA process (for example) is the absolutely best.

Customer service is a completely seperate entity from the development/programming aspect of the company.

Is your sus server slower than windowsupdate.com? If so that kind of defeats the pipose.com

^ lol pipose.com... I was typing in 2 windows at once, go figure. Supposed to be purpose.

I tried to switch from MyIE2 to Firefox right after 0.91 came out. I used Firefox at home and work for a solid week and just couldn't get used to it. I'm back to MyIE2/Maxthon. Good luck! :)

Is there a way to permanently bypass a "critical" update? It's been telling me to install a new nVidia driver for 6 months now even though I know I have the newest version.
