40X Cendyne CD-RW Staples 19.94 A/R A/C

$10.00 New $10 off $50 (See FW and search)

Search turns up a (dubious) in store onlycoupon scan. I couldn't find anything for online purchase.

I didn't say dubious..................................................I typed it

I was too, puzzled where to find the $10 off $50. Go to FW, and search in the forum. Just search for staples, and it should be the first post you see (I saw it as first post). Going to get my friend in this deal. Was trying to find a $10 off $50 over the weekend. Now it shows up. Thanks. =)

CenDyne Lightning III 40/12/48 CD-RW
got a good REVIEW

quote:
One thing that might hold back the Lightning III is its price. Currently the Lightning III is going for about $126 on Pricegrabber. A retail Lite-On LTR-40125S, on the other hand, goes for about $25 less. Which one is for you? If you need the better manual and tech support, the extra $25 might be well spent. However, if you want to save a few bucks the Lite-On might be for you. As usual, that decision is up to you.

I do need to remind you that CenDyne does not make the drives in their kits. They are using Lite-On's LTR-40125S right now and could switch to another manufacturer at anytime in the future.

Highs:

Features some of the fastest writing speeds available (with ZS0A firmware).
Very good data transfer speeds with all types of media. Can read pressed and CD-R data discs at 48x and CD-RW discs at 40x.
Rewrites at 12x.
Excellent DAE speeds. One of the fastest drives available.
Low seek times.
Features Lite-On's Smart-Burn and Smart-X technologies.
Very good media compatibility. Can write at 40x with a large selection of media.
Supports UDMA 33.
Has a large selection of writing speeds between 40x and 4x.
Includes Ahead Software's Nero Burning Rom 5.5.

Lows:
Fairly loud when reading and writing CD's.
Only a 2MB buffer.
The drive created a lot of errors when extracting audio from scratched and dirty CD's.
The drive does not support the Mt. Rainier format (yet).

I just bought two of these at a local Staples (Sturbridge, MA), and neither were produced by Lite-On. Rather, each had a label detailing Cendyne as the manufacturer, with a model number of CW 4001.

They're going back, as both failed copying CDs from a Toshiba 40x CD drive.

uh...wassa Cendyne 32x12x40 CDRw if itsa CW-3201 in the box its not a Liteon its an Optorite..also there are other examples..

Avoid the Optorite burner if possible. Lite-on burner should say "LTR-40125S" on the box. Also, the Lite-on drive (40125S) can be upgraded to a 40125W for Mt. Rainier support and if you want, to a 48X (48125W). Either can be done with a fairly simple firmware upgrade. Firmware located on Lite-on's website (liteonit.com).

😀

Get it on line and if it is NOT a Lite-on, go to the store (B&M) and exchange it for one with "LTR-40125S" on the box

😀
