I still don't understand why I'd have to pay $2000 for a PC that runs the latest games at satisfactory resolution/detail, when a $400 Xbox 360 runs games that look better, and run much smoother. I'll never understand that I guess. Anyone seen those boxing games on the 360? No one's PC could run those games, they are much too beautiful :) - And those games are like a year old at least. Even the newest PCs would choke on a game like that. So there's the big downside to PC gaming. I still like PC gaming, but it costs an arm and a leg to be able to play the latest releases. My system probably can't run FEAR unless I turn all the settings way down, when there are jaggies everywhere you look. There are upsides and downsides to both PC and Console gaming of course, but console gaming is much cheaper.

I like the PC because the PC has games I like to play.
FPS, RTS, and MMO's ...
Currently, I'm really really digging Supreme Commander.
It is so fvcking awesome, very much reminds me of Total Annihilation: Core Contingency.
I also played around a bit with Vanguard (just to level 10 with 3 classes) ... and I see a LOT of similarities with wow, but overall, I do think it's a better game.
as far as FPS games go, I can't control the consoles. I am a mouse/keyboarder ... I became a "mouser" in the early days of Quake and have played best with the mouse/kb combo ever since then.
I don't care how "cool" a game looks if I can't stand the interface.

That said, I'm aware that the 360 exists, and I'm fully aware that it's much cheaper to buy a 360 and a bunch of games than to keep a computer up to date enough to have excellent looking graphics on a 1920x1200 display .... but I'm willing to spend more money to have the better experience.

I play my 360 for about a half hour every two weeks. I play on my PC every day.

I think that about sums it up.

Unfortunately you are right. PC gaming hardware is just way too expensive and for the amount of money you spend you don't get much out of it. Also the upgrade cycles are horrible, I'm stuck in a position that if I want to upgrade my computer I have to buy a new processor, a new motherboard, and new RAM. Needless to say I'm screwed for a while.

As far as the patches go I agree. Especially RTS and RPG games, they come out so half assed it is disgusting. Perfect examples are things like Neverwinter Nights II.

Another great example of absolutely horribly programing is BF2... new patches fixes something, breaks something new, next patch fixes the new error and just adds another.

Pretty much my opinion too. And FPS and RTS are all I play anyway, so I stick with my PC.

i used to prefer pc over consoles. but i'm sick of upgrading my pc every year or two.

i'd rather spend money on games instead of the gaming hardware.

I prefer Wii for gaming right now. I don't really upgrade my PC nor play on it much any more, and the last game I played on the PC was Half-Life 2 (Starcraft before that, I play Counter-strike 1.6 sometimes still). I like the 360 but I'm already bored of the games (I only liked Gears of War & Rainbow Six: Vegas), so I don't even turn the 360 on any more... waiting for that next killer app (maybe Halo 3). Right now on the Wii, I'm playing Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Zelda... which I'm enjoying very much right now. I guess I would say the PC would be still the choice for me, I prefer using a mouse/keyboard & to this day I'm still not bored of Counter-Strike nor Starcraft (can't say that about 360 games).

PC is still better. Because FPS games are only good on the PC. Can't play them with those stupid joystick pad things on a console.

Well I thought the same way until Halo came out. Took some time to get used to but it works, althought I prefer keyboard/mouse combo. To this day I can't aim nearly as well with joystick pad.

Don't the FPS's on the consoles use aim help when using the joystick?

I can't use anything but a keyboard/mouse combo.

before getting one i would have agreed with you 100%, but you can get used to the weird combination. i get smoother every day, and i am not putting anything in like 5-6hrs/day, maybe at most 1hr day or so (the nice this is that 1hr of gaming takes 1 hr, not twice that when trying to find a good server and all that with the pc setup). i think i have an advantage using the controller as i have used a "ball" mouse for years, the type that goes under the thumb, so the 360 controller isn't near as bad as i thought it would be.

i will have to check on aim help, i have heard about it but not sure if it is on on my 360.

I ditched my PC gaming rig and use a laptop now. I game solely on my Xbox 360. Sitting in the living room playing my Xbox 360 with my roommates cannot be matched by a PC. Fight Night Round 3 or some Halo 2 action with tons of friends over is simply great.

I see no reason to go back to PC gaming considering my current library of 360 games:

Test Drive Unlimited
Gears of War
Saints Row
Rainbow Six Vegas
Project Gotham Racing 3
Battlefield 2: MC
Contra (yeah baby!)
Worms HD (yeah baby!!!!! :p)
College Hoops 2K7

I'm going to pickup G.R.A.W. 2 later on today :D

No, the 360 is losing. The main attraction of xbox is the online gaming which is really good. I prefer a PC in almost every other regard.

How is that the main attraction?

What about simply putting in a disc and not having to configure anything?
How about not having to install a game or configure graphics settings?
How about being able to sit down on a couch with a pal and play a game together or up to 3 other friends in split-screen mode.
How about not having to worry about upgrading your machine to play the latest games?

It's much harder to play with friends on a PC but my friends house had a setup where people would bring their rigs (10 computers on LAN in one large space). That was the most fun I had 5v5 in counter-strike or 4v4 in Starcraft & losing team having to buy the winning team beer, food, and other things. Although it's cumbersome to bring a rig over, that was the most I had playing video games.

Putting in a disc is more work than double clicking an icon.

Installing a game? I'm lazy but not THAT lazy, and therefore that has no bearing on whether I prefer PC or the 360.

I can hook up my computer to both my 32" HDTV LCD monitor and my 61" DLP TV with minimal effort. I rarely play split screen games and when I do, it's on the Wii. The 360 has few split screen games that appeal to me as far as I know.

How about not having to worry about purchasing a brand new console every 3 years?

i highly doubt the sales figures for pc games touch those of the 360. gears of war sold 3 million right?

in theory. but because of windows reinstalls most my old games are never reinstalled, because its too much trouble and i don't feel like wasting harddrive space for stuff i'd rarely play. let alone the trouble of patching and reconfiguring all those games, so they sit on the shelf:p never mind the fact that most games still require the disc for play, unless you can find a nocd patch of course, if it keeps up with the game patching.

In terms of releases and plain affordable fun, 360 wins though I don't have one. Maybe it's the million dollar adds telling me that I should play Lost Planet, Gears of War and other stuff, but there actually seems to be quality stuff coming out on a regular basis.

On the PC, there's been a huge draught the past few months, and this isn't rare as I find only 1 or 2 releases to be excited about a year. I probably spend more time looking for something new than playng.
