Mine came with the reference number on the box already. All I had to do was put the packing label on the box and put my 360 (minus the hard drive) in the box.

I had heard about this whole "reference number" thing before mine RROD'ed (when my first one did in 06 I don't remember a reference number at all).

But sinc eI did mine all online, I didn't get told a reference # ever. But I did notice when I got my box, there was a sticker that said "reference number" or something like that on the side, so I'm assuming it was that.

Cool thanks. The first time I sent one back there wasn't any reference # on the side instructions. Just on tape one to the system. I assumed the rep was just saying a bunch of stuff.

I couldn't do it online. The register your xbox function is totally broken. It refuses to accept any new system I try to register. Their KB about it sucks too. the official forum has a few threads about it.

But out it went today. Fingers crossed for an HDMI one in return.
 
I'll add my 2c to this. My 360 died the day Halo 3 was released. I just got it back in on Tuesday. My gf tells me she signed for it, so I'm excited for work to end so I can finally play Halo. About an hour into Halo, it freezes again, and BAM RROD! I have no luck.

My replacement 360 I just got back has a manufacturer date from the middle of Sept. 2007. Anyone know if they're just slapping new serial numbers on old systems or if these things are new?

No idea. Mine is dated 09/07 also and I received it back last week.

The one I got back recently has a 9/24 manufacturer date. I believe they are new.

There were a couple of people over at the TeamXbox forums that reported getting HDMI 360s back after sending in Premiums. Seems to be the exception to the rule at this point though.

My 360 hit MS on Tuesday the 23rd.

THey shipped it back to me the 25th. It will arrive Tuesday.

The problem is my 360 was tampered with prior to me sending it. The serial # is the same as when I sent it in to them. I'm thinking they didn't fix crap and I'm going to get my busted 360 back.

I'll let you all know tuesday heh.

well i know about 5 people (personally, not online friends) who sent em in w/the sticker messed up and got em fixed. Most of em had tried to fix em on their own after theirs broke and before MS extended their warranty, but some of those were modded.

so who knows heh.

Lemme know how it goes. I had to crack mine open and replace the laser. Needless to say, I am dreading the day the reaper comes for my 360.

I sent in an unopened, untouched xbox, they sent one right back with the same serial number, ID and date made. only difference was that it looked like they "printed" the info again on a newer case. the font sizes are totally different than what I found on the 2nd xbox. granted this was before the new 3 year RROD thing.

hmm seeing as how yours came on the 23rd and went out the 25th. I'm gonna give them a call right now to see. Mine came on 24th. Hopefully they got it out the 26th. Cmon HDMI!

so when exactly did yours get there, and when did it ship out? my tracking # of my box going to them said it arrived on the 23rd, then the tracking # they gave me back said it shipped out at 7am on the 25th.

They seem to be pumping these out so I wouldnt worry. I sent mine in last week (never been opend or fixed before), it got there Wed the 24th and they shipped it back to me Friday the 26th. It's due here early next week. I was shocked, to say the least, how fast it went.

I'm sorry I should've clarified. I have two xboxes. I had sent one in previously couple of months before they annouced the 3 year warranty for RROD. When it came back the first thing I checked was the serial numbers/info with the photos I took before I sent it out. It was completely identical except as I noted it earlier the font sizes were significantly larger. they received it, processed it next day, shipped out the day after that.

My 2nd xbox which I just sent in and they received on the 24th, looks to be going through the same process, received, processed next day, shipped out day after that. I had to call this time to ask about my status. 1st repair I was emailed through the process. when they checked it in, and when they shipped it out. The rep on the phone said they sent at "replacement" not sure if that'll be a completely new one or not, last time I got exact email. But I'm hoping its a new oen with HDMI.

So anyhow. MS got system on 10/24. They shipped me back one on 10/26. UPS tracking thoough says 10/27. But UPS tracking is screwy. I have numerous items in the past where it get delivered already then later updates as being "out for delivery"
 
I bought an elite last week. 3 days later, ring of death. WTF. THIS MUST BE THE SH*T*EST product ever. I returned it to best buy and bought the PS3 60gig.

 
If I get intermittent RROD (ie. sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt), should I still turn it in? Have any of you that have sent in a non-HDMI 360 gotten back a HDMI 360? I'm not cheap, I'm just asking...And if I send it in sometime next week, when should I get it back by?
