Well the local Target had the old gray box elites, and wal-mart had the same ones but they were the bundles with kung fu panda and lego indiana jones.

probably going to wait and try to get one of the newer ones.

To be honest...a little disappointing. They need to come out with a smaller form factor with built in wireless...

They won't be able to move to a smaller form factor until they move to the 45nm possibly unified chips. Which won't be until next year.

took out the hdmi cable and dropped the price by $100, who knew those bastards had a deal with monster.

My advice? Go buy an old-style Elite _today_ if you want to buy one and can find one. Seriously, Microsoft better have some more price cuts, especially on accessories, coming down the line.

I wonder if you'll be able to find any of the Halo 3 / Fable II Elite bundles for $299.99 anywhere. That would be a pretty sweet deal if you don't already have those games or a 360 at all.

I went looking for that exactly today. Went to 2 Best Buys and a Target, no luck. The employee at Best Buy said they sold all those when they first opened this morning.

Amazon has/had them. Only the Kung Fu Panda/LEGO Indiana Jones bundle is still in stock, but it comes with all the cables. The new Elite package (that doesn't come with anything and doesn't have HD cables) comes with an Amazon promotion of a free XBOX Live 12+1 code.

Sony always marketed their box as the high-def, blu-ray experience to be had, but didn't even include any cable that could enable it.

My PS3s both came with component cables, I still upgraded them to HDMI but they could do HD out of the box.

my target still has the fable 2/halo 3 bundle. Will come with a free controller tomorrow. I still won't be getting it because it is a Facon.

It did? I just checked my 60GB box (I'm a pack rat and keep everything) and the only thing I got was the composite cables. Maybe the newer system started getting component cables?

According to this, the slim only comes with composite also.

Yep, my 40GB and 80GB both came with component, still have the boxes and cables(have three of them now actually, had them for the PS2 also).

The 60GB launch PS3 only came with 1-plug composite AV, wired ethernet, and the too-short 6' USB cable (should have been 10' for playing while charging). SonyStyle.com's "What's in the box" for the 80GB lists only a single AV cable, ie composite. This has been a fanboy talking point from launch up until MS followed suit, so you might be mistaken.

By the way, I just noticed shopping at Amazon that the Elite no longer comes with an ethernet cable so they "gimped" that too.

I'm talking to a friend in London who says his new white-box Elite came with HDMI and ethernet cables. Is this just the US?

Could be, but at least the US elite is $300 not $500-600 🙂

FYI, US buyers: Amazon is including a digital code for Live Gold 12+1 with the $299 Elite. For the $249 Pro while it lasts you get your choice of Halo3, Halo Wars or Fable 2.

I'm fairly certain my 40 GB didn't come with component cables... the box doesn't actually say what type of cables it came with, it just says "AV Cable" but next to that it shows a drawing of composite AV cables. It also says that to display an HD picture it requires HD cables that are sold separately. Not sure why it would say that if it came with component cables.

Not sure what yours came with, my 40GB was purchased at Target and came with SpiderMan3 on BRD, I have three of the component cables here now- obviously they only go to a PS2/PS3 so they are fairly easy to spot(I had one for my PS2 for the small amount of games that ran in 480p and the one that ran in 1080i). My 80GB was also from Target, came with a $50 gift card in a promo deal they were running, that one didn't have any games or movies with it except the PS3 sample disc they include with all of them afaik. They never meant anything to me one way or the other, I had to buy HDMI cables for them both anyway, but I have the cables here.

I got the 40 GB that came with Spider-Man 3 (gave that piece of trash away after watching it once). Maybe my memory is incorrect... and maybe Sony made a mistake on the box... twice.

I googled and found this thread:
http://boardsus.playstation.co...=ps3&thread.id=2119628
which indicates that the 40 GB only included composite cables and includes a link to a Youtube video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEIqzVNVKhc ) showing the composite cables (with the comment "still no high-def included").

I only looked at this briefly, but it looks like an 80 GB with no bundled game, and no component cable: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...ynext_from=PL&index=12

Who knows, maybe yours did come with component cables... if so, I'm sure someone else also bought a PS3 that came with component cables and will chime in.

Bueller? Bueller?

I, too, am 99% sure he is misremembering his experience on this score. I've never ever heard of a PS3 40gb coming with component cables, either. But, hey, disprove me with a link, I'm not emotionally invested in this.

Perhaps it was a Target special?

Perhaps in five years we can still be here talking about important stuff - like you know, what cables your old game system included

My 40gb did NOT come with component cables.

Yep, I'm pretty sure there were no component cables included in any of the PS3 boxes. If they were it was by accident. Maybe people are confusing the AV cable with component.

Perhaps... that doesn't seem to be the case with BenSkywalker, because he specifically mentioned getting component cables for the PS2 to play 480p games. I'm genuinely curious about how he ended up with three sets of component cables, because as far as I can tell the PS3 has never come with component cables, and there doesn't seem to be any reason he would have bought three sets.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I didn't actually care about the lack of an HDMI cable - I preferred to buy my own. The removal of the "analog/TOSLINK with HDMI" adapter sucks, though. You can buy an HDMI cable for cheap online, but that stupid adapter is rather more expensive for the people who need it. I'm also a little surprised that the 120gb HDD is still $150.

IMHO, the PS3 is a better value right now in purely hardware terms. Microsoft needs to get on the ball and ship a revised console with _at least_ built-in wireless, and hopefully a larger hard drive.

it's simple enough to get around that.

break the housing off the stock cable that comes with your xbox360. (think it's a component cable.)

plug in cable, optical cable into slot, and HDMI cable into open HDMI slot.

Easy to explain. When you're paid Sony viral marketer, you can sometimes mix up what you paid for and what they gave you for free.
