No way. After that 90 days the repair cost is $100.

I wouldn't buy a PS3 or wii with just a 90 day warranty either.

If you're trying to save money, there should be a bunch of closeout sales on the 60 GB Pro, Woot had them today for $230 but they've already sold out.

Yeah, I was lucky and was able to grab one off of Woot today for use as a Netflix box. :D

To the people trying to make this a commentary on Americans for accepting "mediocrity," you seem to be missing what a few others have said -- when you buy an Xbox and have 20 games and 4 controllers and then the box dies, it isn't feasible to give all of that up and run out and buy a PS3. You couldn't eBay all those games and controllers and get what you want for them, so you might as well take advantage of the warranty and get it fixed. Believe me, I was upset when mine croaked for the second time, but I had too much invested in games, controllers, franchises in those games, etc. and it would not have been feasible for me to give those up.

Exactly. Xbox failures won't hurt them this generation. However, if you think this experience won't matter when the next generation of consoles comes out, you're mistaken.

I will not be buying a launch system of any manufacturer, especially Microsoft even though I had a launch 360.

1 year ago I bought a new 360 and I haven't any issues with this. All of you who think that the 54.2% figure is too low are ridiculous. There is no way it is above 40%.

No poll is going to be 100% accurate. I think both numbers seem about right. Even low for the 360 if you consider lots of people had multiple 360s fail.

I just found it funny that he thinks, "There is no way it is above 40%", when his own experience puts it above 40%.

LOL, you're right Ackmed. Just based on his response, it seems like he bought 2 360, and 1 failed, so that puts him at 50%. My goodness! That's 4.2% below the survey average!!!!

My 360 failure wasn't a factory defect or anything. Somewhere along the line something had hit it and broken it (presumably before I got it). The case had a slight crack on the right side and the optical drive stuck out slightly. I'm guessing it was dropped (or maybe even used/returned) by someone else before I bought it. Not a failure that would relate to this article.

I still don't see the failure rate being above 40%.
