Update:

Bridge collapsed at 6:05 PM
4 dead, 60 others transported to area hospitals
All survivors rescued, recovery efforts continue
Cause undetermined, bridge recently passed inspections in 2005 and 2006
Construction work was in progress, but is being called superficial surface work, and not believed to be the cause.

One man described it as a 30 foot free fall. Had a school bus full of kids behind him.

that looks very horrible

Crazy. I used to take that bridge all the time when I went to the U.

I've never seen anything like that . . . at least in the cities here.

whew! my sister is ok. she lives almost across the street from the bridge and luckily was somewhere else. she rides her bike across that bridge every day 🙁

Yeah, we're having problems calling out right now. I don't know if land lines work well or not at the moment, but using a cell to call into the city isn't working.

well, I guess Verizon is working... my bf can't get through with Sprint service.

yeah, my phone gets all circuits are busy here too. Of all the times a bridge would go down, it went during rush hour...

News said just after 6pm, so not right in the middle of rush hour but still.

I've driven that bridge about a billion times. Crazy stuff.

Wow, terrible timing - Twins game at 7 PM and the bridge collapses with traffic bumper to bumper in both directions and as we speak serious thunderstorms are rolling into the area.
