But I feel absolutely no obligation to get out of the way in this case. You want to drive 100 MPH with an open road in front of you, go rent some time at a race track or something. At least that way you'll only kill yourself when you crash. Not some family of 4 as well.

It's really funny how people like you think that people "only" going 15-20 over the limit in the fast lane are being inconsiderate of other people and a yet at the same time you think everybody else should feel obligated to move out of your way.

You don't get it. GET OUT OF THE LEFT LANE!!!!! The left lane is for passing, not driving. If I come up behind you that means I am going to pass you. That means get out of the left lane. You're the kind of driver that causes accidents by backing up traffic.

Yeah, I don't get these people that think they can go 15-20 over but don't think anyone should be going faster than them.

You defy logic. Your passive aggressive stupidity makes things much less safe for the rest of us. The safest way to drive (and this has been born out by studies in the US and in other countries), is to always yield to faster traffic. The left lane is for passing. If someone comes up behind you going faster than you are, then you are required to move to allow them to pass. That law in all 50 states is for slower traffic to keep right. You are breaking the laws JUST as much as them by not yielding. Plus, speeding is speeding. 15-20 over is no different than them doing 30 over -- although they might have a higher fine or a stiffer penalty. There's no "moral" or actual difference, however.

I don't give a damn if you are doing 130 in the left lane. You are not the police. You move your ass out of the way so that they can go. How do you know they are not in an emergency situation? They could be headed to the hospital and don't have their emergency flashers on. They could be undercover police who are speeding to a scene and don't want to attract attention. Hell, they could be a pissed off garbageman, but you have no right to block them. You are breaking two laws. You've no legal or moral standing to contest what they are doing, and you should mind your own business.

People who block traffic in the left lane are the purest scourge of the earth. I wish you a painful death. You congest traffic and make America's roads less safe -- much more than speeders ever will.

You're breaking just as many laws as I am, asshole. So move it. Oh, and I never tailgate. I will, however, flash my lights if I am overtaking you at considerable speed. 50% of drivers instantly move, and I love them for it. 50% of you sit there with a glazed over stare as you continue to yap on your cellphone or eat a doughnut. Fvckers.

Rage Against The Machine - Testify
Here we go
9-5 is the blood for your sweat
Pay the landlord, he's taking your blood for the rent
Yo
The balance dead so a bullet's what I get
When my Mao-Say-Tung gets offensive like Tet
The whip snapped my back
My spine cracked
For tobacco
I'm the Marlboro man
Can I make London bridges fall
If they do me like Mumia Abu-Jamal
Nobody move
Nobody move
86 Philly pigs drive a whole city block
And I'm campin' like Hampton
Read the word of the innocent
Yet death row is locked
Capitol-i-ism
check the wrong rhythm
And so they say let Saigons be Saigons
But wait a Ho-Chi-minute

Waste the day 'cause the night brings a hearse
Make a move and plead the fifth,
Ya can't plead the first

Are you ready to testify?
Get ready to testify
Are you ready to testify?
Get ready to testify

The revolutionary aesthetic
Black leather, beret and powder blue
However meanacing this human form on the outside looks
Without revolutionary action
It's ever so translucent

I stand admist grandeous gestures
Postures and platforms of romanticism
Creating more noise than answers
Creating more noise than the sirens
That keep our children crouched in corners

I sit and watch us do the blind man's dance
And I can't stand the smell of false composure
So i take a Ho-Chi minute to meditate
And think
And then tune to the word of Jose Matin

Doing is the best way of saying
Doing is the best way of saying
Doing is the best way of saying
Doing is the best way of saying

i'm usually the one trying to get people out of my way...lol

but if someone does come up on me i usually get over asap because i know how it feels to have some asshat in front of you slowing you down...

but when i had my bike i would just go between people and if someone ran up on me i would just twist my wrist 😉

Go with the flow. If the middle lane is doing the speed limit and fast lane is doing 20 over. Either drive 20 over of the speed limit. I hate people that ignore this basic fact. They think, "im going 10 over i that should be fast enough." Well, guess what? Its not.

Do all you inconsiderate "left lane" drivers realize that the left lane is intended for PASSING?! Dont just hangout in that lane you dope. Unless you actually are driving faster than everyone else and "passing" the whole time.

I won't be driving in the leftmost lane unless I am passing continuously. Otherwise, I'm in and out again after I pass. And if the left lane is not for driving, then why is anybody at all coming up behind me unless it's some kind of emergency vehicle? Why can't I drive in the left lane but the guy coming up behind me wanting me to get out of his way can? Especially if I'm already driving fast enough to be continuously passing all the other cars that are in the right lanes?

If the left lane as you say is for passing only WHY IS ANYBODY DRIVING IN IT!? Why don't you apply the same thing you expect of others to yourself? I can tell you why, because you are a self-centered egomaniacal psychopathic sociopathic narcisistic fvckwad. (Well not you specifically so much as the proverbial "you" in general. And Mill).

And Mill: Sorry to disappoint you but I don't even own a cell phone. And I haven't eaten a doughnut in at least the past 6 months.

Right, but even if I am doin, that passing continuously the whole time, there will be some other guy who wants to go even faster. . .where does it end? Everybody on the highway is expected to get out of the left lane and leave it completely wide open for that one guy who wants to go pedal to the metal in the Ferrari?

Wow, overreact much Evan? How is driving in the left lane blocking if you are going fast enough to be passing all the cars to your right? Blocking YOU maybe, but not 99.9% of the rest of the people on the road. You fvcking sociopath.

texas doesn't seem to have a 'left lane for passing' rule. there are a couple of places on I-35 north of san antonio with signage for it. otherwise, everyone uses the left lane.
The correct proper lane discipline answer is that your speed must be flexible to the conditions around you. That means turn off the cruise control. If you're in the left lane and faster traffic behind you wants to pass, then speed up appropriately until you find a safe spot to merge over and let them pass.
with a cap of the speed limit, which is the maximum safe speed to travel under the best of conditions.

Actually, yes. Nobody's kicking you out of the left lane for good - just do what I do: I move along in the leftmost lane, usually faster than 99.8% of the people on the road. Eventually someone moving even faster comes up behind me, so I move over to let them pass, and then move back into the left lane.

This leaves me with two possibilities. I can continue at the speed I feel comfortable at and was already doing, or I can use that faster driver as a shield against the police by pulsing my speed up to catch them, then drop off, speed up, drop off... This way about half the time he's more likely to catch a cop's eye than I am. Haven't gotten a ticket in 6 years doing this.

No I'm not blocking traffic if I'm already going "fast enough" to be passing all the traffic on my right (which is the only reason I'd be actually driving in the left lane and not just momentarily passing). So YOU get to decide how fast is "fast enough?" What gives you that privilege?

It ends by you slowing down, moving your ass over, and then getting back in AFTER s/he passes you. Get it? This is basic driving knowledge.

Isn't that kind of a silly question for you to ask, considering you've decided you have the privilege of limiting everyone else's speed in the lane? So YOU get to decide how fast is "fast enough"?

No, the overall flow of traffic decides what is "fast enough." If you're frequently getting people moving up on your ass, you're going too slow and you're in the wrong lane.

Move, bitch.
Get out the way.
Get out the way, bitch, get out the way.

Oh, and the fact that I know how to yield to faster vehicles gives me the right to decide that.

But if I'm in the far left lane and driving there (which almost never happens with me but maybe like .5% of the time I am driving) then I am already going faster than the overall flow of traffic. Just because you want to go even faster than that doesn't put me at any obligation to yield. YOU alone don't make up the "overall flow of traffic" any more than I alone do. Of course now as you say, if I notice there is a long trail of cars riding my ass, I'm going to move right. But one guy getting all pissy because he can't open his penistang full throttle and have the entire road all to himself? Sorry, don't care. Keep a respectful distance from my rear bumper and flash your headlights once or twice and I'll 99% more than likely move and let you by. But not if you act like you think I have some obligation to get the hell out of your way. I am under no such obligation. Nor is anyone else to me. If I move in this circumstance it is simply out of courtesy.

Depends on the traffic in front of me. If its heavy, I drive a set distance from the person in front no matter the speed, so I'm not actually inconveniencing the driver by not moving. If OTOH there is no one in front of me, I'd speed up a bit and move over as soon as I see an open slot, then go back in the left lane.

The point, which you still don't seem to be getting, is that regardless of your speed compared to the other vehicles on the road, you do have an obligation to get the hell out of the way if a faster vehicle is approaching.

However, they are just as much in the wrong as they are probably driving in the left lane too. I have never seen the people who go 15+ MPH on the highway get over unless someone faster is behind them. You are just as wrong for driving in the left lane if no one is there as you are if someone is there. It's also ILLEGAL in most states to pass on the right, but 99% of people do it anyway.

I agree with you they should move over, but going faster doesn't 100% give you the right to the passing lane. If I am passing a Truck and you come up behind me you are going to have to wait 'til I'm done passing.

RIGHT! Thank you. . I have said it numerous times now in my prior posts. If I can't drive in the left lane, why is ANYBODY driving in that lane? Lets just say person 1 is the fastest car on the road in the leftmost lane. Is it really fair to expect that every single other person that person 1 comes up behind is obliged to move out of his way? That's effectively like saying "I do own the road and I really do think I should have this lane all to myself so I can drive as fast as I want." Well it doesn't work that way. Maybe they didn't teach people who are aggressive drivers the concept of sharing in kindergarten or something. The road is to be shared. By everybody. I'm not saying I won't move for some people, but I certainly feel no obligation to do so. As I already said, if I do move, it is because I am being considerate. Not because I must. It is when I feel that the guy behind me thinks it is my duty and obligation to move for him that I will likely make him sit there and suck exhaust. Play nice, and I'll play nice.

So in this magical fantasy world of yours, what colour is the sky? 😕

Even if we assume that you don't "have to move" - consider that there are some hugely inconsiderate douchenozzles out there in command of a few tons of steel and fibreglass. They won't think twice about causing a huge pileup, simply because "it'll never happen to them, they're too skilled." And if you don't get out of their way, you may very well be the lucky one they rear-end when they can't switch lanes fast enough, or sideswipe trying to get back in.

And again:

Slower Traffic Keep Right and Keep Right Except to Pass.

And again:

Ok if he couldn't switch lanes fast enough to avoid hitting me, what makes you think I'd be able to change lanes to get out of his way any faster?

And again: Slower is relative. You might be faster one minute until the next minute somebody even faster comes a long. Only now are you slower.
