is it a good stepping?

some people have been lucky and have gotten over 2.2 ghz out of that chip...

i have been unlucky and cannot break 2.0 ghz w/o upping the voltage past 1.95V

I smell Athlon XP 2100+ ;)

BTW, about to try to Prime either 177x13 or 180x13 to break the 2.3ghz barrier.

hehehe... it's on the way from newegg :)

Real overclockers install processors when its -50 out there, hailing iceballs the size of watermelons, and with missing appendages!
:|

;) Hope you get well soon, this way you can show them the true power of water cooling!!!

i have been overclocking since 300a days . has it been so long ago since then ? i will try to get the processor in as soon as i am able to. i will have to take the motherboard out in order to switch out processors.

hugs

Oh no...Jen deserted me and jumped on the bandwagon. :( I'm slowly making my way there. I've got a couple of True Samsung DDR400 coming my way. :p Anybody know anything about those sticks?

Thanks, BD231 and BuckNaked. I will try the timings. I still haven't decided though if I'm going to lower my FSB and up the multi...seems stable at 185 right now. Lower FSB = less bandwith though...:(

Unfortunately I hear it barely hits DDR400 at high timings, from almost every source. Please tell us (or me) how it overclocks, I would really like to see how it does. But to sum it up I think you're going to want to RMA it.

I have a 512mb stick of Corsair PC3200 CAS2. It most certainly does do 400MHz at CAS2, to boot! I honestly didn't play with the timings all that much, but I was at CAS2, 2-3-4 on my 8RDA+ and it ran well. The Northbridge was HOT; most probably due to the AS3 I put on there in place of the pink thermal goo-pad. HOT=effective heat transfer, and that's a good thing. :)

This was my first foray into "extreme" (<---for me, anyway) overclocking...very cool. But to be honest, I don't use my main rig soley to run benchmarks...it's my "everyday PC" I do my work, my email, my pictures etc on there...it needs to be stable.

Right now I'm sitting at 12 x 180 (=2170 MHz), idling at 43C!!!! That's with a Thermalright AX-7/AS3 with a quiet Vantec Stealth fan. I don't think I'll be messing with my settings anytime soon, as I do believe I have found the sweet spot for this combo. Yes, I have hit 2.4GHz. Was it stable? Heck no. :p But I've hit it. Unless you're a person that lives to brag about benchmarks and never intends on using your rig for day-to-day use, you'll never see a difference b/t 2.1 and 2.4 GHz.

Now, why is my mobo/CPU/memory combo more stable at 12x180 than 11.5x185 at the same 1.700 volts? Why is this? I haven't a clue...my memory did 400MHz, at the SAME timings, so I know it's not the memory. Quirk in the NForce2 chipset? Possible...but not probable...I dunno. I HAVE noticed that once my CPU temp (according to the latest MBM, 5.2.1.0) breaks 50C, things get real cranky, real fast...that may be it...probably...but hey, who knows?

But, I tell 'ya this; I paid $104 for a 2.17GHz CPU...I'll take that at that price anyday!!!! Rock stable right where I'm at.

Thank you, American Micro Devices for releasing this chip. You knew what you were doing...you wanted your enthusiasts back. OK, I'm here. Now, where's my 333FSB default BARTON? I'll take two, thank you. ;)

Its definately the chipset/motherboard/BIOS that is causing the problem. Some multipliers are accepted more readily than others by certain motherboards, even if the resulting clock speed should be the same... It could be the chipset (nForce2) and/or the motherboard itself and/or the BIOS for the board. I've noticed reports from different brand boards "liking" differnt multipliers and BIOS updates would change such things as well allowing for other multipliers to be used.

Hmm, a reasonable assumption, to be sure. :) I've been running the P95 TT (torture test) for about an hour now....no crashes....CPU bouncing from 48-49C. 50C has been the crash point for me. I don't know why.

I played UT2003 for about 30 minutes or so. Immediately after exiting the game, I checked my CPU temp. 46C. :D P95 is a mutha! All this fiddling is fun, though. :)

I ran P95 TT overnight, no crashes. :)

It seems as though 11.5 is a "bad multiplier" the board doesn't like that one. 12 seems stable. I may bump the FSB up to 185 again...hell, more MHz is always a beautiful thing!!!

How are you guys/gals doing w/your overclocks?

didn't realize that mult could make a difference...i'll try a higher mult... lower fsb when i get home :)

I didn't think so either, but apparently, it's true. My system is SO stable at 12x180 @ 1.7v. I'm going to try 185 at the same voltage. Anything higher than 1.7 and my CPU temps break 50C under stress and things get cranky...

my 1700+ can do 2088mhz (12.5x166, 1.6v) @ 50c idle, it's a JIUHB 0245 tbred-B from newegg. bump up the vcore to 1.65v, it can do 2240 (12.5x177), no error in memtest. prime95 & 3dbench. I'm concerned about the high temp, 35c case, 55c idle, 60c loaded, is this normal for a tbred-B? i suspect it's not the heatsink, cuz if i left the case open, it dropped to 42c idle, 50c loaded. btw, I have a $12 coolermaster DP5-7JDIB-0L, how come the HSF is so expensive consider my 2ghz cpu is only $50.

yeah your temps are a little high....

i idle around 40C but i use a vcore of 1.875V and you're only using 1.65V

i'd suggest a better hsf.. i.e. the slk-800 :)

Should be good enough if you have a fan that moves a nice amount of air. If my $5 GC68 can take one of these babes to 2.15ghz, then I'm sure yours should be able to handle it.

Hehe I think its actually thermaltake smart fan 2, at least mine is by thermaltake. Or maybe thermalright makes the "smart" fan, and thermaltake makes the "dumb" fan, 'cuz my fan doesn't adjust :| Anyways, Rheobus will be here tomorrow. I contacted Xoxide as I was just curious why my order hadn't shipped yet, and they said they forgot about it :( Good thing is they upgraded me for free to Next Day shipping, so it'll be here in time for my case modding project (along with my SLK-800 and a few other tweaks) :D After everything's all set-up, I'll find a more suitable fan speed and overall OC.

But as of now 14 x 174 has been rock solid for me, CPU temps are 99F or so at idle, 114-120F under load. I've left prime running overnight and when at work the last two days and it hasn't crashed yet. Definitely was my memory not being able to handle the FSB speeds.
