Interesting take by Doug. The price is really going to make or break it. The Maverick offers some stiff competition! That & a lack of 4 doors.

I think they should add electric windows & speakers.

They should have made it a 30k truck with more features basically. That's still a great price.

But if it "costs" them nothing to selling a $25k stripper, that's not a bad thing either.
Ultimately I do think the lack of 4 doors will turn off a lot of people.
Personally I dig it.

We have like 6 Kei trucks in my town at the moment. This seems like the perfect step up, haha!

I want to see the cost of the upgrades/changes. If the SUV conversion costs another $25K then we haven't really gone anywhere.

Yeah the North American market has all ready spoken and we want 4 door trucks. The Slate is a niche vehicle at best and Ford has already done it better with the Maverick.

You can get a hybrid with better fuel economy and longer range for around the same price. Plus you get things like power windows, power locks, power mirrors, Sync4, and so much more.

My hunch is there will be a bunch of those high end trucks coming out of California if the fuel cost predictions pan out.

Wankpanzer. There's a lot I like about the Slate. It just needs to be a bit /more/. A little bigger, and a little more payload. I'd also like an an extended cab, but I could probably live with a standard if the bed were bigger.

Sounds like you need an F350 crew cab diesel dually 4x4.

My extended cab f150 is pretty decent, but I could go smaller. The extra room is very nice, but it's a PITA to drive in congested areas. It turns like an aircraft carrier. Something Tacoma class would be ideal. An extended cab for dry/semi secure storage, ~6' bed, good ground clearance, and good towing capacity.

Crewcabs are about useless to me, but that's about all there is. They're for people that need a sedan, but like the look of a truck. Space to put the kids for soccer practice, and go 4wheeling in gravel parkinglots. If the day comes where I have to buy a crewcab, I'd probably remove the seats and add storage. I could probably work something out, but it's extra work I don't want to do. I want the length to be in the bed.

What will be a bigger failure?

CT for sure:

1. Extremely non-standard aesthetic design
2. Virtually every corner cut upon release
3. Negative political branding

As @bbhaag pointed out, the Maverick will be a better deal if they can't keep the price down on the Slate. Without the $7.5k tax incentive, I wonder if they can even get it below $30k!

I played with building a Maverick this morning. That $28K goes up fast. One can get close to $40K at the hybrid XLT trim level without even trying to spend just to spend.

AC and Android Auto is all I really need in a car. Everything else is fluff....unless it's performance related :p
