I'd turned it off earlier, but David vs Goliath in the men's hoops final is getting interesting.

Canada wins Breakdancing Olympic gold. I saw the performance and had no idea what I was looking at.

Danish men handball are obliterating Germany in the final.
39-26 largest win in a final.

pretty classless for Step to make that 'sleep time' gesture....is really that hard to with with some class nowadays?

I realize his shooting is what won the game, but France only has a handful of NBA players on their roster so this game should have never been in doubt...

US Women escape against France in basketball. Last second bucket by France only a 2 pointer.

US would have been in the bronze medal game if not for Curry going nuclear late vs Croatia. And they would have lost the game vs France too probably.

Do you even watch NBA? That's Steph's signature gesture when he ices a game late. It's not about showing up the other team, but getting his fans excited. It's the rough equivalent of spiking the football after scoring a game-winning TD.

I guarantee you the players on France weren't bothered by it. Steph Curry isn't known for being an egotist, because he's always been considered a small shooter and not one of the game's premier wings.

Agreed the talent gap is huge between Team USA and the competition; in particular, Serbia is still kicking themselves for not closing out the semifinal game.
As Steve pointed out, without Steph's scoring in both games, we're left with a bronze medal. Somehow, Embiid saved our asses late in the win over Serbia.

I still don't get how Olympic athletes are not fully protected against covid. Getting DQed for handoff is really bad.
Agreed and I've thought about these things a fair amount. Now the covid... I haven't gotten it, but I'm exceptionally careful. I wear top quality 3M N95's, have had every c-9 vax I could get as fast as I could (8). I've been watching the Olympics. I don't remember seeing a human with a mask on, spectator, judge, coach, athlete, what have you. Lyles wasn't the only athlete to get covid there, there were likely dozens.

That 3-pointer went in. IIRC, the ball bounced off the rim, went 3+ feet in the air and fell through the hoop.

USA female gymnast Jordan Chiles' bronze in individual floor exercise was nullified by Olympics' officials because her amended score was by virtue of a challenge by her coaches that was alleged to have been offered 4 seconds too late (one minute limit). However, there's documentation that proves that the challenge was offered after 47 seconds, not 64 seconds. This could go to arbitration but it's highly likely that Chiles' medal will remain hers. She's being roughed up in social media. I haven't seen that stuff, but read a story at NY Times.

what's weird is that Romania should have entered their own complaint with the judging in the same event, because their 4th place finisher should have finished 3rd, in place of the Romanian gymnast for floor that did originally finish 3rd...but only the US interceded, which somehow leaped Chiles into Bronze from 5th...thus devastating both Romanian gymnasts, who were equally likewise screwed by poor judge performance during their routines.

All of that specific event was fucked by the judges, and neglected/inconsistent intervention by those nations' teams.

Great Olympics, I love track and gymnastics. I'd marry Gabby Thomas if she'd have me, my wife would probably officiate the ceremony. Always fun to watch, sometimes I wish everyone could win. Dang USA for being so fricking dominant lol.

I watched the last part (maybe third) of the women's marathon, which was on the last day, Aug. 11. It was tremendous, in particular the last 5-10 miles or so. If you have access to it on Peacock, that's where I recommend watching it. It has more details than this, which is very edited for brevity:
