I just gotta ask, what happened to Madison Cawthorn?

I assume he lost his primary?

OK, that's fine, but if you take a loan, knowing the full details of the loan and agree to pay it back, why should it not be paid as agreed?
Again, you (and millions of other boomers) did the same when you deducted your mortgage interest from your taxes. Why did you not refuse to ever take deduction? After all, you agreed to pay the mortgage as written.

I DID pay the mortgage as written. How do you not get the difference?

Rather than college, following my 4 for the Corps, I signed up for a union apprenticeship. In addition to working for greatly reduced wages, (60% of journeyman scale) I also had to attend 144 hours of "related training" every winter...at my own expense. Welding, diesel mechanics, etc. To all at one of the local community colleges. No one paid those for me, and IRS regsdidn't permit me to deduct the tuition, books, travel or lodging when I had to go out of town for training.

We have a whole fucking thread about student loans. Take your whining about contracts there.

No I didn't.

But a turning point arrived around 1970, Thelin says. With double-digit inflation, an oil embargo and a sputtering economy, a perfect storm began to build. College tuition and fees climbed as much or more than the inflation rate. Private loans, heavily subsidized by the federal government, gradually replaced federal grants as the main source of money for both poor and middle-class college students.

As family income fell, borrowing to pay for college took off, while public investment in higher education dropped. Sandy Baum of the Urban Institute says that drop has been the single biggest reason for the increase in college costs
.

um, you should actually read the things that you take the time to keep reposting, expanding, underlining and high-liting in red. If you had the type of education that afforded critical reading skills maybe you'd realize that the time spent doing all the these things to this this NPR thing you keep posting would have been better spent reading this thing from NPR, because you'd then maybe know that it specifically supports Ironwing's point and completely rejects what you keep trying to claim.

It's insane that you don't get this. Literally. Insane.

Lol Almost word for word and could have been summed up with: FYGM

lol, I thought the same thing after reading the geek's screed:

"Veteran complains about how college was still a loan and you were responsible for it at his age, too!--sure it was much cheaper, but so was everything."

Veteran thinks we don't know that he obviously knows the GI Bill was and is a thing, and for some reason, believes this to be wholly irrelevant to his fucking dumb brain functioning.

How is Gaetz re elected and not in jail?
For the first part of your question the answer is: Florida.

For the second part, he got off. The DOJ declined to charge because the witness was deemed shady (because he admitted to the crimes Gaetz was supposed to be convicted of? it was weird).

I'm surprised no major org has called the House for the Repugs yet (I saw a headline from People a couple nights back and assumed some real news org had called it). Obviously counting of mailed ballots in California is going slowly, but CA-27 is a lost cause. Two other CA districts have (R) up by 5%. With CO-3 leaning Bobo by a nose, it looks like GOP will end up with 221 seats in their conference. Good luck Kevin McCarthy LOL. Dems do have a couple tight races in Cali to hold onto: CA-13 and CA-47.

I believe the NYT model had the GOP with 221 seats on the morning after the election, so pretty much spot on if the remaining seats end up as expected.

I skipped 3 pages to get past the mortgage discussion.. Fuck.

Anywho... Maybe I'll add a post about election results to the election results thread.

Rs officially won the house, barely. Let the crazy begin!

Announcing they are the only pussies on the planet afraid of the shitty Russian army is hell of a way to begin.

Along with hype and underperformance, just one more thing they have in common with the Russian mobliks of draft age.

Reagan would be ashamed.

Not sure how your post has anything more to do with election results than the student loan debate?

Welp, republicans have now taken the house. It's official.
And first on the agenda: to investigate Biden AND to stop his agenda.
Oh...? Really....?
Is that the agenda to give people $35 insulin?
Is that the agenda to forgive student loans?
Is that the agenda to protect marriage equality, protect the right to an abortion, and the protection of social security and medicare?

Again I just have to ask... HOW do people vote for these morons?
Don't they realize the Biden agenda IS THEIR agenda too????

The good news is that this should make retaking the house in 24 that much easier.

We have to survive 8 more years of MAGAtards because they'll start aging out of the voting population then.

There's a line from the Dark Knight where Sal Marone walks and Jim Gordon says to Harvey Dent, "It's a shame Sal's gonna walk" to which Dent replies, "Yeah well its a good thing the mob keeps giving you second chances".

It's a good thing the MAGA keeps reminding us how diabolical and abysmal their vision of America is.

The more pain they inflict on Gen Z.. the better it is because they will just show up at the ballot box for their rights.
