That's not accurate. The SCOTUS has no such doctrine. They've been sticklers about state law being upheld & the role of legislatures in establishing those laws.
Their new doctrine is that the state legislatures aren't subject to state constitutions, state courts, or governor vetoes when deciding federal elections.

Wasn’t that press conference with Rudy Giuliani a real mess? I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything so insane on TV. If this were Facebook or Twitter, it would have been tagged and removed as false information yet Fox News allowed this mess a national soapbox to spew this nonsense to the world. And what gets me, Rudy with those nut cases up there actually appear to believe what they were saying. Maybe we’ve all succumbed to the Covid virus, we’re now dead, and this is hell. Maybe we’re in hell and Donald Trump is the devil, and the year 2020 is our eternity, our eternal punishment. It sure seems that way. If and when we get through this, if we do, and when Joe Biden actually becomes president, if he does, when that day comes we all will be so mentally exhausted that we all will need some major therapy both physically and mentally. Have you ever felt like you were losing your mind, well you are. The mental stress from Covid and the lockup’s is nothing compared to the mental stress from this election. Some very normal and logical thing has happened, called an American election with Joe Biden victorious, yet we are stuck in this Donald Trump nightmare that goes on and on, and on some more. When will it all end? Will it end? Or, is this our hell for eternity? There is no god, there is only Donald Trump.

The US is dying. Every institution from SCOTUS down to county canvasser is corrupted with Republican politics and malfunctioning. The Constitution is no match for it, since the courts are sick with it too. Make no mistake, this is what collapse of an empire looks like, when the institutions are broken and can't be fixed within the system.
At this point, I think this is 100% correct. Look at 2020's election results, and tell me you think that half the voting population is able to observe objective reality and make educated decisions on those observations.
Its coming down to the Electors. He is gonna try. Count on it.
Man, I called all this shit months ago.

It's why I've been saying, this isn't over until January 20th at 12:01. That's when we'll know if this country is still ostensibly one of laws rather than men.

Trump, right now, has a suitcase that controls thousands of nuclear weapons. How anyone could think any of this is a done deal before he's no longer privy to those codes boggles my mind.

I think we all called this shit months ago, that this would be the most dangerous time - when Trump knows he lost but still has the powers of the presidency and the backing of his party.

I was crossing my fingers hoping that he would just try to wreck the government on his way out and try to pardon/cover up his criminal activity but this was what I think a lot of people saw coming. Not that he would cross his arms and pout in the White House but that he would claim the election was stolen and try to basically start a civil war.

Of course he would try to start a civil war. Only about 73 million people are members of his Death Cult, and there's about 80 million people who've refused to join. That cannot stand.

The current situation was certainly in the realm of possibility. Biden's people weren't gaming this out for no reason prior to the election despite the tut tutting of the Republicans who now sit silently as Trump ineptly tries to overthrow the Republic.

The strategy is to now court Republican legislators in a few swing states to not do their duty.

To be clear, it is to court Republican legislatures to defy the laws of their own states and attempt to illegally overthrow the will of their own constituents in an action that could potentially lead to civil conflict.

This has always been the biggest (and really only) threat all along.
My hope obviously is that nobody is a faithless elector.
My fear is there will be some and if there is, this country is going to absolutely tear itself apart (and it should)

Russian money? You mean even Putin has turned on Trump now? Well he was a useful idiot, Putin probably gets more value out of Trump tearing apart the US than leaving him as President.

There would need to be a shitload of faithless electors. That is not a meaningful risk.

Trump’s only hope is to somehow convince the legislatures of multiple states to overthrow the will of the people and for the courts to allow legislatures to change the choosing of electors after they have already been chosen. That, or have the courts disenfranchise several large states to throw it to the house.

These risks are small but the problem is they are an existential threat to democracy. If someone told me there was a 1 in 20 chance of a dinosaur killing asteroid hitting the earth tomorrow I would be pretty fucking alarmed.

It is hard to imagine anything Putin could even contemplate for Trump to do at this point, that would be any better for Putin's interests than what Trump is already accomplishing:

Divert all attention from Russia's international expansionist activities - complete
Delegitimize the US from having influence on the rest of the world - mission accomplished
Delegitimize democracy in general - nearly accomplished
Dismantle the US military effectiveness from within - in progress
Incite a US civil war - second or third attempt actively underway (Trump's attempts to incite race riots with Putin's direct assistance largely failed, team Trump's advocating for kidnapping and murder of political opponents failed, now moving on to a more direct coup attempt)

I will bet you money, out of pure fucking vanity, Trump is trying to make the count less than 306. Not so much win now, as to just put a dent in the 306 and make it lower than his own 304.

This is why he's now banking on MI. He thinks he has a shot after the Wayne County shit.

It's as petty and vain as that. I will bet you.

Please. He's trying to establish the pretext to ignore the election & stay in power. Fraud! Cheaters! Vast nationwide conspiracy! Communist voting machines! Cuba! Venezuela! We have to do something!

He'll keep selling it as long as possible.
