The suits are going down faster than one can report on them (yes!).

"Judges rule against Trump campaign in 6 Pennsylvania cases over absentee envelopes

Two judges in Pennsylvania on Friday tossed a half dozen court cases the Trump campaign had brought to invalidate thousands of votes around Philadelphia, where voters carried President-elect Joe Biden to a win in the battleground state."

I guess this isn't quite the same story? This case is being withdrawn by the law-firm bringing it.

I'm thinking now that any sort of constitutional coup isn't really on the cards any more. With all the cases collapsing, I can't see there's any basis for state legislatures to try and over-ride the popular vote.

Which just leaves the question of how Trump will eventually leave the Whitehouse. Seems more likely to end with a whimper than a bang, now.

I think it will get worse. Even though Trump is losing in the courts, eventually the US Supreme Court will get involved. They must. That is why Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell went to such great lengths to ensure the high court was stacked with the justices they could count on. Donald Trump has over nine weeks remaining in the Whitehouse, does anyone really believe Donald Trump is just going to sit there? At some point Trump along with his enablers will push the button and the high court will get involved. And it really doesn't matter about these frivolous lawsuits from Trump's lawyers, the will all be dismissed because I think they were only a distraction in the first place. A smoke screen for what is to come. Look at New York... Donald Trump said he would not allow New York access to the covid vaccine. Well, just imagine Donald trump holding back on vaccinations of, oh say, of the people who never voted for Donald Trump... the democrats. After all, they have all of our names and they know where every democrat lives. If you are registered to vote, they know. So this is the kind of revenge we will see from Donald Trump because after Trump's supreme court hands Donald the presidency, the revenge will set in. I predict that there will be a coup, there must be. There must be simply because Donald Trump is not going anywhere, not now and not on January 20th. So, what else is new?

You need to chill. The Supreme Court is not going to hand Trump the presidency even if it gets involved.

Sort of looks like the whole coup idea is fizzling out. It’s just Trump thrashing about with no real plan at all as usual. He knows he’s done.

This has always been the last ditch effort plan. Push the lawsuits up to the SC.
I just question which of the recent ones they would be able to push.

Too many lawsuits to keep track of. which ones could actually make it up the ladder?
Maybe they will come up with a whole new batch of lawsuits they can file now that Rudy is on it, but time is running out.

36 EV's is a lot of states to flip with lawsuits.

Why should we expect the SCOTUS to rule any differently than the lower courts.? Many of these suits that are being thrown out were brought before judges appointed by republicans. When you show up in court to prove a theory without any evidence, you're going to lose. Judicial bias will only help you in a close case.

95% won't get anywhere near SCOTUS. The ones that do won't be consequential to certifying election results. Trump's options are trying to corrupt electors, trying to activate the military, or creating massive civil unrest. He can't beat Biden, but he can further the destruction of America.

Nobody anywhere seems to be paying any attention to this, probably because of how far fetched the whole concept it. But Esper was fired, probably to keep him from stopping it...if it happened.
Esper was fired for saying he didn’t support using the military against US civilians, something Trump wanted to do. After he defied Trump on this he was a dead man walking.

While writing that I had to stop and marvel about how the outgoing president wanted to attack his own people with the US military. Thank god we are free of that psychopath.

I don't understand what this discussion is about. I was assuming the 'Dominion servers' thing was some Star Trek or other geeky in-joke! Bit like comments about 'Madagascar has closed its ports'.

I don't share your confidence in the Supremes - to me they appear 100% political and partisan. But I do agree it looks like the coup idea is dying a death. Doubt it will even reach the Supreme Court. The only question seems to be just how humiliating and undignified will Trump's scurrying from the Whitehouse actually be? Does the Whitehouse actually have escape tunnels or was that purely a Hollywood invention? Maybe he'll sneak out that way when nobody's looking?

your first mistake was assuming Mitch's motivations line up with Trump's. Mitch and the repubs are preparing to toss Trump aside like the empty husk that he is. They suckered him into stacking the court for decades to come, on the thinnest of promises that it would somehow help him.

I wonder if Trump realizes that the person who most helped Biden win his bid for the White House is none other than himself.

I wonder if Trump's supporters will ever come around to realizing that. I'm pretty sure there are a lot of Repubs up on the hill that realize that but can't openly admit it. Sucks to be them in that regard. They're damn lucky their constituencies are still uneducated and gullible enough for them to keep pulling the wool over their eyes. One day though.......hopefully. I look to the young ones in Georgia who were/are informed and self-aware thus allowing them to know that Biden would be the one to help them secure a better future for themselves (my daughter included among them)

I also wonder how long it will take for the Trump Effect to wear off enough to get the Repubs in Congress into a mood where the gov't can again get running the way it should.

Oh and fvck Moscow Mitch McConnell, that guy beats out Trump hands down for the damage and regression they've both caused the nation to suffer through.

The closer you get to the top, the more partisan and broken it becomes. All the lower courts in the land upheld that Trump's records could be seized for investigation even if they couldn't be used for indignting a sitting president. The Supreme Court rebuked them all to cover for the Donald. And if the case of Bush vs Gore is any indication, they can have an awful fast turn around when they need to score a point for their team.

But that would be if they even decided to hear any of trump's lawyers bullshit, the lower courts have sent them all packing ASAP, could you imagine having Rudy present a case to the SCOTUS?, part of me wishes it happens for the
lulz would be insane.

No no, it's never republicans fault! It's the democrats' fault when the democrats lose and some horrible person that republicans "don't like" such as Trump, wins. You know, because the democrats made them vote for him.

Now it's back to being the democrats' fault that not enough republicans voted for Trump!

Yeah, I wonder if all the people who repeatedly claimed Trump was invincible and no bad press about him mattered have reconsidered.

It turns out the guy was a bad politician who lost by the largest margin for an incumbent in nearly a century. All those scandals that didn’t matter? They mattered - the country just really didn’t like the guy.

Most Rs like to frame Trump's behavior as essentially trivial obstinance as some of them pressure state officials to overturn the election in their favor.

"Haha stilly libs think the we Republicans are trying a coup.....unless we can, then we absolutely are doing the coup."

Yes, they are 100% ‘kidding, not kidding’.
