So basically the GT2 RS is about 5-7 seconds slower than the new ZR1?

Not necessarily.

Sport Auto was only able to achieve 7:38 with the previous ZR1, while GM showed a 7:26 video.

Either Horst von Saurma is better at driving Porsche's at the limit or the weather conditions impacted the ZR1s time significantly.

I'll be curious to see if Sport Auto can replicate anywhere close to 7:19 in the ZR1.

7.24 min – Porsche 911 GT2 RS (997 mk2) – 620 hp, 1405 kg (w/o rollcage), semi-slicks
7.24 min – Gumpert Apollo Sport – 700 hp, 1458 kg, semi-slicks
7.32 min – Porsche Carrera GT – 612 hp, 1473 kg
7.33 min – Porsche 911 GT2 (997 mk1) – 530 hp, 1497 kg, semi-slicks
7.33 min – Porsche 911 GT3 RS (997 mk2) – 450 hp, 1417 kg, semi-slicks
7.33 min – Pagani Zonda F – 602 hp, 1371 kg
7.34 min – Audi R8 GT – 560 hp, 1577 kg, semi-slicks
7.34 min – Koenigsegg CCR – 806 hp, 1418 kg
7.34 min – Nissan GT-R (R35 mk2) – 530 hp, 1770 kg (est.), semi-slicks, first drive
7.35 min – Ruf Rt12 (997) – 650 hp, 1573 kg, semi-slicks
7.36 min - Nissan GT-R (R35 mk2) - 530 hp, 1784 kg, semi-slicks, Supertest
7.38 min - Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera, 570 hp, 1493 kg
7.38 min – Corvette ZR1 – 647 hp, 1533 kg
7.38 min – Lexus LFA – 560 hp, 1598 kg
7.38 min – Ferrari 458 Italia – 570 hp, 1540 kg
7.38 min – Nissan GT-R (R35 mk1) – 486 hp, 1778 kg, semi-slicks

Those tires are not that expensive. I thought it would be pricey.

Yeah, I was watching the G meter and 1.3-1.5 was like the norm. :D

And it didn't really look like he was on the razor edge at those G's either. Sick.

Not for tires of that size, not pricey one bit.

The most expensive tire in that size on Tirerack is the Pirelli PZero Corsa System at $369. Next is $330 for a different Corsa System (car specific, I believe). Next are Yoko ADVANs at $318. Conti DW's are $179. Star Specs are $195. I think "not pricey one bit" is a bit of an exaggeration. ;)

I think you're looking at the wrong size. ZR1 front tires are 285/30/19, the same size I run on the back of my car. The Corsa's you mention at that size are $663/4. Pilot Sports PS2 ZP are $577, and there are 5 other tires over $430.

The Tirerack link posted above goes to 235/40ZR18 - I guess I've been looking at the wrong size..a 285/30/19 is definitely a different animal.

Good god - a 285mm-wide front tire is just insane. I guess the ZR1 has so much power that the rolling resistance of these ginormous tires doesn't make a dent.

Watch the video.

The sound of those tires is incredible. Talk about feedback.

Only the base Corvette now comes with smaller tires. Everything from the GS on up has large front and extra large rear tires. I was shocked when any set for the car ran 1500-2000 on TireRack.

IMO, the Z06 with the Z07 suspenion package is the ultimate track Vette. Would love to get one in a few years. I also agree with Naustica. The interior isn't anything flashy, but it isn't hideous and the seats are made for the average Vette buyer. I however feel they do need an option like on the V for something better.

Not sure what he's referring to. It's a production Corvette.

The tach and speedo are clearly where they are supposed to be in the instrument cluster.

I can accept ugly interior on a car. I can't accept ugly exterior on a car. Corvette may not have the best looking interior but exterior it's great looking car.

The Corvette looks a bit too 90s for me, they need a revamp imo. Although obviously the Porsche 911 hasn't really changed much for over 40 years so that's no better.

that is a pretty impressive video... the average G he was pulling is insane. The highest I have gotten in my z06 is 1.09G (on INVO's) and my car was basically on the verge of spinning out (i leave my car in competition mode and active handling was going nuts). But even that was out of the ordinary... i usually get up to .85-.95 before I start to lose traction (by that, I mean if i touch the throttle active handling goes nuts).

As far as the c6 interior goes, it is simplistic, but I like that personally. The seats could be better for sure, but they are ultra comfortable. My ass and back didn't hurt once on my ~13 hour drive from Tampa to Virginia

I haven't hit 1g yet. Im too much of a chicken. Closest was .9 something. And active handling was going berzerk as well. If those seats can hold that driver as he's hitting 1.2+ G, it's safe to say recreational track driver has nothing to worry about. Everything has a tradeoff and GM obviously didn't target Castiel track guys. Serious track rats will swap out the seat with their aftermarket favorite regardless what GM chooses.
