I can't wait to see the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 time.

Edit: It's apparently 'only' 7m 27s. Oh well. I'd still have it before any Corvette.

Jesus Christ that is fast. Amazing car.

I'm looking forward to seeing with the 2012 GTR and 201X McLaren MPC-12 does (when does that thing actually start heading to buyers?).

I would have really loved to see it inch out the Porche GT2 RS...just to make Porsche work a little harder ;)

Did Porsche ever post a video of the GT2 RS running 7:18?

The only verified source that has tested the GT2 RS ran a 7:24 (Sport Auto)

very impressive time... but all I can think of is that regardless how fast it is, the cockpit of a vette is not a pleasant place to be. GM interiors are the worst. I really want to like the vette, but just don't

Don't you have a EVO? It's interior is horrible...Corvette is at least on par interior wise, faster (stock), and not that more expensive in its base model.

2012's supposedly have better seats...and some interior tweaks which should please everyone.

I dunno - I haven't been in a ZR1 but the seats in the stock C6 are just a joke for a car with that kind of performance, at that price point. Don't the EVOs use Recaros? The last EVO I sat in had seats that fit like a glove. Agreed that the EVO interior is a little rattly and uses a lot of not-nice-feeling plastics, though. I don't think of either of these as an elegant GT car in any case.

I'll concede on the seats. I also have only been in a base and Z06 model and the seats were nothing to write home about. I still could get past that and the interior for the performance of the Corvette at its price.

I am not at all a Corvette hater - they are amazing cars for the money. It's just weird that they save a few bucks on something that is that critical to the safe enjoyment of the car when pushed to its limits. At least the CTS-V offers a (costly) Recaro option. If I bought a C6 it would be largely to track the car, and I'd feel compelled to spend several thousand dollars replacing the seats. That shouldn't be necessary in such a serious performance car.

I can accept ugly interior on a car. I can't accept ugly exterior on a car. Corvette may not have the best looking interior but exterior it's great looking car.

Back to OP, insane numbers. I find Nurburgring the most difficult course to drive when Im playing Gran Turismo on the PS3. :)

Video sounds like a tire commercial. Which it sort of is. Doesn't sound like much was changed in the car except the tires and it dropped 6 seconds. Hard to compare times when everyone is using different tires which have a significant affect on track times. That chassis engineer is a helluva driver. The lap was almost boring it was so controlled looking which is amazing considering how tricky the car is supposed to be when really pushed.

I agree, when it comes to a car I am admiring from afar but not actually driving. In a car I own, I am more tolerant of a so-so exterior than a bad interior, since when I'm using the car all I can see is the interior and the hood. Honestly my beef with the C6 is not the appearance of its interior anyway, but its feel and functionality. I still admire the car greatly and would consider buying one as a track car, but the interior is several leagues below what the car really deserves.

The Recaro's which GM uses for the CTS-V do not fit in the Corvette due to the drivetrain tunnel. It is weird they still haven't designed something better yet though.

To be clear I didn't mean those particular seats were the be-all and end-all - just that I'd like to see some kind of true performance seat offered (and preferably standard). There are any number of cheaper, less performance-oriented cars that have seats better than the Corvette's. I view it as a real comfort/safety issue.

I guess this would explain it.

Wikipedia said:
he GT2 RS clocked a record-breaking time of 7 minutes and 18 seconds around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife track (claimed by Porsche), one of the fastest times in modern production car history.[6] However, this was performed on the shorter Nurburgring course, which is 232 meters shorter. Given an average speed of 100MPH (160 km/h), this yields an addition 5.7 seconds, with a more typical allowance of 7 seconds. This would result in a range of 7:23-7:25, which is comparable to the 7:24 turned in by Horst von Saurma.

I find the interior just fine, especially the functionality part. I definitely agree it could be much, much better material and feel wise. But remember C6 came out in 2004 as 2005 model. HUD gives you all the data information so you don't have to look down and take your eyes off the road. Controls and knobs are few and everything is close and easy to reach. Seats are terrible as a track car but if you think about GM target demographic buyers and the car as a GT cruiser it makes sense. Buyers of Corvettes are people in their 50s and 60s close to retirement or already retired. They're likely overweight and with bad back, hips, and knees. Retired people like to take vacations and roadtrips and the seats are very comfortable for long drives. It may not hold you from sliding back and forth at the track but for cruising at 1500 rpm in 6th gear at 80mph on the highway for extended period, it's great.

But it's a shame Z06 and ZR1 have the same seats as the base but the bean counters are probably to blame.
