By all accounts the meeting did not go well. Sources in Europe and the United States suggest that Epstein was offered a new contract but he has not signed it, presumably because he doesn't like the terms. Ecclestone hasn't been paid, and the state of Texas hasn't disbursed the $25 million from the trust fund. The rules say it can't until after Nov. 18, less than one year before the scheduled event. Even so, online inquires suggest that all of the applications, paperwork and meetings required to apply for the money have not been completed.

On Saturday, at the Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi, two weeks after Ecclestone made his internal-conflict statements in India, he had even harsher words about the Austin situation, telling the media that, “I wouldn't want to put my money down that it will happen.”

According to Reuters, this is how Ecclestone explained it: “What's happened is you've got a guy that owns the land and started building, and there's the guy that owns the company and has got a contract with us. And they forgot to talk to each other. The truth of the matter is maybe the people that have put the money down are perhaps a bit pissed off that he's getting some publicity and they are not and are saying, ‘We've got our money on the line, you haven't got any money on the line.' They are trying to get it together. I've said, ‘You guys have got to fall in love. Get married.'”

well, Stefano Domenicali is coming to a hospital near me for a seminar. I'm going to make sure I get there 2 hours early and get a good seat.

Anyone have any questions you can think of I can ask him?

Join us for an engaging look at Formula One racing and Ferrari, a company that exemplifies
leadership in their industry through dedication to teamwork, research, innovation and excellence.
Just as The Methodist Hospital is leading medicine, Ferrari is leading automotive technology.
They fulfill our dreams of elegance, excitement and success on the race track. Learn more about
the company’s plans for the future, as Mr. Domenicali discusses environmental sustainability,
the innovative achievements of the Formula Uomo initiative, and human performance in the
extreme sport of Formula One racing.

I'm planning on asking him how they work to achieve maximum performance out of the drivers, as there are really two systems they have to focus on - the car, the driver - through biomedical engineering.

Only thing I'm hoping for now is for 2012 to start off more like 2010 did. If it starts off like 2011 with the same guy being almost a second faster than everyone else at almost every race I'll probably stop following the sport.

Would also be good to see Kubica back in the seat in his original form, but that is looking like a pipe-dream too.

even with 1 guy a mile ahead of everyone else, there's been tons of great racing this year.

The "Best of the rest" fight for 2nd place has been good but it's hard to feel as passionate about it.

Webber winning the race tomorrow would be the best way to end this season I would say. Doubt it will happen though.

Same old.. although.. Webber was much closer to finger boy.

Webber has looked good all race weekend. I hope this is what next year is going to look like. Webber looks good all through practice although arguably he hasn't had a problem qualifying it is getting the tires to last through a whole race and starting.

I assume Webber in second with a lap or two to go tomorrow brings out team orders?

I thought today's qualifying was exciting.. and I hope the race will be the same. The last two have been massive dozers.

Also, Eddie's interview with Barichello was emotional. I never liked him as a driver, but he seems a genuine nice guy. Hope he gets a fitting farewell.

well, that wasn't the most exciting end to a season, but what can ya do?

i think red bull handed the win to webber, but i don't mind. not the most satisfying win, but pass the hat around sometime.

there was more action in the 2011 season than in 10 seasons before it, and 2012 should be even better. expect the cars to be closer in performance to the winner, while there are still lots of variables.

while americans perpetually fumble with f1 on tv and in austin, in the uk the excellent bbc coverage is being replaced with a sky f1 hd channel which sounded promising (comparable to premium sports channels here and no ads during the race, each is way way better than speed tv).

Yeah, I think we saw orchestrated team orders there. I don't think anything was ever wrong with Vettel's transmission.

Hamilton got a win due to a mechanical failure, and then he got the payback.

Alonso was struggling mightily with his car all day. It was quite a job to finish where he did. He must have been worn out at the end of the race.

I'm also finding it hard to believe there was anything wrong with Vettle's car, especially with him cranking off fastest laps towards the end. No oil? Eh, I'm not buying it.

Autosport has seen the telemetry. Unless they chose to fake that and sabotage the car just to let Mark win, when he had race pace all week (he had already closed the gap to 2.5s even before the mechanical failure, that is a bad wheel nut in a 3 stop race), they did it early in the race where things can still go wrong with Mark, team orders are legal and Vettel set the car in wet racing mode as was evident by the flashing led in back causing the tranny to shift slower as to not lurch it. Beyond that when he comes into the pit the second time you can also see that his car won't go into first until the fourth try, it grabs neutral twice and second twice even though he was already in second.

Final comment, even the argument with the car. The RB-7's chasis is really set up all year for Interlagos, it is the ideal situation for which they could run. The track needs a huge amount of downforce and a car that can pull out of turns quickly with low gearing, low top speed. The RB-7 was never the fastest car in the straights but could pull away out of corners. Even in a reduced engine mode it is plausible that with a .75s deficit do to short shifting the RB-7 could be faster than other cars. Even at the end Button had to park the car as he was running so rich just to keep fuel for the FIA. Webber never really needed to pull away from Vettel, although he did finish 16s ahead in roughly 40 laps his race pace was fine to make sure he brought the car home without having to push it. Mark did set fastest lap the last three so my guess is he had more in the bag but the key is bringing the car home. Also assuming that Vettel's car really did have a problem I am fairly confident engineering was telling him to lay off it a little as the gearboxes are obviously similar.

RBR needs to bring back Flavio if they orchestrated the whole thing.

ON AN ASIDE: KIMI IS BACK!

AFAIK, the flashing light is just a light the driver can turn on. It doesn't indicate any "wet mode".

It indicates that Vettel accidentally hit the rain light switch.

Or he accidentally hit the pit lane speed limiter.

BBC coverage stated car was in wet mode...different speed of blinking based on different conditions.

I'm sure there is a "wet mode" for the car, but that probably doesn't turn on the rain light. The two blinking modes are normal, and pit lane, as far as I know.

We have seen cars in the rain where the driver forgot to turn the light on.

Why not just tell Vettel over the radio to put the car in "wet mode" to save it if it would help?
