Daimler drove Chrysler into the ground. When they bought Chrysler, the company was making money and doing well. By the time they were done, the company was a shell of itself. From what I heard, Daimler manages like crap and was more of the problem. Just because its a "German" company doesnt make it good.

That said, I really like the new Grand Cherokee, but I actually think this is a step backward for the Charger. I wasn't a huge fan of the current/older style, but it looks a little better than this to me. Reminds me of how Mazda has been styling their cars to look worse than the previous models. Not sure why...

I don't care about the financial prowess or destitution of Chrysler. I'm talking strictly and narrowly about the design LOOK of the vehicles. I don't care if Diamler was the financial boon or befuddlement of Chrysler. The car designs took a turn for the MUCH better after "mercedes" had some input.

That said, the base version of any model usually looks anemic, or "teh suck". Charger was no exception. It goes from really lame, to really sinister going from base charger to SRT8 charger or a nicely done RT.

I really disagree. Mercedes only helped Chrysler become even more porky (looks and weight) and nothing really good came from their merger with Merdeces. I am simply saying I don't think Mercedes deserves any credit, if anything, they made the looks worse across the Chrysler line along with killing any existing fuel-efficient models they had.

Chrysler was actually pretty well regarded for their design in the 90s prior to being "merged" with Daimler. Daimler's poor management ran off most of the people that had helped Chrysler establish a good rep for design, and then because of the financial situation they put Chrysler in, they couldn't take design chances like they were able to in the 90s. Plus, one area they definitely could have helped Chrysler, with interiors, they very clearly did not at all.

Mercedes really did not help Chrysler much at all (and I don't think they did anything for their design), which was a big reason why the merger failed and Chrysler ended up in the situation they did.

merc's input probably didn't happen in time for changes until maybe MY2001. the merger happened in 1998.

daimler is responsible for the JS platform ugliness. also responsible for the dodge caliber/jeep patriot/compass ugliness. i'm not sure when they decided to stop trying, 2005 or earlier i guess. probably right after the launch of the 300.

I find Chrysler vehicles to be the ugliest of the American car companies. It pains me to think how Jeep has sold their soul to get a piece of the action with the dumbass Compass, Patriot, & Liberty. The 07+ Wranglers look like shit in my opinion and the 4-door wrangler unlimited is a giant waste. My dream of owning a wrangler dies a little more whenever I see one of the new ones.

dont know why anyone likes chrysler vehicles.

I don't know why some people like Ford Fusions, but they buy them anyway. They have their reasons. Just as you have yours for what you like, and I have mine for what I like. If everyone liked the same thing, it would be a very boring planet.

On the contrary, Id be interested in a Liberty if they made it not look like a toaster.

My biggest problem with Chrysler cars is reliability, or the lack thereof. Next is the interior design, which has been getting worse not better over the years. There is hope with recent updates, some cars are getting their interior upgraded.

Ford Fusions are very highly regarded for that class of cars, compared to almost all Chryslers. IIRC the only recommended Chrysler is their Ram and maybe the 300.

I do agree that looks are subjective and people like different things. That alone has kept Chrysler going for many years. They do have a distinctive style that you love or hate.

I just spent 2 hours PaintShopping my concept of what the Charger should look like:

With all this hating on my design, maybe I should be working for Chrysler

You made the cabin longer instead of the hood it looks like... :|

Why would the hood be longer? It's a 4 door version of the Challenger. I cut in the middle of the cabin and moved everything back 6", filled the gap, opened up the rear window, and made some minor changes to make it look better with 4 doors.

This is the original pic

Hmm... I read yesterday that the Challenger had a 110" wheelbase, but Allpar says it's 116" just like the new Charger. So I shouldn't have stretched it at all. It's 122" with the stretch.

Yes, it's 116", and the EPA says it's a compact car.

The Charger is a large car, with a 120" WB.

I thought for 2011 they shortened it to a 116" wheelbase. Damn the internet for all this false info.. I should have researched more.

Dodge left the brakes, the chassis layout, and the 120-inch wheelbase alone, which is fine by us.

That's from the recent C&D Charger article.

Challenger 116"

Charger 120"
