I'm interested to see what they do with the interior when it's turned into a patrol car. My CV should be due to be cycled in the next year or two.

That didn't help, but when the crash happened Chrysler's product line was absolutely terrible. They were still selling the PT cruiser that hadn't had a serious update in its 10 year run. Mercedes seemed to lose interest in Chrysler after a while and just let them wither and die. Cerberus seemed to think that they could just produce crap and people would buy it. It seems like now the people that are in charge discovered that they have to produce cars people actually like before people will buy them.

yeah, they just need to work on the image and hopefully the reliability will be good (Chrysler + Fiat doesn't bode too well for reliability...).

It seems only their SRT products are the only reliable cars they made within the past decade.

I'm a bit indifferent on the exterior updates of the Charger. The back end I would say is probably the best from purely an exterior design perspective. I'd probably really have to see it in person to really decide.

The Durango on the other hand looks 10000% better than the latest mini-vanesqe monstrosity, and to a lesser extent the original design. I think it looks rather good.

The rear looks nice and clean like the Challenger. But the rest of it is completely different and doesn't match that clean styling!

I like it but don't love it, and I'm not sure that I like it better than the previous version. One of the things I don't like is how the grill actually juts out a bit past the front bumper. I do really like the taillights, but I'd change the exhaust. It has that, small circle clearly visible inside the "tips" that I just hate. Black that out or just go with round tips. Oh, and that spoiler is not good looking, doesn't fit the car well at all I don't feel.

The interior is a definite improvement.

Its a step in the right direction, but its still not enough. Definitely need a better transmission, and they should drop crappy engines like the 2.7 entirely. Hopefully they'll be able to apply Fiat's MultiAir tech and get a good transmission in the car and then this new V6 will really live up to its potential.

I hope the SRT version looks like the SEMA car, only with a bit more refinement (the rear spoiler for instance, make it look less like a bunch of plastic slapped on, likewise for the side scoop, which I would like other than it just looks like plastic slapped on, actually work it into the door more).

Diamler sold Chrysler to Cerberus over 3 years ago. These recent vehicles like the grand cherokee and the dodge ram that have been getting great reviews (especially for their interiors) have been done with Chrysler doing much of the work on their own. If anything, the cars that they're doing now without Diamler's influence are better than the ones that they were making with their help.

Daimler drove Chrysler into the ground. When they bought Chrysler, the company was making money and doing well. By the time they were done, the company was a shell of itself. From what I heard, Daimler manages like crap and was more of the problem. Just because its a "German" company doesnt make it good.

That said, I really like the new Grand Cherokee, but I actually think this is a step backward for the Charger. I wasn't a huge fan of the current/older style, but it looks a little better than this to me. Reminds me of how Mazda has been styling their cars to look worse than the previous models. Not sure why...

honda has been doing that for a decade and they're still selling more cars every year.

It's still an overly plasticy shitty car.

Compared to? I don't understand how plastic is acceptable on numerous $50,000+ imports but not acceptable on a $20,000 Chrysler.

Maybe they could stick some fake wood trim on it with 3M tape and charge $10,000 more for it like the Europeans do...

Do the transmissions still blow up at 50k miles?

Missed this. The old 4-speed Chrysler transmissions were the ones that liked to blow up. The 5-speed is a Mercedes transmission and from what I have heard, pretty stout. The problem is the soft/lazy shifts, and the tame gearing for a "muscle" orientated vehicle. It might work for Mercedes, but not so much for Chrysler.

The shift's might be able to be firmed up via tuning, but I'll admit I'm not really familiar with tuning on Chryslers.

Drag racing - Auto - As much fun as slamming your own gears is, automatics can handle big power better and be much more consistent.

Track racing - Manual - Hands down

Street driven - Driver's preference *(if the manufacturer doesn't limit you to an auto), although I agree that high power 2 seat sport coupes should all be manual. If you can't drive stick you shouldn't be driving the car.

It looks worse than the current model. 4 doors just do not fit on that design at all. The Challenger has a very similar design with only 2 doors, and it looks much much better, IMO.
