OMG WTF?? I was sitting here thinking how cool it would be to actually watch some of this stuff live. NBC has to jump off a cliff.

By the way KT, I didnt know you were in Yaletown. I stayed at the Georgian Court hotel (across from BC Place) when I was visiting Vancouver. Walked through Yaletown a number of times.
 
The Games begin with the Opening Ceremony, telecast live from BC Place in Vancouver. The event honors the heritage of the host nation and also features the traditional parade of nations, the athletes' oath and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron. More than 2500 athletes from about 85 countries are expected to appear in the parade. Also: competition gets under way with ski jumping (normal-hill qualifying).

I think there's a ski jump qualifier this afternoon before the opening ceremony. Also, they're really tape-delaying the west coast when it could be live? That's fucking ridiculous. NBC makes such bad decisions. I'm glad they're losing money on this. Comcast SportsNet was ripping into them, because apparently they can use the word "olympics" on the air, but can't put the actual word in text on the screen. No highlights until the next day, and they're limited to 2 mins of video per 30 minute show. In short, NBC can go to hell.

I can't wait for hockey to start.

That's a convenient spot to stay, very central. There's not really much to do in Yaletown now since most of the restaurants suck now. In I rarely do anything in Yaletown anymore even though I live here.

The problem with Yaletown from be beginning is that at street level it's always had a cold detached feeling. Not sure they could have done it but if I had a choice I would have narrowed the streets and brought everything closer together. Then they should have made all the commercial real estate at street level single floor buildings and offset the high-rises back from the street. Make it feel a bit more like comercial street for example. As it stands it's just cold and uninviting.
 
Yep, NBC does suck. I complained about this shit two years ago during the Summer olympics. None of the events were covered except 'good stories' and US athletes. I want to see as many events as possible, the olympics are awesome!

And here I was excited to have it on the west coast so I could watch everything live. 🙁

I suppose the Olympics will coordinate the timing of all the big events so that they can be shown live on the US east coast in prime time, and the west coast (WHERE IT IS BEING HELD) will have everything on tape delay. So we can partially blame the Olympics for this (4:30 is a tad early for an opening ceremony).

Might as well have it in Austria or something if I can't watch anything live anyway. Bunch of clowns. 😡

Everything is expensive and the food is mediocre.

The new hot spot for food is Main street.

This is only happening in the, states, everything is live here in Western Canada.
 
For all you iphone folks there is a kick ass app "NBC Olympics". Easy to track your favorite events, times, athletes, tons of video, etc.

They also brought in way too many of the stupid chain restaurants.

Main is good and there are actually a couple of decent spots in Gastown.
