I believe it is the bestselling (perhaps #2?) smartphone out there, so I can't see why Verizon wouldn't be quite excited to get it.

They would be, but it's not like a couple years ago, when there wasn't really anything like it that they could sell instead. Now they got Droids, Incredibles, etc, so they can compete for a lot of potential iPhone customers. Having an iPhone would help bring people who already have an iPhone and like it over to VZW.

Yes. The iPhone would be very good for Verizon, and while total iPhone sales would rise, it wouldn't be proportional to what AT&T has now. It would be much better for Verizon than for Apple.

verizon will get iphone, att will lose a massive number of customers and android will drop down to 1% market share

haha 1%? I could see "they'd drop 1%", but to say "they'd drop TO 1%", that's just not true and you know it.

Apple sold 9 million iPhones last quarter, and you honestly think that adding Verizon as a carrier would only suck away customers from ATT?

What dimension do you actually live in? Because this one suggests a shitload of iPhones sold when the Verizon deal happens.

Oh Moose, didn't you know? Only people who like shiny things buy iPhones! The discerning consumer only buys Android phones!

Verizon made a deal with Apple?

Wasn't it some 8 million?

obviously they will sell a lot. it would raise their market share. however-it would definitely not be proportional to what they have on att. not only do a lot of verizon costumers already have a smart phone, a lot of sales would be att converts.

Meh, my lack of interest in the iPhone is complete. I preordered an Evo today.

The iPhone is slick, but now that there are legitimate alternatives to waiting a year for features other phones are getting now, it's suddenly not so cool anymore. The iPhone did change the smartphone market, brought them to the masses for real. The Android offerings are simply more interesting now, for the simple reason that carriers and handset makers are competing with each other for the best phone.

The iPhone does "just work" and is less conducive to tinkering, so my wife will probably always have one. In the end, that's the demo that Jobs is going for anyway - the 99% of the population that aren't techies.

Exactly.

After the N1, I'm a little reluctant to go with any more first gen cell phones though, I'm very jealous of you-all that are getting the Evo and have coverage :(

Honestly, I'd get the Evo even if I didn't have 4G available just yet. I'm mostly interested in the larger form factor - 4.3" screen, pretty decent processor, and the Android platform. I've been with Sprint for a while now, and their 3G network is pretty good here.

It's first gen for 4G, but definitely not for Android. I'm most interested in the latter.

TMobile is releasing an update tomorrow that's supposed to help some stability issues on the HD2 tomorrow.

I updated when the link was leaked, haven't noticed much difference.

Am also not real impressed with Bing Navigation so far, it's not anywhere near as good as Google's offering.

I installed the update when it was leaked. it has some good things. swype is decently improved, that's the biggest difference for me.

Bing navigation has some advantages over googles, and some disadvantages. most importantly, its a start, and better than the platforms that don't have any free navigation. bing has updated moderately frequently before this, so I expect improvements in the near future too.

Where did I say "only"

I dunno, but apparently not a dimension where people can actually read.
