I truly cant imagine that youre being honest. Youre probably just a partisan hack, but i dont know you. All i can imagine is that you were not watching the debate.

We'll see how Gov. Palin's Hockey/Joe Six-Pack/Just-Plain-Folks/Main-Street America persona plays out. She may have "won" the debate by not embarrassing herself, exceeding low expectations, and being unbearably cute and folksy.

"Good?" No. Mediocre? Sure. She was barely more than a figure head as mayor.

Spot on, sad, and (shiver) frightening! Sarah Palin could probably not even hold her own on our little dork loser political forum. :shocked:

Some observations:

Pros for Palin:

1. She did a pretty good job overall mastering the canned lines and understanding the issues at a superficial level;
2. She was very perky and upbeat. America likes salesmen/women;
3. She defined the debate as one about gauzy ideas, not facts, and that's good for Republicans;

Cons for Palin:

1. She constructs arguments out of ideas with an occasional fact sprinkled in;
2. She sounds very gauzy, which is also good as I've noted above, unless you like razor sharp responses, such as the ones given mostly by Biden;
3. She loses focus very quickly and didn't answer the question about her achilles heel for instance. By the time she finishes speaking you have trouble remembering the topic because she wanders in 40 different directions. One gets the idea, a cynical one, that she has been fed a list of canned responses. She feels the need to reach down into the can and grab one way too frequently;
4. She speaks in cliches and trite ideas. "The White Flag of Surrender" brought a guffaw from me, and I'm sure I wasn't alone.

Pros for Biden:

1. He answered and rebutted superbly, and remember, I utter loathe and despise Biden!
2. His command of the facts and history are excellent. His past is prologue comment was stunning for its simplicity and truth.

Cons for Biden:

1. That fake smile is very annoying;
2. Off camera he looked bored/annoyed a few times;
3. He was too deferential to Palin. Should have hammered her more, but I guess he was afraid to be the Biden I loathe. :)

Overall, a pretty good debate. I don't think Palin hurt McCain, and I think she isn't such a bimbo after all. She's not dumb, she's just very inexperienced and raw. She's no rocket scientist mind you, but we are only talking President of the United States, so anything over 100 IQ is adequate as we know. Palin is so naive, she will appeal to a lot of people, so I think McCain might get a small bump out of this debate. It will ease some people's mind as well.

-Robert
great summary.

I would add that I think Biden came away from the debate actually and surprisingly (to himself) impressed by Palin. It was neat to see him at the end there give her props.

With all those long sighs I can't say that was genuine. I can't imagine he respects her as a world leader.

I think only in the sense that she didn't melt down. If they weren't being graded on a curve Biden would be the clear winner.

Ultimately I think McCain sees a bounce from this though, because Palin was struggling terribly and this was somewhat redemptive.

EDIT: Should also mention that Obama may get a small boost as well because everyone forgot about Biden and he had a hell of a showing. It won't be as big as McCain's bounce but it will help.

And exactly the reverse on Drudge's site.
Haha, it does she won overwhelmingly on Drudge. I can only assume there is some bot or most drudge readers are morons. I actually use drudge as my key news portal, but I know a fvcked up debate when I see one. She lost, not as severely as Edwards to Cheney, but it was bad.

She'd make one folksy, believable spokesmodel. I see her, 30 years on, being the female Ed McMahon/Wilford Brimley on late night Social Security supplement and oatmeal commercials.

Doggone it, that's mmmmmm-mmmmmmm, GOOD! (Big smile.)

Just a touch of narcissism eh there Perk.

Both candidates did well. The only thing that stood out for me was Palin's statement that she took the words of the leader of Al-Qaeda over our military commander in Afghanistan. That was totally wrong. You must never validate your enemies words over your own countrymen.

Those long sighs where tinged with a little bit of adrenalin.

you could here the shakiness in his exhaling..

At the beginning of the debate where Palin's bangs in her hair were shaking like a leaf.

She settled down though about 10 mins into it.

good stuff.

I said Ifill was inappropriate and I maintain she was a bad pick. That said, she had so little overall input that her undeniably bias had no effect tonight that I saw.

In other words, she was as professional and impartial as all the Talk Radio partisans said she couldn't possibly be...

I tip my hat to whoever prepped Palin...that was easily better than anyone could have expected from her.
I will assume that from now on, there will be no more interviews though...

The very definition of narcissim would be being a Republican and yet continuing to support an additional four years of the last eight, Bo!

Deregulation and continued tax cuts for the ultra rich and Exxon, FUCK YEAH! ;)

Exactly. Just as valid and informative as most of his groups are.

The lefty fringe will think he killed her in the debate, the righty fringe will think she was awesome. The fact is that she held her own. Lets face it, everyone (right or left) expected her to get trounced. That simply did not happen. The expectations were way low for her, and she did herself a lot of good by simply doing a good job not making major mistakes.

It's just funny how those on the fringe think their political opinions are those of the average person......

McCain gets a bounce because his VP candidate wasn't quite the clueless idiot people perceived her to be while Biden had a hell of a showing? I sure hope not. Oh wait, this country elected GWB twice.

Edit: Forgot to say there's already a VP debate thread. :eek:

Yes. I wasn't sure how much real impact she'd have, but i said and do think it's valid that you cannot--or should not (apparently sometimes can, tonight case ni point) have a grossly impartial moderator for something like that. Water under the bridge in this case, though.
