Amazing...my GTO lease is up September 2006...should work out perfectly :p

Sounds nice...seen a few Solstices around here already...wonder when I'll hear one with a BOV.

I thought the Solstice was supposed to come out this year (2005). Why is there a new (GXP) version coming out before the initial one is released? Does anyone even own one yet?

2006 Pontiac Solstice
2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP

Read the title my friend :p

Yeah, I just think it's silly they are making a new version when the first hasn't even been released yet!

How is it silly? The standard Solstice is going to hit streets in a few months and GM is now putting the finishing touches on the HO version. Pretty standard procedure in the auto industry to always be working on something new.

When Chevy unveiled the C6, they were already in the final stages of developing the C6 Z06. Also, Lexus just unveiled the new IS250 and IS350. There are also spy shots of a running prototype of the V8 powered IS460...

This is normal procedure and his been for decades

As a prospective buyer of the Solstice, and owner of 2 GM vehicles, my hopes just got crushed.

Is that engine bay a freaking joke? Is that rat nest mess the best GM could possibly come up with for a car that is supposed to help save the company? Has GM not looked under the hood of almost any other new car on the market to see how neat and tidy engines bays should be for reliability and easy maintenence. Heck, the engine bay in my wife's Saturn is a jewel compared to that. That engine bay, right there, sums up everything that is wrong with GM, they just dance around with success, they never complete the job 100%.

IT'S A PREPRODUCTION MODEL. Ever think that maybe they have time to fix minor things like keeping the engine bay neat and tidy before they actally start selling the things?

That's a pretty little car. I'm liking it.
I really liked the Chevy SSR, it's a crying shame it's priced over twice what it's worth.
Maybe GM is getting a conscience.

Sorry but reworking the entire engine bay is not a "minor thing" that GM is going to suddenly get perfect at the last minute. Good design starts in the early design stages, so that when you put together the test car, it should not look like this. Obviously some of the wiring will likely be shoved into a looms, but I would not expect much more than that.

It's pussies like you that cause carmakers to cover everything with plastic. Jesus, if the tubes and cables are so unsightly to you, don't open the damn hood.

Try working on cars yourself and you would understand that everything you do around the engine is much easier if everything is laid out neatly. If I was never the type of person to open the hood, I would not care what the engine bay looked like.

So then, inform us...just how many preproduction car's development have you had a hand in that would allow you to make such a judgement? :disgust:

then obviously the only cars you will ever work on are pre 80's before they had computers in them. that was the time to work on them. i could sit in one w/ the engine in it.

but this car is sick. utterly sick.

and SilverTorch. why you say that? GM did everything on this car.

4th quarter 05, vs 4th quarter 06??? nearly ready?

and if IF gm wanted to botch a launch and throw out a vehicle that isnt what they NEED it to be then it would be out, but they want that thing perfect.

These cars are hand built for testing only. They don't bulid them to be pretty.

On a side note, I see parts my company produced :)

I'm also wary of how good the engine will be. I know that GM's been sponsoring their sport compact drag cars that do use turbos but their Saturn Redline and Cobalt SS are both supercharged. We'll see how strong the motor is... it may just be a tweaked version of the Saab turbo engines.

Its the Ecotec, GM has been using this motor for years. Its a potent motor in the right chassis.

I see sniperruff didn't waste any time to come and crap in this thread.
