I thought the Solstice was supposed to come out this year (2005). Why is there a new (GXP) version coming out before the initial one is released? Does anyone even own one yet?
2006 Pontiac Solstice
2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP
Read the title my friend![]()
Yeah, I just think it's silly they are making a new version when the first hasn't even been released yet!

IT'S A PREPRODUCTION MODEL. Ever think that maybe they have time to fix minor things like keeping the engine bay neat and tidy before they actally start selling the things?Originally posted by: brian_riendeau
As a prospective buyer of the Solstice, and owner of 2 GM vehicles, my hopes just got crushed.
Is that engine bay a freaking joke? Is that rat nest mess the best GM could possibly come up with for a car that is supposed to help save the company? Has GM not looked under the hood of almost any other new car on the market to see how neat and tidy engines bays should be for reliability and easy maintenence. Heck, the engine bay in my wife's Saturn is a jewel compared to that. That engine bay, right there, sums up everything that is wrong with GM, they just dance around with success, they never complete the job.

Sorry but reworking the entire engine bay is not a "minor thing" that GM is going to suddenly get perfect at the last minute. Good design starts in the early design stages, so that when you put together the test car, it should not look like this. Obviously some of the wiring will likely be shoved into a looms, but I would not expect much more than that.
It's pussies like you that cause carmakers to cover everything with plastic. Jesus, if the tubes and cables are so unsightly to you, don't open the damn hood.

Try working on cars yourself and you would understand that everything you do around the engine is much easier if everything is laid out neatly. If I was never the type of person to open the hood, I would not care what the engine bay looked like.

4th quarter 05, vs 4th quarter 06??? nearly ready?
and if IF gm wanted to botch a launch and throw out a vehicle that isnt what they NEED it to be then it would be out, but they want that thing perfect.

The Soltice looks ok for a GM product... I'm just hoping it has a stiff enough chassis and drives well... otherwise, that extra power is a total waste if you have a horrendous shake and twist as you go over small bumps and take corners aggressively.
I'm also wary of how good the engine will be. I know that GM's been sponsoring their sport compact drag cars that do use turbos but their Saturn Redline and Cobalt SS are both supercharged. We'll see how strong the motor is... it may just be a tweaked version of the Saab turbo engines.
