mazda did(intentional it seems) 'copy' the lotus. the lotus had a big rep as being 'the roadster' which mazda wanted. the miata 'concept' was "lets make a mazda lotus"

the solstice seems to be competition for a miata, the miata still looks like its going to win... just to much(decade+ of) design has gone into the miata for gm to break on to the scene like they would want.

the solstice is the best competition for the miata i've seen in recent years. name one roadster that has even come this close?

Toyota MR2? nah.

G6, GTO(bah)

both nice cars.

you obviously would buy a MB since their cars used to be reliable, and obviously still are :D

I would not have a Mercedes Benz for any reason, and the GTO is junk with a big engine. Ugly, GM had a chance for a homerun and simply hit a foul ball. GM makes nothing but junk anymore. They used to make some good cars but that was over 30 years ago. They go well with the Budweiser beer you like so much though....about on the same level.

Agreed.

I don't think I have seen one person driving around here with a Solstice that wasn't a 40+ year old balding male :(

Yes, dozens. I'm in SE Michigan. I am seeing new Impalas everyday. My wife just saw the Dodge Caliber last week. I have seen 2-3 C6 Z06's in the last week. In this area you see a lot of not-quite-out-yet cars.

So you're seeing engineers and corporate executives driving these cars?

Hardly representitive of it's target market.

Actually, A number of them were sold. My wife's knows a woman who has one. She isn't an exec and was going to sell it because she was afraid of the stick, but she kept it. :( I was going to jump on it too.

That's pretty funny, considering your (and others) comments in this thread.

The Solstice seems like a great car, though I'm not too fond of the interior design. I can't wait to see some head-to-head comparo's with the Miata.

I've seen at least 5 of em on road already. Theres one always parked at St. Joe's hospital in Ann Arbor.
Around here (SE michigan) we get a lot of prototype and camo cars ands such, though all the Solstices I've seen were fully registered and all (no dealer plates)

A red one went by me yesterday. At least they have their tops down.

I've seen a red one and bunch of black ones. Sharp looking cars imo

right, gm totally gets points for trying. what im really looking forward to is the next gen solstice. i think mazda kind of rested on their larules with the miata and now this gm roadster is competion to heat things up. but miata killer it is not(yet). i do think the solstice looks better or atleast more modern(which i like), miata still looks like its stuck in the early 90s(not any more, just read mazda picked up the guy who designed the solstice)

and thats just the point i think. what HAS been competition for the miata? not much. is it because the miatas so good? or that nobodys wanted to invest the bank needed to trade blows.

I don't understand this mentality. A carmaker (or in this case a brand) makes a brand new car. That brand happens to have sold (not made) crap for a couple decades, so somehow that means that the *brand new* car is a "polished turd". What is the turd here that is being polished? It's a brand new car on a brand new platform, and it's GREAT.

That sounds pretty sweet. I wonder if it'll be cheaper than the regular model (like Mitsu's Evo RS), and if it will bring the weight down near the Miata's.

They'd have to get rid of a lot of sh!t to lose between 300-400 lbs.

Miata vs. Solstice "comparisons" are in both the latest issues of C&D and R&T. If I recall, the Miata wins objectively, but they give the Solstice the subjective vote.
