I've always followed the "divide-by-2+then-add-7" rule... I'm not sure where I heard it first, but it really seems to give pretty good numbers. It works like this:
take the guy's age
divide it by 2
add 7 to this number
So,
(26/2) + 7 = 20. So, for a 26-year old guy, the youngest girl he could date would be 20.
The funny thing is my current g/f is >right< at the lower-age-limit. I was 24 when I met her (she was 19). It was actually a relief, 'cause the previous 3 girls I'd dated where 1.5, 3, then 6 years older than me... I was worried that doubling of age difference would continue... +12 years woulda been next!!
