Personally I can't go more then a two year age difference, but then again I'm 18 so that skews it a little, lol.

Oh, and if you want to talk about screwy relationships, try 18 year old girl dating a 14 year old guy, one of my friends was the guy... VERY strange.

yeah the % is big. Hes one lucky guy then and if the girl is nice even better:D

Like me I'm 18 and seeing a 2nd yr PhD student. Shes 23 in a few months. My mates are cool with it but her mates and her sister would be a bit different about it.........

I say if the pair involve can deal with it let it be.

do u folks really believe adult women are on average more 'mature' than men of equivalent age?

in what sense 'mature'?

i just think women WANT their 'ideal' man to have obtained more life 'credentials' sooner than a guy might for a woman, and even with that, men overall i dont think want to the same extent that women want on men.

so i don't think women are more 'mature' = controlled/think of consequences before acting etc. kind of mature, this comes more from I think conscience/morals/etc.

young interns at work... we have a big helpdesk.... so when we get a new batch, the 3rd level techs gets the first pick...
then 2nd level....etc

poor saps at helpdesk get the left over fat chicks and the ones 2nd level techs dated and dumped.

Okay here's my take on this FWIW:

The younger female half of this equation views herself as "more mature" than her peers and therefore wishes to be with someone older who is theoretically more mature (although I know some astoundingly infantile 30-somethings). Not only is he a more "mature" person, he will also likely have things like: a decent car, spending money for dinners out, a residence containing something other than cinderblock shelving and futon furniture. He may even be a better lover than her 20 year-old peers as he has likely had a few partners by now and hopefully knows what the hell he's doing. (Makes me thing of a bit on sex tips from one of Matt Groenig's "Hell" books....."Rember the clitoris this time, stupid!!") The money thing may or may not be a gold-digging thing depending on who's involved...more likely it's just nice to have relatively more loot than a 20 year-old so you can do things like go out for a nice dinner, trips, etc....stuff that is a "very special occasion" for the average 20 year-old guy.

The older male half of this equation I don't really get at all besides the obvious (he gets to have sex with a 20 year old woman). 20 and 30 are such different points in a person's life, I don't see how the two could get along at all. He's got a job, career, mortgage, etc and she's just worried about passing Bio 201. <shrug>

They get tired of playing with boys.....

It makes perfect sence to me.

And yes, women do mature sooner than those thier same age.

I don't understand why some 20yr old women go out with 20yr old boys.....

That just seems like a big waste to me.

Over & out.

You asked :)

My husband is 15 years older than me. I knew him for a while before learning this, as he looks *much* younger. I had to ID him to verify. Most people don't realize there's much of an age difference, so that's never been an issue. I do worry about the distant, distant future. Otherwise, no problems :)

My dad is 58, my mom is 46.. been married for 19 years now.

I don't think age matters as long as there's love there and the people are at least mature enough to recognize if they're in love or just finding some sort of fatherly/motherly figure, etc.. That's just me though.

<< Oh yeah, and chicks dig scars... by 30 you have most of the scars that you are ever gonna have. >>

You have no idea how pissed off I was when I discovered that the scars on my lower leg were disappearing. I had a bike accident on gravel, so I had the coolest criss-crossing scar pattern going on. You could really see it in the summer when I got a tan. The scars would stay white while the rest of me tanned, but they weren't raised up at all, so the texture on my skin wasnt screwed up. Sadly, I did took my slide in the gravel too young, and after about 4 years they have almost totally disappeared. The spot on my arm where a rock rolled under the skin that day has still got its scar, though.

<< i had a friend in high school (around 16) who was dating a 30+ year old man. it was weird to say the least. she hid it from us for a long time. she's a pretty normal girl too, good grades in school, etc. their relationship didn't last tho. but it did for months. >>

Your friend wouldn't happen to be named Julie would it? My step sister went through the exact same thing before her mom and my dad met. It was definitely a weird thing to comprehend when I was told about it. I'd say 20 dating a 30 year old is fine as long as they enjoy each others company, hell I'm 20 and I've dated a 28 year old woman before (not for very long though I'm sad to say)

i don't think age really matters all that much. in my family, my aunt married a man she met at church who is nine years younger than her. i think it takes a lot of maturity on his part to do that. so then, i think we are biased to say that women do it just because of money or security, when if it were the woman that was older, we would say that the man is being mature about it. whatever happened to the whole concept of love? some marriages are economical, but i prefer mine to be grounded in love (granted the degree varies from couple to couple).

Some of you-all have parents, or spouses with the >10 year age difference, have any of them retired? I've heard it can be stressful on the relationship when the older partner retires & the younger one still works, older one wants to go on long trips & is held back by younger, working spouse, etc...

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one.

I'm a college student (i.e. 19, no money) but am dating a wonderful woman in which I just celebrated her 32nd birthday less than a month ago.

It can work the other way around too. I have dated a couple (read = 3) girls younger than me and none of them lasted until the 3rd date. My only ex was also older than me and we were together for 18 months. I have been with my current gf for about 7 - 8 months.

Our relationship is very open and we are not financially dependent on each other, and would like to keep it that way.
