Effing -16 C again this week... Spent Saturday taking the pockets out of a pair of sweatpants so I actually have thermals to wear. Legs were about to fall off this past week when it hit -24 C.

Time to move to Vancouver or Florida.

And this is why I pay a lot for rent. It might be under 50 in LA tonight. With wind chill will feel 48. Might have to wear a jacket
Within 10 miles of me, there are a couple thousand people, if that. Wild estimate: More than 95% of them are decent, nice people. You would have to pay me to live in LA.

True. I also believe that high population density is responsible for a multitude of crazy folks. Why people are so blind to this, I'll never know. The ultimate in idiocracy is building large 5000 + student high schools in cities that are over crowded to begin with. Small wonder they have metal detectors and their own police force.

Wuss, think of it, nothing but you and the searing bite of glacial beauty. Black but for the azure glint off the frozen snow pack. The gentle hum of the street light reminding you that you are the last living organism on the planet.

Now we're talking  Something about the brutal cold and the feeling you get when you are layered up in protective clothing and still feel warm and safe despite the dangerous elements you are standing in. You could be standing in the same spot all alone but during the summer time, yet the sense of isolation is strongest during winter.

I called off tomorrow too, eff that. Not only is school canceled for the day (keeping the kids home anyway), but there isn't a single telephone pole in Chicagoland worth climbing tomorrow.

I hear ya. Working today but off the next 2 days. Definitely sounds like a stay inside and play xbox/take care of the kid type of "weekend". Maybe not in that order. :D

I'd come visit, but my tires would freeze solid and I highly doubt the roads are plowed judging by all my nearby streets.

I'm in Vancouver right now... I spotted a few cherry trees with very early buds on them this week :)

-12 in one of the bible belt states.
Must be God's wrath for heterosexual marriage. Damn straights going to spoil everything. End the world. :D

As John Lennon might say, IMAGINE if the earth moved away from the sun just enough for this to be the normal world wide?
Wonder how long civilization would last?
Even if the cold didn't kill us off, having day after day after day of sub zero temps FOREVER MORE would drive people INSANE!
Imagine no more green grass, green trees, no sun bathing at the beach, Just snow snow snow ice ice ice, winter coats, and the riots as the food supply dwindles to nothing except for snow cones and popsicles.
All you'd get from McDonalds would be Big Pop, Icy Tenders, Ice Tea.

God I love Colorado's new legalized weed... Makes one think deep thoughts. Just like John.

I sure picked a lovely year to become a home owner! Haha...at least I got a fireplace to help supplement the furnace...

Temps like this aren't abnormal for the area, that's for sure. However, the frequency of these subzero temps is not nearly as common, IMHO. At least, that I can recollect. I remember far more warmer winters and more snow as a child growing up in the area.

I can't help but wonder if this area of the world incurs some of the craziest temperature swings of nearly 200F, factoring in wind chill and heat index. In 2011, if I'm not mistaken, we tied the world record for heat index of 134F...And now we are flirting with -60F.

MN here.

I have two cars, one in the garage and one outside.

I drove the outside car in and it sounded like a WW2 machine when it started up.. But it turned over no problem.

It was -25f this morning. It was -28f last week. Not as bad as I thought it would be.

Wasn't too windy when I came into the office, but I could tell the wind was picking up.

You know it's cold though when your hand freezes to the metal doorknob at your house and the car handle opening your car. Not enough to rip skin but enough to notice.

Got down to -40 without windchill once when I lived in North Dakota. Didn't feel too bad, once you get below a certain point you can't really tell the difference any more.
