Remember, the people of England are subjects, not citizens. They ultimately have no say in how the government controls their life.

Is this website the British version of The Onion? That's just unbelievable.

If not, haven't the British read "1984"? WTF is a "Shadow Home Secretary"? This is beyond creepy.

Just close your eyes and chant, "There is no slippery slope. There is no slippery slope. There is no slippery slope. "

I know I'm an American and should probably keep my mouth shut. As a history teacher in the US, I have a few maxims I expect our kids to learn. One of those maxims is that trends in Europe in general and the UK in particular are about a generation ahead of things in the US, be it the industrial revolution, outlawing slavery, voting rights, or what have you.

Many times in history, the UK (I hope I'm using the right term) has stood as the model for freedom from tyranny and as an active opponent to that tyranny. Should I be looking at changing my lesson plans?

Freedom from false charges by a dictatorship or otherwise requite full public access to the real facts.

The only solution is total information recording that is totally confidential and cannot be accessed except for defense.

We will have AI likely by 2029 if Moore's Law holds up and the flops estimated to be required are correct.

Perhaps we can ask the machines how they can insure this then.

I, for one, welcome our new SkyNet Overlords.

I mean this is some creepy stuff and has scary implications, but doesn't essentially stealing people's kids and putting them into foster care a far worse invasion of rights? This is assuming both situations involve the same level of parental neglect/danger.

If this program is an alternative to mandatory foster care then it is a relaxation of the invasion of people's rights in my opinion.

I really don't even know what to say.....

Such policies are coming to America.

Fear-mongering at its best.

I really don't double it that it might come to any "western nation". This is insanity, I don't know how the government can get away with this kind of BS excuse and some of you accept it like a bunch of sheep of the state. :|

denial! denial! denial!

Personally I find this disgusting. One the infrastructure for in home monitoring is perfected on the "worst" families it is only a matter of time until it is rolled out to other groups.

Also the police that monitor and can barge in if the camera reveals anything seem like an eerie Gestapo.

All I can say, as I've seen elsewhere once before is this piece of advice:

Get the fuck out of England while there isn't a 30ft concrete wall preventing you from doing so.

What? It's for the children. Shirley you care about the children.

What's the matter Dave? You should love this program. From what I can tell it's the invention of the Labour party, the UK equivalent of the Democrats.

Oh I absolutely love it.

The faster this gets installed in Republican houses like yours the faster I will be happy. :D

Well, I wouldn't breakout out the 1984 comparisons just yet. This seems an alternative to just removing Children from home and sending them to Foster Care. Almost like a form of House Arrest that keeps families together. I'd wait to see the results of such a Program.

The end justifies the mean right?

What is this "End" you speak of? Exactly what is "Wrong" with this situation other than it being something mentioned in a Science Fiction book at one time?

So long as it keeps families together and children out of foster homes it's just right?

Are you as indifferent to this as you are wiretapping's and torture?

Why not? Do you think it's better to rip families apart than to perhaps fix a family so they can stay together?

If by "fix" you mean acting accordingly under conditioning.

Should we install 24 hour surveillance camera's in kitchens of the Obese? They be less likely to indulge themselves, so it's ok by your logic.

Being obese isn't criminal. Neglecting your kids is.

So is smoking pot.

Therefore, anyone whom has been convicted of possession of marijuana ought to be monitored.

Think of the children.

Most jobs these days have drug testing (including marijuana) as a condition of employment.
Pot users are being monitored in a sense.

The wife of a friend of mine was pregnant and had to be drug tested as part of some state bs. She had smoked pot occasionally during her pregnancy, but didn't use tobacco or alcohol. The state workers told her that if her baby tested positive for marijuana, they would institute proceedings to take away her baby, get her in trouble, etc...

End result, the baby tested negative for the presence of drugs, and they had to shut up.

I agree, a lot of this nanny state stuff is nonsense, and needs to stop. For instance, red-light cameras are being put up everywhere, and that needs to be stopped.

Right hopefully you've all got your faux outrage out of the way, or perhaps you use this as a kind of therapy to avoid criticizing your own country.

This is going to be used as a last resort for familys at the end of the line. Its one additional step before the state steps in and removes children from their home.

I cant believe some of you think this is more authoritarian than the removal of children from their families (something this is supposed to avoid).

And at the end of the day it will be voluntary. Don't want the cameras, don't have them then and let your children go into care.

I don't think you understand how you sound...

what you say doesn't sound comforting at all to me

a program like this SHOULD be subject to extreme scrutiny..even if it may (arguably) be better than the alternative

It's ok Dave, "they" are watching you patiently. :p

Well hell I installed the equipment. I know it works.

So you're a traitor?

If Dave is the person the "traitorous" faction has to rely on to get things done, I feel better sleeping at night. ;)
