You're probably right. Look at the stats from 1980 they were much higher. The guy is claiming to have gone within the last year or so and having had 32 in 2 years. He's full of it

Yeah, the book was geared towards early/mid 80's.

Either way, this guy is full of shit...death in a prison is one of those stats that can't be faked IMO. It's not like being raped/assaulted in prison, you don't have to report that...there is no 'dark figure'.
 
I read it, but it was all narrated in Morgan Freeman's voice, in my mind.

You gotta remember that the information one gets in prison is not 100% accurate. He very well may believe that 32 guys died because that's what the grapevine said.

If the rumor mill says that Big Joe "got a hole dug in him," that information circulates around the yard as fact, when in reality, Big Joe got stitched up and transfered to another cell block.
 
Damn, that was an interesting yet sad read. I just never really thought about the horrors of jail, but that really put it into perspective.

It's funny as I sometimes catch a show called "breakout" and it's about prisoners escaping. I tend to vouch for them, but then have to remember, they put themselves there in first place. So can't feel too sorry for them. In fact some have really genius plans to escape and make it out, then they blow it by doing crime right away. WTF? You'd think they'd learn the first time and chose to lead a better life.


Hopefully the guy in this case will have learned and lead a better rest of life. If 2 years was long, imagine 25 years or life...
 
He sounds like a prisoner. After working in two different prisons. I can guarantee you one thing, after two years, he's at best a petty thief. At worst he's a predator looking to get back inside. Our prisons teach people to become lifelong criminals VERY well.

That's a good point. I doubt they fill prisoners in on whether a guy is dead or not.

You are both confused, the inmates almost always have better info than the guards. The only time it's different is when there's a lock down and the riot squad is called in to perform a specific mission. Inmates are transferred all the time, the general population knows very well who, what, and where has happened at other facilities.
 
Anyone think that maybe, just maybe, most of the "murders" in prison aren't accurately reported as such for fear of reprisals or because of a complete lack of cooperation with witnesses and perpetrators? I'm just throwing that out there.

I shared this story before and I'm too lazy right now to write another one so I found it and copied it for ya'lls entertainment.

Well I was in a cell( I forget what we called them they were big rooms that had bunks with like 25 guys to each section) there was a black guy everyone called Bubba. He was picking fights with everyone kicking peoples asses.

One day he just figured he had it in for me so he started fucking with me. Then one day I walked past him and he said "I'm gonna let you make it until after Christmas". I was tired of his shit so I turned and said "What are you waiting for?" I got knocked clean out and hit my head against the concrete. My head hurt so bad I could barely sleep that night.

Well I figured that was that he had kicked my ass so he will leave me alone now. I was wrong. One night I saw Bubba talking to a group of guys and they were looking at me. I knew something was up. He came and asked if he could have some of my food. I said no if I would of agreed he would of just kept eating my soups and shit. Then he said "I'll just take them". He then proceeded to open my bunk drawer and taking shit. I had no choice but to fight him again.

Well he kicked my ass again and then his friend came and was wanting to fight me next. I fought his friend until some guys finally broke us up. I think I got the better of that exchange.

Eventually if you get caught breaking the rules enough they send all the worst inmates to a pod together. It was F4-D.
Each pod was labeled a certain way and that is the only name I can remember. You always saw guys getting taken out on stretchers from F4D when you looked out at it when we were at rec or the guards getting all geared up in swat team stuff heading in there pretty often. Put it this way that was the last place you want to be.
Instead of full meals on a tray they will put it in a blender and bake it and serve it to you in F4D. It was a food loaf. Well Bubba eventually got sent to F4D and he met his match. From the talk around the prison there was a bad ass black dude that went one by one going through the whole dorm on different days and fight each person in there. He would just tap on your bunk that day and they knew it was their turn to fight him.

I heard Bubba ended up fighting the guy and he was care-flighted out.

I spent 3 years in prison, im not going to read all that foul language bs. i had several different charges so i had high level security for sometime until i was sentenced on all my charges.

I was just trying to remember all the places they kept me in and im not even sure if i can.
i know i was in jackson, hiawatha and carson city. and guess what, they all had weight pits.
