Is a reseller account only for resell webhosting deals?

A reseller account allows you to become your own 'business' and resell web space, where you become the 'hoster' without all the work.

Example: I currently have the small reseller package, with up to 10 domains. If i wanted, i could host 10 domains and charge each person $10 per month.

Honestly though, most, including myself, own a reseller account to host a few domains i own, and for a few family members. It keeps costs low, and i have more control as a reseller than i would as just having one site hosted.

I bit on this deal today. Not losing much at $20/yr and it will be good space to host some pics for the friends and family.

Thanks for the deal.

Where is the DOMAIN RESELLER option? I want to have a RESELLER ACCOUNT, but want to be able to sell domains as well. I remember it being on their site yesterday......it's just gone today though.

I read through this thread earlier in October, but I still have a question. I currently have the "Small Site Hosting" with Dixiesys but I would like to upgrade to the "Small Reseller" plan so I can buy an additional domain name and share the 800 MB between the two domains. Can I upgrade to the "Small Reseller," with Dixiesys moving my current domain into my reseller plan and without my having to reupload all of my data?

Here is the domain reseller page. However, if you try to signup, the following text is presented:
Note: due to recent changes with Enom's sub reseller policy this offer is temporarily not available. As soon as this new policy is confirmed as fact or fiction will determine if we can continue to offer Domain reseller accounts at all. We apologize for the confusion and lack of concrete facts at this time but as soon as we know for sure we'll act on the information when we know what it truly is.

The word is, the best pricing that can be set is $8.95 per domain, if that's so it's hardly competitive.

Here's the response from Gary on this issue which can be found in the thread over at Dixiesys:

Normally yes, reseller servers are different physical machines from web hosting servers, and there aren't (or shouldn't be) any mentions of dixiesys anywhere on them.

However if you don't care that people will connect to www16.dixiesys.com to update their email password/etc and you're mainly using this as a personal plan, then sure, we can modify your existing plan to be a reseller, it's your call.
So essentially, it doesn't look like you have to move as long as you notify them about your request.

So is it better to have a reseller account instead of having just one webhosting account if at a later date I wanted to create another website and share the space and bandwith between the two sites? Also how does this (what catrats posted) affect me if I wanted to do a reseller account.

alm99: Sorry for the confusion. The text I posted refers to those that wanted to resell domains through Dixesys, not web hosting. It was a response to an earlier message by RedlineSys.

As to your question: if your site doesn't use the entire storage space or transfer limit of your individual plan and you plan to have more than one site, I think you should consider getting a reseller plan. For example, with the $3.95/month (Small Site Hosting) plan, if you don't see your site using 200MB of space or generating 3000MB of traffic each month, I would recommend that you look into the reseller option since you mentioned the possibility of more web sites in the future.

I hope this answers your question. :)

apparently there is thing where you can subscribe and gets much faster, but I have no idea how much it costs, just to lazy to look. it only gets really slow in the afternoon.

Thanks catsrats for clearing that up

I signed up this morning but still haven't received any info from them. I got my receipt that the charge went through, but I still haven't gotten a message with the ftp/login information, nameserver info, etc. I only purchased hosting since I allready have a couple domain names. I'm guessing they are slow today with the sale. But if someone else that signed up today has allready gotten their info, please let me know so I can send them a message. Maybe I'm just being impatient, but I thought I'd have the info by the end of work today. BTW, I signed up around 9:30am EST.

Thanks.

I signed up for the 2 for 1 $19.95 special...20 minutes later I had my confirmation e-mails...had DNS propagation about 8 hours after that.

What a deal! I'm gonna wait a few days before I ping them with a mysql set-up. I figure they are gonna be busy these first few days.

I signed up around 10pm PST last night and still have not recieved any information. I'm sure they are getting slammed, so I'll just have to test my patience, hehe. BTW, I went through www.godaddy.com to register my domain and paid $6 more to keep my info private. Was that a smart thing to do, or am I just paranoid? Anywho, this will be my first experience building and maintaining a site, so I have lots to learn. :D

I ordered with them at about 12:30am Eastern time on the 15th and still haven't got my confirmation email as of 7:30PM, so they are definitely backed up because of this sale. On their forum they are estimating 24 hour turn around during this sale instead of the normal 12 hour.
