Yeah I know but it's an excellent bargain. I would go for the free double upgrade, the $20 and $40 annual plans seem to offer the most bang for your buck.

Sorry, quick question. I was interested in doing the reseller hosting plan, but I'm unaware how it works. Like management-wise and what not. And how does your clients use the sites that you order? Please fill in all the gaps :D. Thanks ;).

Dixiesys for the most part has been very good to me, but lately my website has been getting sloooooooooooooow. i don't know if it's just the particular server on or whaaaaaat...

funny thing is, i also have a rackshack server on the same block as the cobalt server that Gary runs his off of, but I don't know why his cobalt is so slow? mebbe someone is doing some massive file transfers on his 24/7 i dunno

reliability and cost.
If thats only whats important to you then i guess they are a good choice.

However, speed is definitely lacking here.
My past 3 webhosts were at least consistently 2x faster.
Since i have streaming videos on my site, speed was important for me.
I have since been moved 2-3times within Dixiesys servers and they are all
pretty much slooowWW so if speed is important to you, you might wanna
look elsewhere. I'm guessing they pack quite a lot of us in them servers
or the sustained bandwidth is just not quite up there.

I am in the same boat as you i signed up on monday but when i contacted GARY he said they will not the only way is in a month cancell and resubscribe again that will give you double.

I have alway heard about their great service but with this, the slow activation time, and a few other things i am starting to wonder about them. I think they are getting big now and dont care about custo's anymore (like ebay, paypal, newegg who used to have great service now they dont give a crap)

I've been with Dixiesys for 2 months now and the service has been horrible. They are down almost every weekend -- often for the whole weekend. Last Saturday my site was working but theirs was down (www.dixiesys.com). By Sunday they had their web page back up but their forums and most importantly, my cpanel remained down for the entire weekend.

The weekend before, they just shut down the entire operation to save electricity. Had everything turned off for the entire weekend. My site, their site, everything. On Monday they turned the servers back on and posted a note in the forum saying that they're kinda sorry about turning off the servers all weekend and they would have emailed everyone in advance but they haven't figured out how to send emails yet.

The weekend before that, every password in every client's SQL database was "accidentally" erased. They might have sent an email to everyone explaining what happened, but since they don't know how, I spent the better part of an hour trying to figure out why my site was down before finding the solution in the forums.

When they are working, the service is maybe half the speed of Cyberwings and the cpanel is so terribly slow it's almost unusable. Other than all that, I've been really happy with them.

I'm another happy DixieSys customer. So far, their service has been impecable, and even things that didn't really need to be handled quickly have been taken care of in less than 24 hours.

I would definately recommend them. As long as they stay on top of the user/server ratio, it seems like a win-win scenario for everyone.

Well, someone's got to respond to the gripe :)

Yes, lately the up-time has been kind of lacking. I heard there was a DOS-style hack/attack that was flooding their routers, and that it took them awhile to get it under control. On top of that, they're trying to move servers, which I'm sure isn't the simplest task in the world.

However, like many others, on the whole I've had a great experience dealing with Dixiesys. I signed up with their July 2-for-1 deal, then about a month ago added a 3rd account. I've never failed to get a response with any question, even during their router problems last week. I'm a satisified customer thus far, and I don't expect Dixiesys to let me down.

sidenote: I'm not running a business on any of these sites - they are personal/hobby/non-profit sites. Perhaps if my livelihood was dependent upon 100% uptime, I'd feel differently. But for the price and the features offered, I don't think there's a better deal out there (IMHO).

OK i'm confused on how this works a little

I have the $4 a month plan

Does this mean I can upgrade to the next highest plan on Oct 15th and still only pay $4 a month for it?

You nailed it and I totally agree. I wouldn't host an eCommerce business website on Dixiesys but for personal/family/hobby website space you cannot beat what Dixiesys has to offer. Their tech support has been great, I think Gary and his employees put 110% into their company ... I just hope they can control the growth ...

So....if you get this, do you have double space and bandwidth, does it stay doubled at that price for life? If so, I might jump on it...but I've been burned by cyberwings...(I missed the last 2 for 1 because I was still naive enough to see if I could get my site "rebuilt"...haha.), but I remember this site ever since I saw the post about 3-95.com, I almost got in on that one. I still own my domain...it's being hosted for free at a cool site that gives you 10 megs and 100 megs transfer for free, but that's a very temporary solution.

Ok, sorry but they are not down almost every weekend, hardly ever for that matter. Hahaha, saving electricity, thats pretty darn funny!

The reason the passwords was erased is that gary is moving servers into a better datacenter that he can access 24/7 instead of only 5 days a week with the old datacenter. There are other reasons too but this is a main concern.

Give em a chance, they aren't the fastest but they are definately not the slowest out there by any means. I find the control panel to work very fast, maybe you should get off that 56k;)

Cyberwings is long gone while Dixiesys is still here;) :D:D:D

If you are so concerned with hosting, colocate a server and then go biatch about how $$ that is somewhere else. I'm hosting a business site with dixiesys. Although its just a small side business, uptime is still very important. What more could you ask for the price of this deal?

just like to add my .02 here; dixiesys hosts one of my websites and is also my backup 56k dialup ISP. for the most part, i've been pretty happy with their service. i do time out sometimes while trying to get my mail via IMAP; but IMAP can be horribly slow synching. on the subject of slow... i wouldn't say that they're really s-l-o-w, they're just not really fast. video streaming off their servers is alright so long as you're not supporting a buttload of simultaneous high-bandwidth streams at once. i've had them host some wmf/asf files for me in the past and i've had no problems viewing them. for the price, service, and relatively good uptime, i'd highly reccommend them. while there are faster, more reliable webhosting companies out there (ie. Hostway which hosts some of my other sites), you also pay a premium price for their services as well.

damn I missed the July sale so I ended up getting my domain in August. Oh well, it's still a great price and great deal.

My domain is hosted on www16, so far I have been happy with ensim. The speed has been great, and aside from a small downtime (which was scheduled) the other week I haven't had any other problems.

Forgive my bitterness. I just can't believe that all these hosting companies keep skipping from town to town every time the rent is due. Hosting companies should never move. Ever. Duh! Not only are these bozos bouncing from one eviction to the next, they think it's normal! So normal in fact, that they don't even bother to let their customers know when they're planning to pack all the servers into an old Volkswagen for a weekend road trip.

Lost passwords from a move? I've moved a few times in my day. Haven't lost any passwords. Maybe I'm just more careful than most?

Anyway, yeah they're inexpensive, but the performance is deplorable by any standard. At least with Cyberwings I got 4 months of great hosting for my $3 (then again, they eventually lost my passwords too  )

actually, i thought the db password reset was due to a server patch?

regarding the move, dixiesys is moving because gary will have better access to the servers if need be. at the current location, he only has access to them like 8-5 monday thru friday (it's something like that. im too lazy to check). at the new dc, he will have unlimited access to the servers 24/7 (no biometric handprint needed like *ahem* some defunct hosting company :p) which will better serve his customers.

other than the outages of late with the prolonged move of server 12, and from those DOS attacks where he had to patch things up, i've received excellent uptime from my site (though it is not live yet, i check it often for connectivity, plus i use internetseer that checks every hour for uptime).

i've had my site hosted at dixiesys since mid-july, and can vouch thru my internetseer logs that uptime has been great upto the past few weeks with the move/problems. you make it seem worse that it really was.. unless it is server specific. which server are you on?
