Its sad in that these types of things are going to affect a much wider community then was actually guilty.

Abulhassan and Houssaiky admitted buying about 600 phones in recent months at stores in southeast Ohio, said sheriff's Maj. John Winstanley. They sold the phones to someone in Dearborn, Winstanley said

Deputies stopped Osama Sabhi Abulhassan, 20, and Ali Houssaiky, 20, both of Dearborn, Mich., on a traffic violation Tuesday and found the flight documents along with $11,000 cash and 12 phones in their car, Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks said.

Abulhassan and Houssaiky admitted buying about 600 phones in recent months at stores in southeast Ohio, said sheriff's Maj. John Winstanley. They sold the phones to someone in Dearborn, a Detroit suburb, Winstanley said.

Vessels declined to say how the phones, cash or flight information involved terrorism.

The indictment alleges that Imad Hammoud, along with his partner, Hassan Makki, ran a multi-million dollar per year contraband cigarette-trafficking organization headquartered in the Dearborn, Mich., area between 1996 and 2002. Makki pleaded guilty in 2003 in federal district court in Detroit to racketeering and providing material support to Hezbollah.

An illegal immigrant from Lebanon was sentenced Tuesday to 4 1/2 years in prison for conspiring to raise money for the Islamic militant group Hezbollah, which the United States has designated a terrorist group.

Mahmoud Youssef Kourani, 34, pleaded guilty in March to conspiring to support a terrorist organization. Kourani was accused of hosting fund-raising meetings at his home in suburban Detroit in 2002, at which a Hezbollah representative spoke.

He faced up to 15 years but a plea deal called for him to receive no more than five.

I grew up in Michigan, spent a lot of time in Dearborn (lots of fantastic restaurants), and had a lot of friends & acquiantances from Dearborn at U of M. Almost all of them were 'good' Americans who worked hard, appreciated their freedoms as much as any other American, and had the same reaction I did on 9/11 (the only time UMich has cancelled classes in a loooong time). I can't say I'm surprised there are a few bad apples in Dearborn, but it's disheartening to hear of such insanity happening in my home State. I'm usually quite liberal & blame our government's idiotic policies for much of the current 'war against Islamic fascism' or whatever it's being called now, but continued bullsh!t like this is making me think long and hard about such nasty things as profiling, wire tapping, and turning large amounts of the Middle East into glass.

Every two bit Muslim who gets caught supporting some two bit ME group is not proof of some massive world war. They are breaking laws and are prosecuted by their peers. End of story. I know with the Cold War being over you need a new cause to spread fear to grab power and justify military spending, but waging traditional war on a political tool (terrorism) is stupid. You want to end terrorist recruiting? Tanks and bombs won't do it. You need education, economic growth, end occupations, etc. But I'm sure this is all over your simple head, "blow them up" is more for your ilk.

Unfortunately buying 10 or 1000 cell phones is not illegal in any state. Nor is reselling the phones. Feel free to find a state law that says otherwise.

The money laundering charges are interesting though. I'm curious to see where they were recieving and how they were converting the dirty money.

With the current evidence against them, they'll be out in 18 months.

No, terrorism consists of conventional soldiers taking off their uniforms so they aren?t easily identified and then proceed to wage war against and from within civilian populations. An advent born from the simple fact that any solider WITH their uniforms could be identified and killed.

Stop right there. How do you propose solutions for something you deny exists? You mock the capture of Hezbollah and other terrorist agents inside the USA. You claim it?s not connected, you keep on minimizing the threat but now you?re telling me all about solutions?

First identify the problem and recognize it for what it is before you rush ahead to presume how to fix it. I?ve not brought up solutions in this thread; I?m debunking your mockery and mitigation of the entire situation.

This is a war that is global and without borders. Borne from the ideology that we should all die. It is being waged right here at home as well as abroad.

You live in a scary self made world, I'm glad the rest of us don't tremble and yell in fear the way you do, otherwise the real terrorist have already won. The point of terrorism is to instill doubt and fear in a government. You behave the way they want, pure emotion and fear. You see a boogieman around every corner and hiding in every building, the rest of us see some small number of whackjobs trying to plot stuff beyond their means and getting caught.

Sounds to me these two guys were just buying discounted phones and then making a profit off them. Since they happen to be Arabs I guess it makes them easy scapegoats for terrorism.

My friends and I have done something like that in in 2002 - we got about 150 cell phones because they were $5 a pop with no contract. Later on sold for 200% + profit.

US phones can work fine anywhere in the world. Most of the world laughs at our pathetic cellular system, but GSM is worldwide. Any GSM phone you can use on Cingular / T - Mobile, and others can be used anywhere in the world a GSM band is availible (several bands availible, and many phones can access all bands). Gee what could the "G" in GSM stand for? Global perhaps?

And no offense but whats with the Dearbornistan headline as someone who lives just a few minutes from there I'm honestly offended by that. Just because a large population of Arabs lives there doesn't mean you have to slam the name of the town they live in. Lots of great restaurants(middle eastern food is amazing) and lots of great people.

A few bad apples doesnt ruin the crop man. Consider something less borderline racist for a headline.

True that. Having been born and raised here I can honestly say that Dearborn is a great place to live so long as you stay west of Greenfield 😉 Lots of culture in this city for sure. The OP is just being a fool with that headline. Nothing new to see here.
