Insurance for bikes is cheap where I live. Friend has a Hayabusa and his insurance is $266 for a full year. I asked my insurance company what my rate would be for a GSX-R1000 and it was $346 for a full year for me. This is just liability though and not full coverage.
Insurance on my standard is $130 per year for full coverage including property damage and six-figure medical. So you're paying only a bit less than 3 times the amount I'm paying and getting maybe 1/3 the coverage. I'd say that's expensive.

What kind of car do you drive and what insurance company do you have? I'd kill to get $130/full coverage for a full year. I pay $530/year for just liability on my truck.
That's for my motorcycle. I pay much, much, much more for full coverage on my car. For my car, I pay more every 6 months than you pay per year for your truck. (22 year old with a 290 HP car.)

Ah OK...I was just stating to the previous poster that insurance was cheaper for bikes than it was for cars. The previous poster made it sound like insurance for bikes was expensive (when it's actually cheaper than for cars). Your post does back up what I say though in that motorcycle insurance is cheaper than for regular automobiles.

Ah, yeah. I thought he was saying that sportbikes weren't expensive. They're much more expensive than a cruiser or a standard.

and if you're scared of them, please do stay on 4 wheels or more - thank you!!
Just because some of us are intelligent enough not to ride our cycles at 100+ mph on indifferently-maintained public roads instead of on a track does not mean we're scared of our bikes.

I repeat, it's the dumbass young punks speeding down the freeway and driving between the lanes who give the rest of us riders a bad name. If you want to go that fast, there are these places called racetracks that are set aside for that purpose and designed so that when you lose it you don't smoke some innocent family coming back from vacation.

Where did I say I condoned their behaviour?

I wouldn't have done what they did on their bikes, but I may have done such a thing on a deserted road out in BFE before. I would love to go to a track and ride but it is cost prohibitive and the closest one is about 3 and a half hours away. So back canyon roads have to do.

I do not ride crazy around other cars or pedestrians. In fact I usually just ride about the same speed I would drive a car/truck/whatever. In fact knowing how mortal I really am nowadays I usually don't push it much at all.

Oh yeah.....been riding for 30 years now............guess I should buy a lottery ticket since I am so lucky to be alive after riding, or maybe it proves if you ride with some skill/common sense you don't have to be a statistic. I'd guess half the motorcycle deaths occur because of stupid people who drive cars and have very little driving skills or they do stupid crap like pull out in front of you or change lanes in to your bike. Either that or they are on their dam cell phone.......

haha, that's nuts.... I wish I knew where there was a big oval track where I could play with my car like that.... desolate freeways like US1 in SE PA are the best I can think of... this definitley makes me think of that pic set with the guy who hit that truck tho and got decaptitead :brokenheart:

I can't speak for anyone else, but I was replying to your post that it was Scoorb's fault if the guys hit him whether they were doing 30 mph or 120 mph.

Your "joke" made no sense in context, because whether they were dead or alive they could still be found at fault in the accident (which would obviously benefit Scoorb for insurance reasons).

I didn't say they wouldn't be found at fault... I said they wouldn't have any trouble with the law... You should refer back to cr4zymofo's post:
You all are being pwned by Nebor, all he's saying is, you can't prosecute a dead (possibly unrecognizble) corpse.

Assuming a motorcycle + rider weight of 600 lbs & a car + passenger weight of 3,000 lbs:

Kinetic energy is equal:

55 mph in the car / 122 mph on the bike
70 mph in the car / 156 mph on the bike

A 600 lb bike/rider @ 180 mph is equal to a 3000 lb car at 81 mph.

These numbers are probably a little low on the motorcycle side, 600 lbs is pretty light considering that liter class sport bikes are in the 400 lb range which only leaves 200 lbs for rider + gear.

Is Kinetic energy important, or is it momentum? A 600 lb bike at 180 mph has the same momentum as a 3000lb car at 36 mph. If they hit head on they'll both come to a dead (literally) stop. Can you imagine if that car was low just how far the biker would fly?
