Placing little flags in the ground the flag probably touches the ground and that is poor flag handling protocol

She's using the flag to get people to remember her name. She's not asking anyone to buy anything...it's just a flag with a compliments of card attached to the stick.

Whoopty do! So, someone sticks a tiny flag on your lawn once year. Get over it.

What do you tell politicians that go around sticking a board in your lawn that says "VOTE FOR ME"?

Whoopty do, get over it?

Politicians cannot put banners or any kind of political signs on someone else property without permission. It is illegal at least here in the town I live in.

I have to agree with notfred here. If you put an American flag up, why do you need to advertise?

Your wife is smart and found another way to market/advertise utilizing our patriotism so that others wouldn't complain.

However, it truly is undermining the integrity of the flag. It should NEVER be used as a form of advertisement like your wife is doing. She's lucky she didn't get a bullet from my gun.

Don't use the American flag to advertise or for marketing in any way. I know that stores love to flaunt the flag in hopes of projecting an image of patriotism and to make people feel better about shopping in their stores but, it's wrong IMHO. Once you (or your wife) attaches something like a business card to it, it has been desecrated. This shows a lack of respect.

Let me clarify, NO country's flag should be used in profit making. This is simply desecrating it.

That's also a good point. The American flag is never supposed to touch the ground. If it does then it is considered to have been desecrated. Once that happens proper protocol is to dispose of it in a ceremonial burning.

I have to constantly remove advertisement from my driveway and front door area. I don't like it at all. Waste of my time and energy. I view it as littering on my property. If advertisers allow me to throw my trash at their doorstop... I don't think they would like that.

that's my neighborhood, some loose woman wants to get their card in every man's hand in the neighborhood.

We get flags, christmas trees, "manorahs", pumpkins, bunny heads, etc etc etc. Don't put crap in my yard and especially don't when your dog leaves a poop next to your 'free advertisment'

Don't want them to sell my house though, someone with that much free time isn't selling much.

I am buying though.

My wife politely offered to take her off her list and not market her house in the future but apparently that's not good enough.

She's had quite a bit of positive feedback from other residents in the past when she's done this, I don't see what the big deal is.

No, your wife is trespassing on private property. Simple. Your wife WAY over stepped the bounds.

you just don't mess with another person's property in anyway shape or form.

there is a reason why people keep dogs, its to keep the salespeople off their property.

How would you like it if during the last presidential election, someone went and put up "Bush" or "Kerry" signs (whichever you liked the least) in everyone's yard, including yours?
Agreed.

I really don't give a rat's ass about desecrating the flag quite frankly. I just don't want to alienate any potential clients. ;)

Who wants their house marketed unless they are selling it?

Leaving unsolicted materials on private property is considered littering, punishable by inprisonment, around where I am. Purposely making that litter an American flag just sickens me. What's worse is the attitude of the OP making it seem that if you don't like my spamming on your private property then I'll give you the middle finger.

Oh no you don't, I haven't gotten my opinion in yet, and it's TOTALLY different and much more insightful than what's been posted before. ;) (j/k, I just want to b1tch)

I hope you read this and think about it when reconsidering for next year.

In a world where advertisers have completely given up on any type of common courtesy, this type of act is deplorable. I used to get dozens of spam messages a day in my Hotmail account, so even though everyone knew that address, I had to stop using it. Do you know how annoying that is? And in my head I'm blaming advertisers.

So when your wife does something like this, I just get angry. I'd already be REALLY fvcking tired of her monthly newsletters on my doorstep, so this would just be another annoying thing she was doing. I'm tired enough of advertisement that I didn't ask for, but now it's a flag, and it really does look pretty nice when a street is lined with them and I wouldn't want to mess that up. But at the same time, I hate that someone is putting an ad in my FRONT FVCKING YARD!!! If you don't see it as an ad, you've completely lost touch with reality.

So if I take this thing down, I not only mess up the look of the neighborhood, but I seem either lazy or unpatriotic. Fvck that, and fvck whoever (in this case, your wife) makes me look like that.

As for that person's reaction, I'm not going to say it was ok, but I will say that I'd do it to. They're probably tired of people putting sh1t on their door - your wife included - and if I were that person and I saw the chance to take out my collective frustration on your wife (which in my mind is just the personification of all the other advertisers I hate), you're damm right I'd yell at her. And I'd feel real good about it too.

The last thing I'll say is, I don't yell at ANYONE! I work at a place with security guards and a cafeteria, and I know the names of all the guards I encounter and all of the cafeteria workers that I go to for breakfast and lunch. I'm the kind of person that LIKES to be nice to other people. But in this instance, I have absolutely no sympathy for your wife, and I want to make it clear that if I'M saying this, imagine what less considerate people would do.

(Also, tell her that you might have a j0hnny in your neighborhood and you wouldn't want her to meet him, would you?)

NOW...

Good frickin' idea. And while your neighbor should have used more common courtesy, your wife should've too and not used our flag to sell her crap.

I am glad you are rethinking it. Postitive response was due to people pretty much being clueless.

I really doubt your wife is overly patriotic, but playing on the post-9/11 patriotism shared by many to buy into anything with a flag on it.

Her goal is selling, not promoting the nation.
