With a rebellious child like that though, generally there isn't any amount of beating that will beat the stupid out of them...but it may make the parent feel better.

That depends and varies. There were always a small percentage of kids who were trouble no matter what their parents did, but when you see a 3 yr old child realize that all you are gonna do is yell at them or give them a 5 min time out, they realize its worth it to do as they please. My step grandaughter is like that with her mother (who only threatens to spank)...but with her grandmother (who spanks her) is different and you can see the difference in behavior.

empty promises to spank and then you don't do it, alone has its own bad effect on a child as does using verbal and time out punishments do. I know some parents with teens who don't care if their grounded or not, means nothing to them.

Last year, we did a job at an elementary school, this black kid who was maybe 3rd grade, literally smile and laugh at the vice principal verbally scolding him after he was sent there...and there was an uniformed officer right there. It's like it meant nothing to the kid. Fear of the paddle and parents wrath back in the day did a lot for the majority of us in terms of how we acted and behaved around other adults.

sure, here is a shot of my left cheek using only a lighter, starting fluid, petrified wooden paddle with holes drilled in it and just a dash of salt (makes tears more realistic)...lawsuit worthy?
see how easy it is ;)

Your buttcheek looks like a moldy Orange. Might want to get that looked at...
