and are you really living for the sole purpose of nurturing? i think very few people are that altruistic.

DNA propogation is the primary function and purpose of all living things.

DNA propagation is something that most living things take part in... but how can you definitively say that it is the "purpose" of those living things? what is the purpose of a rock?

We were created to:

1. Please God through worship.
2. Become like Christ.
3. Fellowship with others.
4. Serve others.
5. Tell others about salvation from sin through Jesus.

Of course this isn't the end all be all list of our only purposes but some of the main ones.
It took you that long to come up with that and it still doesn't answer my question?

I am busy fulfilling my purposes. My life does not revolve around these forums.

that is scary....

not really. although he was a genius for his age he didn't go through medical school or become a phd or anything yet. he had no where near the top level of knowledge possible to even start thinking that way.

It's obvious what happened... puberty kicked in and when he realized that Brooke Burke would laugh at him for being a nerd despite being able to recite PI to the 50th decimal place he had no other choice than to off himself.

This is the problem with guns being so available: suicide attempts with a gun are often more "successful" than by other means. I have a friend who took an overdose when she was in her early teens. Luckily her mother came home early and found her unconcious. She called an ambulance and the girl thankfully made a full recovery. These days she's as happy as larry and is far from depressed. Had she had a gun available she probably wouldn't be around today.

It's a shame about this kid.

Take a look at Japan, and then try to tell me that suicide is a good reason to restrict the availability of guns.

If you really want to kill yourself, all you have to do is take a head-first dive off a building, bridge, or tree. Or slash your throat (correctly). The possibilities are endless. Saying "if she had a gun, she'd be dead" is like saying "if she had access to a knife, she'd be dead"... and I'm willing to bet she had access to a knife (or other pointy objects).

A lot of people are making the assumption that there was something wrong with him because he committed suicide; he was depressed, feeling pressure, feeling alienated, whatever. Perhaps there was nothing wrong with him at all, except for the realization that all he was doing was passing the time, keeping himself entertained until the day arrived when his preprogrammed genetics would begin to slowly shut his body down. Maybe he didn't feel like waiting.

As George Sanders said in his suicide note, "I'm bored."
