My boyfriend and I have been together for 14 months now, and this has been an ongoing issue since the beginning. We're both 17. He wants to get a job and I don't want him to. I don't have a job, and I don't see why he wants to get one. He says he wants to get a job because he's gotta pay for his gas and car insurance, but he gets a pretty hefty allowance and always manages to have money leftover to spend on things like RAM and other computer parts, and yet he "never has any money." I do not want him to get a job. My dad obviously has a job, and I never see him. He works all the time and is always gone. I'm worried that if my boyfriend gets a job, I'll never see him either, especially since my parents are strict on when I can see him. He manages to have enough money to spend without a job, so why does he need to desert me to have more? Am I being selfish to want to see my boyfriend unlike I do my dad? Keep in mind guys that I am a senior and will be leaving for college next summer, as will he.

I hope thats a joke, if not, good luck surviving at College!

Your boyfriend cannot replace your dad

Yes! You are being extremely selfish. You can't expect any one to ignore what they want to give you what you want. Desiring to spend 24/7 with your guy is unrealistic, and overbearing. You just seem like a dependent little girl who needs to step out into the real world on her own.

Are you a rich valleygirl or something? Getting a job and paying for your $hit is part of what is commonly known as LIFE.

You're being selfish. You should apologize and be nice enough that he won't find somebody less constrictive and leechy than you at his new job.

You guys are really mean. I just asked a question, and there you go jumping all over me. I'm sorry I'm sheltered, my parents won't let me get a job.

My parents were the same, but I got a job when I was 16 anyways. I wanted to work, though I didn't have any finacial problems. If you start early you learn about being responsible and get your feet wet of the society. As long your bf has you in his plans then let him do whatever he wants. Stop being selfish and immature.

HS relationship = future wife ? I highly doubt it.

I think she's just sheltered to the fact that there will be tons of guys to meet in college. HS was a small sample of what's out there. Don't expect to be together for the rest of your life unless you both somehow believe you are truly in love... and that you will both be close at college together. THere's just too many factors without college arriving yet...
