This article from IGN (from 6/15) says the game will probably have a late July/early August PC release. Wouldn't that be a little late if it went gold this week?

All I have to say is...HOLY SH!T! The day is FINALLY coming! Man, I've got to ditch this Radeon 8500 soooon. :| I'll have my eye on at least a 9800Pro, but hopefully I'll get an X800 Pro. :)

I still don't get it. Why would they wait over a month to release the game if it goes gold this week?

Gone gold means it's ready to go to manufacturing. The 100,000 - million CDs/DVDs, boxes, etc. don't appear the next day they must be duplicated, assembled and distributed.

I know what Gone Gold means, but thanks for the explanation. It seems to me that games generally don't take a month and a half (or more) to be released after they go gold. I could be wrong though (seriously). And I suppose the preparations for the release of doom could be a little more time consuming than with other games.

For those of you that are underwhelmed by the 310 pound vehicle, do note that the big vehicle (1500 lbs) that can actually carry people is also flying. Look back in the Armadillo updates around April 19 for testing video. We have since reworked the propulsion system to follow what has worked so well on the subscale vehicle, and should be testing it this weekend. If it works well, we will be repeating the boosted hop with the big vehicle next week.

The flight time is currently limited by federal law to 15 seconds of rocket burn time. We have a waiver coming to extend that to 120 seconds, but beyond that we will need a full launch license.

The significance of all this is that the vehicles are intended to fly up, come back down and land right where they took off from, all without ablating, expending, or seperating anything. It should be possible to have turn around times under one hour even for quite large vehicles.

BTW, Doom beta testing is going very well.

..doesnt tell us a whole lot, but the end is nice to hear, Plus....if he's out playing with rockets again and not coding....sounds like they're reeeeeeal close, eh? :)

Best Buy is showing release on July 13th, whereas not too long ago it was TBA. I would MUCH rather have it be this date than August 3rd, considering how long we've all had to wait.

On the DOOM 3 Date [June 22, 2004, 5:52 pm EDT] - 18 Comments
A couple of recent doings have stirred the pot a bit regarding the release date for DOOM 3, id Software's eagerly anticipated upcoming shooter remake. DOOM 3 Release Date Set on IGN points out that Gamestop and EBgames each are listing August 3 as the "official" just-announced release date for the game, for which the release date had been "when it's done" until it was recently announced that it would be done this summer (story). On a related note, a few folks have pointed out that the British Board of Film Classification has a DOOM III Listing (thanks for small "b" blue for being the first) with a rating for the game, a seeming indication that they've already been able to review all its content, which some are taking as another indication of the game's relative imminence.

Edit#2: isnt august 3rd a tuesday? I thought games generally got released on either a friday or monday?

Also, I found this interesting: Teh Bootay!

That kinda strengthens Best Buy's stated release date from my earlier post, eh? Good News

Yes, good news indeed. My little birdy hasnt returned any of my "calls". But then again, we have until the end of this week to here a "gone Gold" announcement according to him.

Still, even if he's wrong and its not announced this week, I think we're close enough to the release that it doesnt matter.

We need a gold date before we get too excited.

As for games being released on a certain day of the week, it is always Tuesday now.

Yea, I see it. But until Activision (or id) says an official release date, I'm a little skeptical of that date.

/completely failing to see how it's "confirmed" when nobody at id or activision has commented on it...
