There was a young girl killed at an intersection near my house about 10 years ago and her family (I assume) put a cross out there and still puts flowers next to it. It's the only thing not put up by the township that they haven't removed (like political signs and garage sale signs.)

God, I can't imagine losing a child. That would be about the worst thing I can imagine. I'd rather be eaten by sharks or tortured slowly to death.

My town is also home to the only person known to have jumped off Niagra Falls and lived =) I believe that's the 3rd time he's tried to kill himself... he drove his car into a wooded area about 100 years from my house at about 60 mph about a year ago.

Man, you're such a hypocrit it's not even funny. First you come in here spouting how "respect is so important" then you flame anyone with a dissenting opinion than yours. Then you blanket statement the everyone calling them fascist sympathizers, all the while maintaining your precious ego.

All I have to contribute to this thread is the fact that the one time I wasn't respectful to a cop I got a ticket. The other times I got pulled over I was respectful and polite and followed all of the unspoken "rules" of getting pulled over and didn't get a ticket.
Also once while I was leaving my house I hit the silent alarm but I disarmed it and assumed that it would cancel the call to the police station. Well driving down the street I saw the police car FLYING down the road so I turned around and went back to my house (ended up late to work) but the cop really appreciated it and the next time it went off for real, they were there just as fast. So to sum it up, it IS all about respect, but you have to show yours first. At least that's how it works around my house.

It is about respect. Most of the time, you wont get a ticket if you do show some. I have shown respect every time I've gotten pulled over, and only gotten a ticket once. I deserved it for going 22 over, and I paid the fine. Not a big deal. I showed respect to him, he was kind to me and simply wrote me a ticket. It makes the traffic stop much quicker if he doesn't have to deal with an asshat.
