ever heard of the LAW? It's illegal no matter where it is.

But officer, I was snorting coke in the middle of the desert. You can't arrest me for that!
God, get a grip on reality bud. I didn't say it wasn't the law everywhere. I mean when they set up speed traps on route-noonecares and give 50 tickets a day I don't agree with. If your not from texas you probably don't experience this as often so don't talk to me about it. lol

They do this everywhere. You don't want a ticket, don't fvcking speed.
OMG, has the IQ of AT dropped to nothing??? I don't mind getting tickets when I speed, however, I don't like the ticketing of speeding just for revenue!!! Come on people... read more slowly if it helps!

Your original post didn't mention anything about organized speed traps....post more slowly if it helps.

ahh, I thought it was common knowledge that speed traps were used only as "a money maker for the state" in my original post. Guess it isn't so I clarified for those not of my region.

Fine. Cops will stop ticketing for revenue, instead the state can now increase taxes.

are you prepared to pay for those times your ass got saved?
i guess that is why taxes are too high, people with radar detectors knowingly breaking a law and purposely using a device to circumvent the enforcement of said law.

Sure. Write me the damn ticket. Not a single one of them would be for more than 10mph over. Maximum would be 80 in a 70.

lol, I thought the connection between radar enforcement and higher state taxes was a bit spurious in the first place. However, luckily texas doesn't have a state income tax, or at least not to my knowledge ^_^ Funny point tho!

Yes, there are some real dickhead cops.

Just remember that when they approach you it is their JOB to be gruff and act like bitches. They are trained to act tough so as to show "who wears the pants" in the situation. This is a safety mechanism for them. A polite and wussy cop is more likely to be assaulted or given a hard time.

Relax.

LoL, sadly I know many people that would agree with this facetious statement.

I think that the only change that needs to be made is, like most state troopers, you need to have a degree to get a gun and a badge, that simple. Maybe enact a federal 50-100% loan forgiveness bill for anyone who wants to do law enforcement, to encourage them to go into the field. I think classes such as cultural diversity, a foreign language, world religions, civil rights, and 2-3 undergrad psych classes will help officers understand more about the different people they will encounter during their career. For instance, if they had reports that Latino parents were throwing a party for their child graduating, and that minors were being served alcohol. Well, if they took any Spanish cultural class, they would know that it's common in Mexico/Spain for kids to drink at a younger age, it's a culturally accepted thing. And they might just give the parents a warning instead of arresting them.

Cops... let's see... on 2 occasions my parents' house had an alarm go off. Turned out to be false alarms but they made their way out and were helpful. I got there before them one of the times and the guy still went around the back to check it out.

I don't see how people can generalize that ALL or 9/10 cops are on power trips with bad attitudes. How about I say 9/10 teenagers are punks who think they are above the law ? Didn't think so.

I have nothing but the depest respect for Police Officers. They perform a sometimes very dangerous job and are largely despised by the motoring public.

There was a cop killed about a year ago in Oceanside, CA (not far from where I live). This guy had a wife and two young children he left behind. He pulled a guy over for a traffic infraction and the guy attacked him, wrestled his gun away from him and shot and killed him with it. This guy did not deserve to die. The POS who shot him does however. I hope he gets the death penalty.

People still leave flowers on the corner where he lost his life.

So, if I ever get pulled over (which is almost never) I remain calm and respectful. They are just doing their job.

Good idea, but if they make that a requirement cops are going to be demanding more pay.

If that's what it took for 90% of cops to be on the education level of state troopers, then I wouldn't mind paying slightly higher property/state taxes. I think having better cops in my township would more than increase the value of the township's properties, for instance, if a cop lives in your neighborhood, usually the houses' values go up. The same with an exceptional public school system, where people don't have to spend the extra money to send their kids to a private school. It adds value to any state or property to have better cops, and a degree requirement would prove this. Also, many incompetent people who want to become cops would be weeded out by this process. For instance, if they dropped out of college b/c all they did was party and were irresponsible. Does this guy deserve a badge and a gun, if he can't even get up to go to class for 4 years? I don't think he does, some might disagree. Will there still be some bad cops? Of course, but as with any profession, there are always bad apples... you can't teach a cop integrity, hopefully his/her parents will have already done that.

Yes, California does have the death penalty. Ever hear of a POS named David Westerfield? He was sentenced to death about 2 years ago for abducting and killing a little girl who lived next door to him (also in San Diego Co).

There was a young girl killed at an intersection near my house about 10 years ago and her family (I assume) put a cross out there and still puts flowers next to it. It's the only thing not put up by the township that they haven't removed (like political signs and garage sale signs.)

God, I can't imagine losing a child. That would be about the worst thing I can imagine. I'd rather be eaten by sharks or tortured slowly to death.

sure, but mabye it was my mistake for never tying the whole situation together in the first post... either way, I care not. I'm disgusted at how much this fourm loves to speed and loves the fast cars, yet when a cop starts harassing someone and the victim stands up for themself, they're the smartass.

Yes, you're right... I'm embarrased to have brought this up in a forums I could have misjudged so badly.

The very fact that I left that scene scott free even after deaing with a disgruntled cop is PROOF that I was totally within my rights. No cop ever lets a "smartass" get away unless the cop was in the wrong in the first place.

My town is also home to the only person known to have jumped off Niagra Falls and lived =) I believe that's the 3rd time he's tried to kill himself... he drove his car into a wooded area about 100 yards (oops, corrected, hehe) from my house at about 60 mph about a year ago.

Not speaking about you specifically cause I don't know you... but a major problem with everyone today is that they're too concerned with their rights, but they don't actually understand their rights. It's a scary time when people can pay someone to bend the laws so much that a felon can be let go without paying for his crimes... but Howard Stern is censored and considered a bad man.
