Haha Joeyman you made me laugh

I am sorry guys for everyone who is defending police officers I need to say this - I have never ever met a respectful police officer. EVER.

Two weeks ago two teenagers stole bikes that my nephew and neice got for christmas - they cut through chains btw. Chris (their father in law) chased one of them down and detained him while my sister (his wife for those of lower iq) saw a police officer around the corner sitting in a parking lot. When she told him that they had detained a theif he told her that he was too busy to help.

I am sorry but doing paperwork can wait a second for you to throw a stealing POS into the back of your squad car. The worst thing is that he could have just took the teen into custody and stayed there (like he did) until another officer was able to show up to the scene.

I have also been pulled over years ago when I was 16 shortly after getting my liscence and the cop called my parents and told them I was rude and disrespectful - I was scared out of my MIND people. I said nothing but "Yes sir" "No sir" "Sorry Officer" and my phone number. HOW THE FSCK WAS I DISRESPECTFUL?

Another time an officer had the nerve to ask me what my "daddy" does for a living because I was driving my new car and he thought I stole it apparently - had me sit in the parking lot for an hour before not charging me with anything.

If there is a place where all the pork isnt on a power trip please let me know.

For anyone who said that cops dont make a lot of money I have to disagree. They get to work in many cases 5 on 5 off so they get 2.5 times as many days off and I think they get a vacation every year as well. On those days off or before their shift they often can "moonlight" doing something else IE traffic for the local church or working at a football game where they get paid overtime. They also get overtime for going to court. The officer I know drives a nice car and lives in a nice neighborhood and his wife doesnt work at all.

you'd have to understand the incident, she forgot something she needed to "pull me up"

after screaming at me to get back in my car, when she realized what I was trying to give her, she thanked me

Walking towars a police officer's car can be very dangerous - for both you and the officer. I would have reacted the same way if you were to have walked towards the car, too.

Lots of angry teenagers in this thread.

"Stupid pigs, blah blah blah."

I'd like to see you last a week as an officer.

This has to be the most ignorant comment I've read in awhile. You have a lot of growing up to do kid.

You think it's okay if you walk toward a police officer's car while the officer is in it? Read this and get back to me.

It makes me SICK when people say, "Oh c'mon...their job isn't that different from mine; they just get a lot more authority and they abuse it."

You're an asshole, and as for me radiating the stench of 'bacon,' fine by me. At least I know I'll likely never get arrested or inconvenienced for showing police officers respect. Bargaining for your license? Give me a fscking break.

I've only been pulled over once. Did the whole yes-sir, no-sir thing and got a verbal warning. Trust me, although it wont work 100% of the time, not being an asshat to an officer will give you a better chance of not getting into trouble... If respect is what you want from them, make sure you are giving it to them also.

And whats this whole "if you are for the cops, you radiate bacon" attitude. Hell, i know i wouldnt want to be them. Not only would i have to deal with the asshats like you, but also the lowest scumbags on earth. Wake up and welcome to the real world.

you are speaking of the only profession where they can kill your and it "used" to be the worst thing that could happen is they would get fired.

I try to be respectful to these bunch. Often they are ppl who couldn't get into college, have not so high education or ethics and I wouldn't want to put them in a position to do as they want with me. I usually try to respect all cops except for traffic cops.

However, there are some smart cops that do it b/c it's in their blood and I can also respect that.

Let me guess, these were township cops, right? The problem with these cops (at least, in NJ) is that they don't need a college degree to be a cop, something I think should be REQUIRED to broaden their horizons psychologically and learn what diversity is. Many cops are under age 20 - they graduate from high school and spend a summer in the academy (6 weeks), and bam, here's your badge and gun. It's the equivalent of a little kid having the authority to shoot you, or arrest you if you don't like them. If you don't think like them, they don't know how to understand your point of view because they know nothing about psychology of the people they interact with, aside from the courses they've taken at the academy. I'm sorry, but 6 weeks isn't enough to learn about the human psyche. This could be why the officer thought you were "disrespectful", b/c he wasn't qualified enough to interpret your reaction, making him a threat to the people he stops and all of society.

Trooper's, on the other hand, I have alot of respect for. Most have criminal justice degrees, and are much more professional overall. It's the local cops that I have a problem with.

I could go into some stories to prove this, but I think stnicralisk said it well enough.

cops are pretty much useless. 9/10 are power tripping morons. when you do need their help, they don't want to do anything. when you don't want anything to do with them, then they make a big deal out of stuff and give you tickets. now the police unions here are complaining and wanting to eliminate the civilian panel made that oversees them because there were too many shootings. oh im sorry officer, you're not allowed to shoot any more people and get away with it. fvck them.

SP33Demon: I agree w/ you, State Troopers in Texas are usually very qualified and respectful. Unfortunately, a large part of their job is giving speeding tickets, which in the middle of no where endangering no one I can't respect. It is only a money maker for the state.

most street beat cops barely graduated from high school

and considering how awful most of today's public high schools are, it's no wonder we have knuckle-draggers wearing badges

oh and the same goes for COs

(it takes more education to be a detective...usually, so I can respect that)

They risk their lives for low pay. They never know at a stop like this whether they're getting a normal citzen, a smartass like you, or a felon or druggie who's afraid of having their license checked (or car searched) and has a gun.

Stop acting like a punk kid, and making a hard job even more difficult, or you'll deserve a bit of mace.

uh-oh... ATOT is starting to RADIATE the stench of bacon.

I didn't give you enough information for you to be able to legitimatley judge me, so why don't you just take it? I don't give 2 cents a rat's @ss what kind of people are in the world, everyone's first priority needs to be respect. I don't care if youre a cop, a McDonald's worker or a CEO, no respect, no game.

My watching my rights != lack of respect.

Edit: I will give you this though, I wasn't driving when this happened. I was parked enjoying a cigarette and cleaning out my car in a campus parking lot where I have every right to be via legit parking pass.

you're an a55hat.

oh, and by the way, just because you may have a parking permit does not allow you to loiter. Thats probably why she came to check you out if it was after hours.

Let's just get rid of the entire law enforcement scene in the United States since people don't like it.

God, get a grip on reality bud. I didn't say it wasn't the law everywhere. I mean when they set up speed traps on route-noonecares and give 50 tickets a day I don't agree with. If your not from texas you probably don't experience this as often so don't talk to me about it. lol

I'm not the only person that thinks this is un-just. In fact the Texas Legislature has made such things illegal... only in the sense that a counties revenue can not be majority from speeding tickets... ie only 49.99% can come from such revenue. However, this means they can still set up speed traps but only until they hit their limit.

OMG, has the IQ of AT dropped to nothing??? I don't mind getting tickets when I speed, however, I don't like the ticketing of speeding just for revenue!!! Come on people... read more slowly if it helps!

Fine. Cops will stop ticketing for revenue, instead the state can now increase taxes.

Wow... this thread went a lot farther than I ever envisoioned...

A lot of good points raised, many of which I respect and will fold into my own views, as I would leaving any sort of elightened debate.

Props to the eThugs though for making sure I know my place as a smartass
