Yea my Ryzen uses just 140w CPU crunching 😎 (although it is being throttled atm to 65w PPT) vs my old Ivy i7 which did use ~240w for Rosetta, although strangely it's only using ~195w atm! 😵 Not complaining mind, but I am puzzled! (I have confirmed the i7 is still at 4.1 GHz with vcore of 1.13v). Oh, the thread count change is just via BOINC btw 😉.

Are the current WUs non-avx? Or are their a mix in the wild?

I can't fathom the idea of deliberately throttling a cpu such as yours but i am sure you got some very good reasons. 🙂 When i see 10/12/16 and other big threaded cpus in rigs,i assume they are usually more overclocked or at least stock over downclocked. I feel almost bad i am keeping my 3900x stock but i prefer to stay air cooled on a upcoming NH-D15 purchase. I may have to throttle my 3900x momentarily as i will be running stock cooler but a member talked me on how to at least downvolt to help on boost clocks and thermals. Out of the box 3900x prob needs a 0.1v offset from what i heard as GB boards love to overvolt.

Nice, gotta leave it to the Germans to benchmark a 16 core beast in eco mode. well my kinda people as well my family came out of there sometime during WW1. Pretty detailed benchmarks and its not that much slower. How much power at the socket stock vs in eco mode? I saw no direct mention of these numbers?

My Ryzen is on the stock heatsink, which for this one is the Stealth & turns out to be absolute junk even at stock speeds! 🙁 Running F@H at stock settings it was hitting 90C & throttling! 😱 Hence I throttled it to 65w PPT (peaks in the high 70s now), which btw is apparently better/more efficient than undervolting vcore, as it can allow the CPU to boost more for single core loads, IIRC 😉, the info was linked in the Zen2 thread here in the DC forum if you want to find out the details of that, the link included a post by an AMD staff member, an engineer I think (afraid I can't remember which page).
I'm going to use my old Ultima90 for it! Just waiting for the AM4 adapter kit to become available again (which, thinking about it, should be very soon! 🙂)

I was comparing Rosetta to Rosetta with the i7 😉, so some months ago it was pulling ~240w, now it's pulling 190-195w on Rosetta 😵 lol
[edit] Just remembered, it's in a different case lol, it's PSU is rated at 50w less, theirs 1 less HDD & 3 less fans!

I found this on google searches of 3900x eco mode vs standard i guess oem got a 65 version of a 3900 non x? It looks AMAZING at least on the power draw.

In regards to eco mode, yeah i may be sold running Eco on my 3900x if i could maybe even skip a NH-D15 even though if i run one of those the boost and the clocks could actually increase? I heard if i recall anything over 60cel effects clocks? If this plays also in eco mode i got no idea. Something in the universe is telling me to just fully unleash it but those Eco numbers are also so awesome.

The 3900x really is a spiritual successor to my 7700k, i found my 7700k runs very cool mid 70s right now fully loaded on a Hyper 212 but if i enable one of the auto overclocks as this board SUCKS for manual overclocking then even getting a 300mhz increase sends my chip right to about 91-92 cel. I prefer keeping it at 4.2ghz all core where for anything with 8 threads its still quite a beast. If anything for older stuff not that demanding its overkill.

Honestly, I think you should stick with the NH-D15. It's a top performing air cooling and is likely going to have a long life going from system to system. AMD keeps improving their automatic processor tuning to account for temp, processor load, core load, voltage, etc and I have a really hard time seeing a down side to having a good cooler. If nothing else, you could always fold in ECO mode and switch modes for gaming, which the NH-D15 should be able to handle just fine. Gaming drives CPU in bursts so even though the overdrive mode mode allows more voltage and more clock, the CPU usage in games will be up and down. As long as your heatsink can handle the little spikes, you'll get top tier performance.

This guy is usually testing and reporting much more extensively. But he had the 3950X only for a very short time. (Remember its initial shortage? AMD was extremely stingy with review samples.)

Ah, you found some. I believe 3900X and 3950X have the same limits:
TDP = 105 W and PPT = 142 W at stock,
TDP = 65 W and PPT = 88 W in eco mode.

PLEASE AMD for the love of Hyperion give me a reason to get a 32 thread 4000 series when it drops to replace this 3900x so i could maybe see how much better Eco and performance would be on one of those chips. Those numbers look absolutely insane!

I could take my current board as i plan to replace it for the dual 3080/3080ti cards end of year then we take the 3900x and grab some cheap ram and past it down to my friend who will be getting my 7700k today. That 7700k then just lands in my htpc or possibly my other friend who is using my spare i5 4670/8gb/4gb gtx960 rig . Only issue is he only plays LOL so it would be a waste. If i keep the 7700k, the htpc already has a 750w Corsair unit of good enough quality and i could just pair it with a 1070. That eventually may go into the 4670 as a top end upgrade as anything else would be a bottleneck.

With my beliefs and customs, i feel the universe would not want me wasting things. I always gift my friends the old stuff i no longer use over selling it but since i will have a Dell oem with a i3 2100 going out of service today as it will no longer serve as my htpc i may just find someone and gift it to them for free. I kinda wanna sell it dirt cheap as i don't want anyone on Craigslist/Facebook taking advantage of me either and flipping it or something.

BTW, the marathon stats are now also showing an overtake estimation. (Bottom of the team stats page). I don't know though how the "hours until contact" are calculated.

Columns in this table: Team | rank | difference in total points | estimated hours until overtake | difference in last-hour output | difference in last-12-hours output | difference in last-24-h output.

Like Theban and Latin which i plan to learn how to read and write, i need to also learn this geek speak apparently now as well . I am so lost with post #164 that even google maps can't find me! Sorry for sounding noobish. 🙂 Translation in simple terms if possible? Lots of stuff being mentioned that is sounding very foreign to me.

Thanks cause while it was not making any sense to me, i was about to type in what little Theban i know so far i know to see how you like it for a change. 😀 I am joking of course but I got a page i bookmarked that translates English to it i use to learn. I often learn visually as that works best for me. Well hopping off i need to go out of town to pick up some stuff at my friends other house for the 3 builds that will be reconfigured today. UPS won't run for hours so yeah i got time to do this 😛

Its official, i am back up and running with fresh format of W10 and just got Boinc going on the 3900x in Eco mode. Been running all over the house working on friends rig with my old 7700k as well which is also back up and running 🙂 Htpc i will reinstall windows on later. But its completely together at least.

Will do more testing on temps and clocks later when my games are done downloading, i question the temp numbers on MSI AB they are very uniform in nature. The cpu does seem to hit 57cel-59cel and all the threads move together in sync on those temps like clockwork. I got a 100% fan profile on stock cooler for when the cpu hits 47cel.

The cpu clocks between 3.8ghz-3.9 depending on cpu usage. I currently got like BOINC going at 50% usage with F@H pushing the 1080ti while Origin also downloads games. I spike to like 60%.

Could MSI AB be right on those temps or do i need to consider another program?

Looking at HWiFO64 on my main rig individual core temp's aren't listed, I've got CPU (tctl/Tdie), CPU Die (average) & CPU CCD1(Tdie) (whatever that is!).
I also looked at Core Temp & that only lists one CPU temp reading CPU #0.

So it seems their is only 1 core reading available, at least going by those 2 programs. That would explain all your CPU cores reading the same temp's, which would otherwise be impossible.
If you got that 47C on the CPU, then the cooler you got is far better than mine! 🙂 (my fan's also at 100% btw).
