I guess that's my issue with the thing.... who has that much time to waste doing "nothing"? Every waking moment?

Well actually, you dont need every waking moment. You just need bursts of 10 minutes here and there. If I were to pull up my instant messanger logs, I probably have 1000 messages per day even though I am online only 6 hrs per day.

now if that person is posting equivalent amounts of msgs through instant messanger additionally, yeah thats pretty excessive. But, probably typical of a high-school aged girl.

Some carriers will give you access to the actual text of each message. I suggest you print it off and have a discussion with your daughter about priorities.

How old is she? Why, exactly, does she NEED constant access to a cellphone (electronic teat)? Even though the unlimited texting is free for you, you should consider getting her a prepaid phone and making her pay for her own airtime/text messages (or at least give her a limit, like $20, above which she must pay) so that she can learn some self control. There is absolutely no way that it is healthy for her to spend that much time sending text messages.

Try nudging her toward a productive life like paying attention in school for starters.

thats a great generalization! her texting habits are for sure going to lead her to not paying attention in school.

my daughter started getting carried away with the texting at one point. i told her when i gave her the phone she only had 250 a month and to not go over. she did, i charged her what the bill would have been if i hadnt already had her on unlimited. she paid, next month the same thing. we talked about it, where i told her she had unlimited texting but i wanted her to limit herself to show she could control it. she went from texting over 3k a month to less than 700 or so. that i can live with, she is the one that limited herself, knowing she has unlimited available. she had way more incoming than outgoing tho, all her friends text her all the time with what seems to be a "txt all" kind of mentality. most of them say "hey wut up" or something equally epic. at no point in the life of her phone use has her grades dipped due to the outrageous texting. the phones arent allowed in school and she keeps it on silent in her backpack. i know this, since the school will take it from her and make me go get it if they see it.

Seriously, I hate texting. If you're over 18 and you send me a text message I'm going to call you, find out where you're at, and smear my knuckles on your face.

wouldnt it be more effective for your epeen/ nettoughguy act if you actually hit them?

btw, im 37 and i text a bunch. it is often more convenient than actually talking to people. ill send a text to my field supers to report, ill send texts to engineers answering an easy issue they asked me about and most importantly ill text the ex wife. it is a good way to keep me from talking to her. i would text you as well. i would text you things like "if u dont forward this ul die in 36 hrs!" with a skary story after it. id also txt ya "hey wussup homie" and hope you respond. =P

phones were made for people to communicate. who cares if people are redefining how they communicate? if you get txts and dont like it, tell those people to call you instead. i still have a couple friends that never answer my txts and wait for me to call them, so i dont txt them anymore. i still call them tho.

unlimited or not, i think its time to buy a pay per minute phone and just put 20 bucks on it each month. 11, 000 messages in one month is beyond extreme.

all he has to do is look on the bill and check the time stamps.

You people who are calculating her # of txts per minute failed to see the part about that being the total sent and received.

Yes because 4 posts per day, or one every 6 hours, is definitely the same as texting once every 3 minutes. This thread is really bringing all of the idiots out of the woodwork.

We factored that in. Before you can apply the read -> pwn technique, you should make sure you can read.

Great post. I really see your point and concede my entire argument.

You have no argument because the entire basis of your posts rests on some asinine notion of HS being extremely easy and the OP being a horrible father. You know nothing about the HS the girl attends nor do you know how the OP is raising his daughter.

you are infact an asshole...
you know absolutely nothing about this girl other than that she sends a large amount of text messages yet you can say that her life is pathetic and she does nothing productive

grade A douchebag

maybe you should try spending a little less time on AT and do something more productive with your pathetic life?

Read below. Not worth my time to get in a flame war about this. My opinion that she is out of line and wasting her best years is far from the minority in this thread.
