No, that's one every 4 minutes assuming she doesn't sleep.

Correct.

(11712 text messages / month) * (1 month / 30 days) * (1 day / 1440 mins) = 0.27 text messages per minute, or 1 every 4 minutes. If you assume this doesn't happen when she is asleep, and assuming she sleeps 7 hours, then she sends and receives a text message at a rate of 0.38 messages per minute, or 1 every 2 minutes and 37 seconds.

Sad.

Even if it is free, a text message each 2.5 minutes that she's awake tells me that there needs to be some boundaries set.

You guys are forgetting that phones let you send texts to dozens of people at a time. I do that on fridays, to communicate where I'll be drinking next. It's easy to send out 40 texts withouth realizing it - 10 people 4 times. My high was about 40 texts a day, but that's just because I hate talking to people and prefer text.

Couldn't it also include text messages sent to multiple people? Such as sending the same message "What are you doing tonight?" (of course you must chatspeak that up) to about 20 different people and then responding to each one again.

I bet she forgot how to talk.

Seriously, I hate texting. If you're over 18 and you send me a text message I'm going to call you, find out where you're at, and smear my knuckles on your face.

texting works quite well for me when signals low and voice doesn't work well. i can get a "meet upstairs" out and be done with it.

thats actually not very hard to do especially if you use txt msg just like an instant messenger program.

It would be pretty easy to send 390 messages per day.

e.g. 39 msg conversation with 10 people is not very difficult to do.

You have to remember that sending 20 messages within 1 minute is very easy to do, and typical especially when you are just sitting around doing nothing.

Pathetic. I can't believe people let their kids waste that much time with stupid shit like this. I text message my family when there is actually something to say, which is about 5-6 messages a month (incoming and outgoing). Try nudging her toward a productive life like paying attention in school for starters.

Her GPA is 3.8 :)

[sarcasm]Clearly she is intelligent [/sarcasm]. I tried zero in high school and graduated in the top 10. GPA means literally nothing in high school. Nice try though. She still needs a life.

I completely agree. She is wasting her best years, and as cliche as that sounds, it's true. It's too bad her father doesn't have enough sense to make her do something more productive with her life.

Just ask her if she ever texts during her classes. If She says no, explain she has class 7 hrs a day and sleeps 7 hours a day and that means she literally sends or receives 1 text per minute every waking hour.

IDK how peopel woudl get away with it, back when i was in HS, was when cellphones started getting big and if a teacher saw you with one at any time during school, even in the hall and whatnot it was taken away till the end of the day

i guess that does not happen anymore

I guess that's my issue with the thing.... who has that much time to waste doing "nothing"? Every waking moment?

one of my friends has a sidekick, and she uses 6000 txt per month without feeling like she is spending too much time doing it. She has bursts of 60-100 txt msgs within 15 minute intervals randomly assorted throughout the day.

She works full time and doesnt use the sidekick at work (10 hrs per day) nor sleep (6 hrs per day). Its very possible to use that many text messages.

Thats almost 400 a day, and like 6 per hour, 1 per 10 minutes for every minute of the month...thats not even taking into account sleep time
