Please forgive my curiosity, but when you say 50K, do you run the whole thing or is that more of a walk / run type of deal? I mean, that's 31 miles ...
Dave, I can run an entire 50 mile trail race (barring massive climbs that need to be power hiked), but it's not like I'm running at a marathon pace. My PR for a 50K race (official distance 32 miles with 2 bonus miles due to poor trail marking) is 6:07:32, which is a 10:47 min/mile pace. I know people who can run 100 mile trail races at just over 8 min/mile pace so my doings are ridiculous. lol

I'm definitely no speed demon, I just enjoy the ride.

+ 24

Last Tuesday = 10 mile race - 1:17:26 @ 7:44 pace

Yesterday = 12 mile Ruck - 2:46:13 w/ 44lb ruck @ 12:44 pace

Today = a collective 2 miles - from crossfit 200m / 400m workouts today

= 58800

+5.1 including one mile of something new. Hauling around a 35-40lb oak log I brought home from up north. Was kinda brutal but variety is the spice of life!

Sounds like a portion of the Spartan Death Race, TraumaRN. You should check that out.

Thats where I got the idea from actually haha! I figure its great cross training and it will probably help with my speed over time. Got a few funny looks from the neighbors lol.

Also given that I've lost weight running(from 234lbs in Jan to 208lbs today) it is a good reminder of how heavy I used to be. And how I don't want that again.

My goal was under the 2 hr mark. I came in a 1:58:19, a 9 min pace. I was pretty conservative at the beginning of the race and then was in the middle 8's the last 3 miles.

Felt good the whole race, and this was my first race running Paleo.

Congratulations on beating your goal!

Congrats, awesome job!

Thanks. Just checked the official results (was basing my time off my watch before) and they gave me two extra seconds (1:38:52). I'll take 'em! 😀

1:42 but ran the last two miles at a 6:30 pace, so I should have run at a faster pace overall and done better.

1:42 is still a great time, but finishing @6:30 for the last two miles?!?! Wow, that's quite a kick! Impressive. I know how you feel about pacing. I'm still learning my best paces, but my problem is usually the opposite of yours - starting out way too fast, and dying at the end. In my first half ever, I added 1:20/mile for the last three miles - it was a complete crash and burn! Live and learn. 😉

5K for time. I did this on purpose. I just worked 3 x 12hour shifts the last 3 days and I have one more today. Legs were feeling kinda tired to begin with which was what I wanted. Wasn't expecting a 15mph headwind for most of the run. Oh well. But I still managed to completely obliterate my old PR and ran a 25:20. Old PR was 26:40.

Thats not bad after 5 months of training and after 9 years of almost no training.

Great job, TraumaRN.

Thanks! I figure I've got plenty of endurance built now and that I can start work on speed AND endurance. I'm sure I'll shave another minute or two by summers end on my 5K time. Ultimately I'd like to be looking at running an ultra(probably 50 miler) this time next year.

We lost 7 miles in there somewhere. I'll add it back.

+5 Sat.

Congrats to Trauma for shaving his 5K PR down by over a minute! And a 50-miler?!? That's thinking big! Good luck!

Go big or go home! Plus I've always been good at distance events. I was primarily a swimmer in high school, especially the distance events. I could crank out laps at the same steady even pace over and over and over again. I've found I can still do that this time as miles while running.

I told my girlfriend and parents that I wanna do a 50mile run and they all just encouraged me. I don't want to be that person that runs a marathon slaps a 26.2 sticker on their car and calls it a day. I want to push myself beyond my limits and keep going. And then do it again and again.
