How's your running this year Skoorb? Are you all healed up?
Nope, not sure I'll ever be. My knee is slightly better with each passing year, for what it's worth. I should be good in another 20-30 years at this point 🙂 I can't pretend to be serious about this again until I lose weight, though. I've really packed on some good winter fat in the last year and have an honest 20 lbs to lose. My cycling was going well, a lot of commuting to work back and forth and knee handled it without complaint, which is a first since the onset of this. Still strengthening and what not! Yesterday's 6 was "pacing" a friend at the beast of burden ultra in Lockport. Was a nice slow run. I can't say I was unhappy to leave at the 6, the idea of doing that for a day straight didn't sound exciting at all!

I had to take the better part of the week off due to sore feet so just 27 to add. My feet were definitely not 100% healed when I perhaps unwisely went out for a 30k this morning but they don't seem to be much worse now. The run actually loosened them up a bit, although the tendons on the bottom of my right foot tightened up in response.

Anybody know how to treat that? For lack of anything better, I've been rolling it on an empty beer bottle, which seems to help a bit 🙂

I've run very few miles since my last post in this thread, and I've also gained nearly 20 lbs. Someone get me back on the trails..

Where do you live? And have you ever visited Runner's World forums? There is a subforum dedicated to trail running and it is very active and encouraging.

There are exercises to work the fascia on the bottom of your foot along with various ankle strengthening exercises for the tendons around that general area. If it's tightened up, I'd also recommend the frozen water bottle to roll on. (Dump out about 5oz of water from two 16.9oz bottles, freeze, then roll your feet under them) Could also be the VFF's - added stress from landing on the forefeet does a number on your feet. You might ease off them or go down in mileage a little bit before slowly increasing back up.

I've been icing and rolling (although not both at the same time, I'll have to try that). I've been stretching the calves and haven't donned my vffs in over a week. In addition, I've only run 4k so far this week. The tightness is mostly gone and I could quite easily run in my normal shoes, but I want to totally recover so that this doesn't keep nagging. I'm not sure if any of my specific remedies have helped (or hurt) or if it's just rest. Thanks for the tips 🙂

I forgot to post from the last two weeks. Cousins visited and they were exhausing. I didnt jog.
This past week I was just lazy and slow. Need more energy. I've been taking Tonalin as a metabolizer. I dont think it helps. Perhaps I need to push myself harder on the runs so as to gain endurance. The slow ponderous pace just makes me sweaty. I'm not losing weight at all.

Also, for reference, I can only sprint at 8 miles per hour. Thats it. Thats my peak.
I am SOOOO out of shape.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit. He's popped in with a huge tally before. Are we going to get IB to extend the miles to 100K when we get to 25K?

Got 9 hilly road miles in this morning. Nice run.
