Other random observations from the day. Sorry for the verbosity, but this was my first one and it was all very interesting :)

- We used some new (to me) timing chip technology: rfid chips taped on to the back of the race number bib. This is great because there's no hassle and you don't have to worry about whether the chip is positioned the right way on your foot or where to attach it if you have unconventional footwear. Mine had a slab of foam on it to hold it away from my body I think, but not all of them had this.

- There were no Africans, the winning time was 2:23 and the leaderboard was basically Canadians. This was not a prestigious race.

- I dropped 3 large deuces before the race (tmi? well this stuff is important on race day :)). If I hadn't gotten up 4 hours before the starting time, I might have ended up in some trouble. I blame last night's pasta sauce.

- I took note of where I passed my BQ time, between 33 and 34k, and shed a tear inside because I'll probably never come close :p

- I'm happy to be able to say that I ran the whole way. I stopped once to refill my bottle with gatorade, but there was no walking and there was none of this "wall" business :)

lol at the deuces kamper. But great job man, sounds like you had a blast and enjoyed the hell out of your first marathon.

Congrats kamper...sub 4 for your first is good stuff. Sounds like you got some decent quality mileage in during the weeks...that's really the key to running a good marathon - as high MPW as your body will allow for. You pushed and never gave up...good job!

And on your comments above - lol. Did you not eat your normal pre-long run meals? Gotta stick with what you trained with...nothing new. And people always ask me why I wake up so damn early before my long runs and races - the exact reason you did lol.

I did eat more or less normally. Well, more pasta than normal, and more bananas and more water. But 3 weeks ago, before my half marathon, I ate the same way and I was worry-free. I've heard that this can be partially due to anxiety, although I thought I was perfectly calm.

Did a quick 4 miles yesterday in another beautiful running morning. Felt very tight afterwards but can't get into the physiotherapist until November 1st. :\

I started running again in July, and totally forgot about this thread. If those miles count:

I got 12 miles in on the trails this morning. 6 miles in the dark with my headlamp on and the other 6 at dawn. It was awesome. Y'all need to try trail running in the dark.

Just got back from the trails, did 5 miles in the dark. And my headlamp started to die in the last mile which made it extra "fun". lol

Did another 6 after dark on the trails tonight. Not nearly as exciting but far more soothing. I love running at night now.

Decided to finally post in this thread. Started running again in July to lose weight. Was injured during September and October so I didn't run for two months and now I'm back at it! Since July 95 total miles.

2 yesterday, none today.

Ate too much candy last night. Tummy ache and bad poo this morning. NEVER AGAIN!
Cant run. Can only sit and nef. I am too old for candy binges, especially given my diet has not been too healthy lately. I got on a kick of good stuff for a couple months, then for no reason started cheating. I think my main problem is having bad stuff at home. Tossed all the junk and bought fruits & veggies from the store on Monday. Now I just need the energy to make and eat breakfast.

wow i didn't know this thread was here. i've been running to the track at the highschool behind me and doing a few laps every other day since Sunday October 23rd.

i'm going to say 7 days total, with a conservative estimate of 3 times around the track running (i run it a full 400m and then walk 1/2 a lap - i have to ease into it so i don't get shinsplints, plus i am out of shape!)... so that's 1.2km each time, x 7 which would be 8.4km, *0.621 for the conversion to miles, and I get ~5.2 miles.

:)

i'll get something to record my running mileage so i don't have to do gradeschool math in your thread :)

Did a short 4 miler yesterday on the local back roads. Last miles before Saturday's 50k trail race. It's supposed to snow, I hope it does. I love running in and on the snow.
