Sony Style stores stop carrying 20GB model. Is this just advanced warning that the 20GB SKU is being pulled? Looks like Sony is shoving the $599 behemoth (over $800 in Europe) down gamers throats. Now Microsoft doesn't even have to worry about price drops in the near future.
Meanwhile, Nintendo boosts its profit forecast for the FOURTH time, WTF!@#@?! They revised sales up an additional $600 million (to $8.1 billion for the fiscal year), with net profits north of $1 billion. This comment on Joystiq said it best:

Sony is probably going to make their 60GB at the 20GB price point and add a 100GB or 80GB SKU.

Call me stupid, but what do all of those numbers mean? For each system there are two numbers, an arrow, and a percentage. Which number is the hardware sales? What's the other number? And what is the percentage?
Nevermind, I'm stupid...
First number is sales.
Second number is difference in sales from previous week (direction indicated by arrow obviously).
Percentage is the percentage of the PREVIOUS sales that the difference represents.
Yep, overall sales were down (which isn't surprising as we get further away from the holidays and into the spring trickle of new software).
The ratio is what's important, because that is what developers will look at when they plan new titles.

Everyone also conveniently forgets how they overwhelmingly crapped on Nintendo in the months leading up to the release. That's partially why I don't take anyone's opinions seriously here, because in the big sense, they don't mean a thing. Those here who blindly love MS and the xbox360 & blindly hate Sony and the PS3... we all know they'll have no trouble forking over the $$ for a PS3 once a top name exclusive is released.

I don't know if there's going to be a clear-cut 'winner' in this generation. By the time one finally begins to emerge it'll be onto the next generation.
The PS3 has taken a lot of negative publicity, but I think it could be a case of a lot of overreacting too early in the product's lifecycle. I think the situation of the PS3 and Vista mirror each other a lot actually. Both have massive existing user-bases from their previous generation product. Both of their previous generation products are very solid, mature platforms that still serve most of their users needs very well. Both have taken a lot of criticism in the media because people aren't migrating in massive numbers over to the new platform yet and that's somehow seen as a mark that the new product is inferior. I think it's mostly that it's simply hard to build that kind of momentum overnight with such a massive user-base who are already very satisfied with the existing product. But over time more people will begin to shift and it'll eventually reach a tipping point. I do think though that the PS3 is in a much more vulnerable position to lose a lot of PS2 customers to the competition than Vista is to losing XP customers to the competition.
The Wii is great (I own one and love it) but I don't see it as really a direct competitor to the other two. It's price point, technology and capabilities are just on a different plane than the other two. It's a fantastic value though and great for the casual gamer or somebody who's never owned a console system before. I can't help but wonder/worry if a company like Apple (or maybe even Google) might make a bid to snatch Nintendo up some time in the next year or so though.
The improvements and success of the Xbox360 are really impressive to me (and also make me eager to see what the next generation Zune might offer.) The tighter integration with PC gamers, the Media Center extender capabilities and the online network as a whole are very impressive. Assuming Microsoft continues to stay ahead of the other two in terms of product lifecycle then they have a chance to make a MAJOR impact at the next generation to become the first ultimate convergence box if they combine Media Center-like DVR functionality with traditional gaming and tighter integration with the Zune and/or whatever portable gaming device Microsoft launches. The fact that Microsoft is getting much more tightly-involved with the cable companies would seem to indicate this is where they are headed.

I'm pretty sure it'll work with AT&T's U-verse service... not sure about Verizon's FIOS. If it does work with FIOS, it'd give me some incentive to buy a 360 and switch to FIOS. It's a given that I will buy a 360 at some point, the only question is when.

My thoughts? Well, I already have a 360 and it's a blast. Why would I want to spend $700 on a system my friends don't have.

There will definitely be a clear cut winner in 2 years time. It's just like the DS/PSP situation; they might be aimed at different demographics, but the bottom line is that there are twice as many DS out there versus PSP (~40 million to 20 million). With Nintendo's price point and innovative control scheme, they are currently outselling the PS3 3:1. Microsoft is holding its own due to the year-long lead it has on the market.
That wasn't the case with the PS2; original PSOne owners flocked to the new system in record numbers. The only difference...the PS3 is commanding twice the launch price. I'll keep driving the point home...the reason people are not flocking to the PS3 is MAINLY because of the price.
Nintendo is pulling in record profits, and the Japanese are too proud a people to be bought out by an American company like Apple or Google. Remember that Microsoft was in an even better position to buy Nintendo in the Xbox era, when Nintendo's dominance in the market was waning and their profits were much lower. If they can turn away the buyout power of Bill Gates when times were bad, they aren't going to look for a suitor now that they're riding the money train.

I believe that Verizon uses MS software as part of their IPTV middleware. They've also sponsored a few events for the 360.
The only question is when will they roll out the software for the 360 to support IPTV (fall update more than likely) and will AT&T or Verizon have IPTV ready for your neighborhood.
