Get both(XBOX360 and PS3) so you don't spend more time going around bashing other system, instead spend more time playing the games :)
I own both system with numerous games, yet I find myself spending more time reading these things than playing the games, I wonder why ???

The Z-button just doesn't feel right and access to it can be hindered at times due to how the R-trigger sticks out on top. The Z-button should have also had a counterpart on the other side, but its like Nintendo said, "Well, Sony already has 4 shoulder buttons, and we do want to appear to be copying anyone, so we'll just put 3 shoulder buttons and look original!!" The d-pad is absurdly small. The right analog stick was pointlessly made into a nub when it should have been just like the left analog stick. Both sticks should have had buttons underneath them like the S and PS2 Dual Shock. IMO, virtually nothing was done right with the Cube controller.... well, they did get the d-pad and left analog stick in the correct positions. That's something Sony can't seem to figure out. Other than that, I hate it. They basically made a controller for Zelda, all other games be damned.

I agree with pretty much the whole rant but your last comment here is spot on. I had never really thought of it that way.

This just proves my point that the Wii doesn't have a single good looking game that isn't made by Nintendo - or that won't be on the 360 or PS3 any way. Frankly, I get enough of my Mario/Zelda fix on my DS - and I never got into Metroid once it went FPS - the only franchise that I still get into that should probably be dead by now is FF. I heard Square Enix could make an exclusive FF title for the Wii along the lines of Crystal Chronicles. Because that worked out so well on the GC.

Square is making a FF:CC for the Wii. I never really dug the GC one though. You really owe it to yourself to play metroid prime (and 2). They are incredible games, and the DS one wasnt even up to the same level. Very few games have actually had me so deeply immersed into them as MP1 and 2.

I consider nearly all RPG's to be nerdy, and they're my favorite genre of video games. Next up is the GTA type games or the GoW / DMC type games which is why I think Heavenly Sword looks ......well, heavenly. So yea, I do like mature games but not simply for the gore, because these are some of the best games bar none to ever see the light of day. Maybe I miss understood you but you obviously didn't read what I've said thus far or you simply chose to have selective reading if you think i fit into either camp exclusively.

There are a few GC RPGs, but most RPG developers have moved onto devices with larger storage formats. If you judge the quality of games based upon how many hours you get out of it, then currently you are not going to find many long games on the Wii. 150 hours is rare for any game, but you will get at least 50 hours out of zelda. And like I said, you only come off as the type I was talking about (I know several), but obviously one cant tell these things for sure over a forum, which is why I said it was an assumption.

Heavenly Sword does look badass.

Ahhh that really sucks. Part of the reason I never wanted a GC was because of that horrid controller. I didn't think it could get worse after N64. I know, people say you get used to it - but I never did. I thought the new Wii classic controller was a huge improvement since it was like an SNES controller with the analog sticks a la PS2.

Not cool.

The GC controller was hit and miss. The Z button made no sense. The button layout was non-traditional, but it did work very well for many games. Perhaps not for street fighter, but I had a pretty hard time dealing with the PS2 controller for soul caliber - it was MUCH easier to hit certain button combos with the GC controllers layout.

But yeah, get metroid prime. If you can't get into that game, I just don't know what to tell you.

I actually like that, because there are always some actions you perform more frequently than others in games. I like being able to remember what button does what by feel and not by position. That's one reason I liked the SNES controller so much - X and Y were concave, A and B were convex. It made it very easy to remember which button did what.

So, yeah, I disagree :)

Well, since this thread is thoroughly derailed I guess there's no harm in responding to this...

It is approximately the same size and shape as the Xbox S controller. The main difference is the Gamecube controller has an open area in the middle. That's what I meant by the same feel.

I don't play fighters, so I can't comment on that... but I've never played a game where I felt the button layout was detrimental, and I've played many games other than Zelda where I thought it was beneficial. But apparently my brain works differently from some people's. I have a hell of a time remembering what button does what on Playstation controllers. Triangle, square, X, O? What the hell is that?! Xbox is easier, because I know A is next to B and X is next to Y. But I really like that I can remember which button does what by feel on the GC. And I like that the most frequently used buttons are the biggest. I think Nintendo recognized with the SNES that in nearly every game, B and Y were the most used buttons, so they turned them into A and B and added that retarded C-pad to the N64 controller.

You're right about the Z button. It doesn't feel right. But it's not often used in my experience. At least not for frequent actions. They screwed up there. It was a remnant from the N64 (where it really was useful) and it was a mistake.

Shoulder buttons - not as good as the Xbox shoulder buttons, but at least they're analog unlike Dualshocker 2.

D-pad - hadn't noticed that it's so small, because I almost never use it.

Analog sticks - buttons underneath wouldn't be so bad. The Xbox controller really has the best analog sticks. I really like the concave top. I don't play games like FPSes where the right analog stick is used frequently, so I guess the nubbiness hasn't been as detrimental to me as to others. I prefer to use the right stick for shooting in Outlaw Golf though... I'm a lot more accurate that way.

I'm glad you agree with me on the location of analog sticks though! That's one reason I've always hated the Playstation controllers. It's not 1995 anymore!

They've gone through several revisions of the PS controller design, yet they haven't fixed the sticks! I just don't understand that. Not only is the left stick in the wrong position, but I feel that both sticks are too loose and I don't like the convex shape or even the feel of the tops of the sticks. Whenever I switch to playing a game on the PS from playing on the XBox I always have a period of adjustment where I tend to control my character/vehicle a bit wildly due to the looseness of the sticks. I have no problem with them keeping the same basic design from one generation to the next, but fix the damn sticks already! At least they did add the analog triggers this time.

Anyway, of the last generation controllers, I personally preferred the S over anything else. My second choice would be the PS2 Dual Shock. The sticks are flawed, but so is the right anlog nub on the Cube controller. I just think the PS2 controller worked better overall across all genres than the Cube controller did. If Sony would swap the d-pad and left analog stick and maybe beef up the size a tiny bit I think they would have a great controller. The 360's controller is near perfect, my only complaint is they they removed the analog face buttons. Not sure why they did that.

If I could find a bundle like This for around say $100, I'd definetely buy it. This one had nearly all the games I want or would want to play on the GC. RE4 I already have on the PS2, otherwise Eternal Darkness and Zelda were my favs that i played - with Metroid being the one I know I should have liked (since Super Metroid is one of all time favs)

I don't really judge them by there length, maybe RPG's I do a little - and their story. The PS2 has recently had some of the best I've ever played. DQ VIII, FF XII, Rogue Galaxy. GoWar was only 10 hours and its about one of my all time fav games too so its not just about length.

I would suggest you pick up Shin Megami Tensei Noctunre. Not a popular game, but a lot of fun with a decent story and relatively lengthy.

Disgaea and Disgaea II are great games if you like more tactical/strategy RPGs.

Thats another thing I love about my PS2 is that I am discovering new games all the time. Recently got Shadow Hearts 1 from a bargin bin, liked it so got 2 and 3. Shin Megami Tensei games are some that I have heard of but haven't got yet. I think there are a few, and I saw Devil Hunter or something to that extent last time that I should have got. Disgaea I'll need to try though, thanks.

Kind of off topic (I think this thread has been that way for a while) but one game that may secure a 360 purchase for me is Mass Effect. We shall have to see, but SW:KoTOR and KoTOR II were 2 of my fav games - namely the first one. They said they were making another for the 360 but I think they decided on Mass Effect instead. Hopefully its as good. And has anyone seen the info on SW: Force Unleashed for the PS3. That game looks to have potential for sure.

Yup, Shadow Hearts is another set of good games. You should also try checking out/renting Valkyrie Profiles 2: Slimeria. That was another one I felt was worth the money.

1. Home & Little Big Planet
2. Free Online
3. 50 GB games
4. Casino Royale
5. HDMI
6. Standard HDD
7. The Wii Fad Will Fade
8. PS3 Has a Major CPU Advantage
9. PS2 still outselling 360
10. Something For Everyone

My opinions on each...

1. Home = crap! and Little Big Planet looks fun...
2. Crap compared to XBox Live
3. Crap... who cares about disc size if the game sucks!
4. Crap-ola!
5. X-Box 360 Elite now has HDMI... so crap here...
6. X-Box Live Marketplace has HD content... crap.
7. Major crap here...
8. Very good point!
9. Elite crap here... how does Ps2 relate to next gen consoles?!
10. Depends on the person... so half crap half cool!

What do you all think?

50 gb games will never happen on the ps3. there is ay ps3's tinsy tiny 256 mb vram can handle textures any larger than now. without larger textures the only thing left is ore content (great, more expensive game) or CG videos.

wii will win

I'm pretty much getting Wii for Zelda, 360 for GTA4 and Halo, and PS3 for MGS4. Never got all three console before but I plan on doing so.

Well, he specifically separated CG. All I can gather is more development costs. But if done well, it can be worth it still. Not to say I don't want to see sony fall flat on it's face, but Nintendo has to maintain it's momentum.

Too soon to tell. But being a hardware junky ,,, I think ps3 will top because of its processing power. Potential untapped while the 360 is a box o' crap interms of graphics and wii is a non-competition. We all agree wii is a fad. i haven't seen anyone play their's more than 3 mins on their own. fun in a group but utter bordom if ur looking for a game session.

I don't see why people argue which is better or will be at top. If i want to play something I go buy it. I don't decide which is better.

Maybe because they're nice enough to wait for you to leave until they spend hours in a non-multiplayer game? When my friends are over we only play Wii Sports or Wii Play. When they leave, I bust out my singleplayer titles.

And do you understand the definition of a fad? The Wii has to go "out of style" and tank before it can be a "fad" otherwise it's actually an "insanely popular console that sold strongly throughout it's life". Gimmick? Yes (the controller). Fad? We can't be sure until sales plummet. And so far, they're holding very VERY steady while the PS3 slumps drastically (20k PS3s sold last week vs 75k Wii in Japan) between software releases.
